12oz bottle with no date

Look is amber-orange, with a fluffy khaki head. Bonus points for being unfiltered. Smell is a wonderful bouquet of citrus hops: orange, grapefruit, pine needles and a warm malt background. Taste is hop forward with grassy pine, orange, and grapefruit being the most prominent. There is muted cracker malt as well, maybe a note of roastedness. Feel is thick and full, with enough carbonation to keep it crisp.

The definition of a solid AIPA - great hoppy flavor with good availability and a decent price. Highly recommended.

Crooked Tree pours a hazy golden orange color that bursts with ambers and reds when held to the light. Visibly, there's a thickness here that I love in IPAs from the hops. A wonderful two-finger head that's bright white with a noticeable soapiness.

Pine, orange, lemon and lime all mix together up front with the pine being most dominant. The malt in the back has a slight bready quality with a caramel aroma sitting inside nicely. The IPA tang is definitely there but the whole thing smells well-balanced.

There's a piney bittering hop on the front that carries a slightly sweet character along with it. The hops carry well into the center of the tongue and seem to dominate the hops a bit too much for my liking. A slightly bready character peeks out in the end but is quickly cut short again by powerful bittering hops.

The mouthfeel is a little thing but it's easy drinking. I think the relative thinness compared to other IPAs makes this seem a tad more bitter.

A middle of the road IPA for me. Honestly, anyone can craft a bitter IPA but I think a true master of the style would have provided a slightly stronger malt bill to back things up and create a stronger balance.

Poured from a bottle into a New Belgium snifter. Very hazy dark apricot color with a thin head. Nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Very faint nose with notes of grapefruit and orange.

The beer has a nice, firm mouthfeel and medium body. The flavor is certainly hoppy, but there's a bit of tartness in there as well. I get some toast and marmalade flavors on the front of the palate, then a slight fruity tartness comes in at mid-palate along with the bitterness of the hops. The finish is dry and refreshing and the beer is nice and drinkable. Very little, if any, alcohol presence.

Overall, a nice IPA. I'm not sure how fresh my bottle was as the hops were not quite as assertive as I like. Still, a nice beer on a hot Sunday afternoon.
