one of the classic American india pale ales out there, bringing new twists to a story that's been told a million times. on tap with a whole bunch of other dark horse stuff at j ryans in Syracuse, ny. the pour on this is hazy muted bronze, with minimal white head, rather unimpressive in a pint glass. the nose is great though, real woody and bitter, like its aged in oak, but I don't think it is. lots of citrus to the hop profile as well, lemon and grapefruit, with a pale malt base. the flavor is great, again with the wood and bitterness its got a lot more of an organically derived feel than so many others. the hops profile is nice, lots of zesty citrus in the finish, probably citra hops and some C varietals as well. dank but not overly oily or sappy like some of the west coast ones, more drinkable too, and without the sweetness. there is a definite woody feel to this, not sure what from, but its persistent throughout. clean finishing too for a hazy hoppy beer, with a drinkably medium body and very little residual sugar. and excellent ipa overall.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a dark amber, almost light brown, color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a jagged ring behind.

S- Sweet malt mixed with earthy hops and an apparent booze fume.

T- This is a very malt forward IPA. Toasty and grainy with the moderately bitter hops playing second fiddle. Still, pretty smooth and enjoyable.

M- Oily with medium carbonation and a mostly full body.

O- This is one of the earthiest American IPAs I've ever had. Good but different.
