12oz bottle. Pours an ominous pitch black beer topped with a chocolate colored, tight bubbled, cream head that settles to a worthy lace.

Earthy black patent malts, hints of roasted barley. Not much going on.

Silky smooth, medium to full bodied brew with a very brief oaty character about it. Sharpish twang of watery hop bitterness, prickly carbonation and roasted barley. Robust, with a somewhat Intense roasted character, smoke, burnt blackstrap molasses and chocolate edges. Light flavors of sherri, and an underlying dark fruit sweetness. Faint cola-like flavors. Dry. Lingering roasted flavors carry on for quite sometime, a bit tobacco-like, making this a bit "dirty."

Not much of an Oatmeal Stout and a bit hard to finish. A bit too robust and not as subdued or clean as one might expect. Definitely a bit oxidized, and the linger is not very appealing.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled what appears to be October 10, 2013.

A: Pours very dark appearing black in the glass with a khaki brown head on top. Fairly quick to dissipate it leaves a ring around the edge of the glass. Leaves some spots of lacing on the glass.

S: Very rich aroma that initially permeates of molasses and roasted malt. Giving it a swirl yields a much different aroma which reminds me of a cheese cellar. A bit of smokiness in there as well.

T: Nice flavor going on here, as with the aroma it is quite rich. A healthy dose of roasted malts is complimented by a light smoke flavor. This one is hitting half a year old so its certainly mellow and the flavors have melted together it seems.

M: Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Very easy drinking taking into account the ABV. Certainly isnt hot on the mouthfeel, just warming after it goes dow.

Overall this is a solid offering from Dark Horse and a good start to the holiday stout series. Very robust and rich flavor that proves to be one hell of an oatmeal stout.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pitch black body, with a dense, creamy chocolatey head, recedes to a small ring at the glass edge.

S: Earthy malts dominate and crowd out other aromas, hints of roasted barley and chocolates. One-dimensional

T: Intense roasted malt character, with smoke and burnt molasses. Hints of dark fruits lay underneath. Also, a hint of Coca-cola, maybe? Roasted flavors carry through to the end, with a clear tobacco flavor as well, not a clean stout...and no oatmeal that can be detected.

M: Medium to full bodied. Carbonation is sharp, but light in volume. Silky smooth feel, slight dryness.

O: Label says oatmeal, but doesn't have the character of an oatmeal. The beer looked awesome coming out of the bottle. But, then when you get it into it, it is just too robust, with some very bold aromas and flavors, especially the tobacco character. Nothing is subtle in this brew. Something is off. It isn't terrible, but it isn't really very good either.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Pitch black with a thin lingering tan head
S: This smells nice. Definitely has a milk chocolate/cream thing going on up front then some coffee and malt
T: Initially this matches the nose but just not as intense. As soon as I swallow it however all of the bitter notes of the cocoa and coffee are accentuated and linger for some time on the finish
M: Medium+ body, bitter
O: This would be a nice beer if it wasn't for the bitter finish. It had everything going for it up until then & I would likely be all 4's but the finish is all you remember and rather disappointing
