Working my way through the winter stouts, 3 down 2 to go!

Pour is pitch black like the others in the series. Theres a small caramel head.

A cloyingly sweet smell fills the air around you. It still smells sweet, but theres a coffee roasted malt presence that I really like. The sweet smell that is somewhat reminiscent of brown sugar or sweet cookies.

Its much sweeter than the other oatmeal stouts, yet theres more roasty malt. Burnt coffee, black chocolate, and sweet cream. Its alot like a cappucino stout in ways. Espresso roast beans are first up, then theres a bit of dark chocolate in the middle, and finishes even more bitter. I think the oatmeal gives it a thicker body.

Feels slightly creamy, but overall leaves a nice roasty presence late. reminiscent of dark roasted coffee. Best Oatmeal Stout that I've had.

A: Pours tick brown. Looks like liquid chocolate.
S: Smells like an oatmeal raisin cookie! Also hints of chocolate and subtle alcohol come through.
T: Oatmeal taste really comes trough but a sour alcohol takes over too quickly. Gross lingering bitterness.
M: Sits alright for a stout but certainly not anything to brag about. Lingering bitterness and sourness as mentioned before.

Overall I was very exited by how it looked and smelled, but it didn't come through where it counted. Certainly not a bad beer but nothing too spectacular either.

I had this Oatmeal Stout in a nonic pint. Thank you Geneseohawk!

Appearance- The foam is dense and cola colored with a smooth lid. No lace is left as it falls to a film. The body is opaque, but has a dark brown tinge to it. Maybe minimal highlights, but hard to tell.

Smell- Only a touch of oatmeal after a couple sniffs, mainly just dark malts and a little bit of roast dominate this nose. A bit of molasses and even dark fruits are buried in there too, gives a slight sweetness to the nose.

Taste- Very roasty from the get go, it's almost like I'm drinking a coffee stout! Then the molasses mingle with the slightly acidic oatmeal. The finish adds dark fruit and some black malts, a little anise. The finish goes a little over board on the roast when considering all the subtle flavors packed into this one.

Mouth feel- The creaminess is nice and makes for an easy drink. The stout feels a little thin on the tongue, and is pretty dry.

Overall- I appreciate the multitude and subtlety of the flavors, but the roast is overdone. I also would prefer it if the nose was stronger in conveying all the subtleties. And the mouth feel could stand to be a bit thicker. Otherwise, this stout is good, and is one I would have again.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Pours pitch black with a pillowy, creamy brown head. Retention is great, and fluffy clumps of lacing form rings down the glass.

S: Layered chocolate: baker's chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, brownie, and fudge sauce. Plum and raspberry esters. Starchy oats envelope all of this. Very pleasing nose.

T: Black raspberry and prune with a molasses backing on the attack. Deep espresso tastes and starchy oats kick in mid-palate. Touch of cola underneath. Rich tastes of dark chocolate, hot fudge sauce, and brownie come through later. Very slight nutty/woody tastes. Underlying hints of citric and earthy hops. Blissfully long finish of layered chocolate flavors, starchy oat, and a hint of smoke.

M: Medium bodied, but very fluffy, full, and creamy in the mouth with a slight oily/chewy texture. Moderate carbonation. Great mouthfeel.

O: Bravo, encore! I love a good oatmeal stout, and this one is right up there with the best of the style. Near perfection. A little over-the-top with the roasted malts, but that's right up my alley. I really wish I had bought more than just a single bottle.

black with a small, tan head that dissipates quickly and doesn't leave much lace. nose is roast, chocolate, maybe some dark fruit and... oatmeal? i usually don't actually detect oatmeal in oatmeal stouts, but here i do for sure. taste is a good balance of all of the above, but just lacks something for me. maybe has too much of something. alcohol presence and oat? body is full. a bit of bitter from the roasty malt. warm booze finish. overall, a decent oatmeal stout, but i think a bit too big for my liking and needing some fine tuning to be very good.

Poured into a shaker pint, beer is black with almost no head, thin tan bubbles, minimal lacing, minimal carbonation.

Aroma is mildly roasty, wet, mildly sweet.

Beer is medium in body and relatively sweet, not cloying though, nice finish, mildly bitter with the roast, a decent beer but probably not a repeat.
