A-almost black with minimal chestnut highlights. Almost no head, just a small layer of tan lace

S-smell is full of rich roasted malts, coffee, with molasses and brown sugar. Not picking up on much oatmeal in the smell.

T-taste is heavy on the roasted malts and has a bitter black coffee taste as well. The oatmeal gives a mellowness to the beer which is a nice balance to the deep roasted malt.

M-full body, light to medium amount of carbonation, very smooth

Overall I liked this beer a lot. I didn't detect any oatmeal in the smell but found it more in the taste. I would have it again.

On the pour it was straight used motor oil. It has my attention already.

The smell was very malty with chocolate standing out the most. I picked up coffee and oatmeal as well but chocolate just seemed to be at the front.

I enjoyed the taste and thought that it was a pleasant blend of malts, chocolate, coffee and carbonation.

The mouth feel was perfect and represented an oatmeal stout very well.

Overall I like it well enough to buy it again. It was much better than I thought it would be based on some of the reviews I've read.

Side note: My bottle has the same configuration as the bottle pictured here but does have some additional graphics added to the label. There is a "star" behind the dark horse insignia. Updated version?

Pours a dark black color and is quite thick while pouring into my glass. A small mocha head. Carb unk.
Aroma is robust malts richly roasted.
Taste is as well roasted and robust.
Weights heavily on the palette. There is some chalkiness in the body, but overall is smooth and velvetty and quite filling.
A good beer but perhaps one dimensional in taste.

Served in a flared pokal at Bliss.

Found some notation on a page reminding me of this beer at a tasting a little while ago. It pays to keep notes. This stuff pours a straight obsidian topped by a finger of tan foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, toasted oats, light coffee, and light chocolate powder. The taste brings in more of the same, with the coffee and roasted malts raising a bit of bitterness for the sake of it. The body is a straight medium, with a light moderate carbonation, a generally smooth feel and a kinda dry finish. Overall, a solid oatmeal stout, if a bit on the bitter side for me. Good times.

Poured from the bottle into a large snifter. No noticeable dating on the bottle.

A very dark cocoa brown nice and creamy looking head that slowly falls, only makes about a finger in size. Some real nice legs and scattered leopard like lacing. Body color is mostly dark walnut brown/black with just a hint of red. No noticeable carbonation, and manages to keep a decent collar, this looks pretty nice.

Small malting roast, and slight char. A little weak, kind of ordinary, not too bad, pleasant enough certainly.

A bit wet bodied with a very dry and embery char roast feeling. Very fleeting roast and a good burnt aroma. Highly wet texture throughout that doesn't give much for even such a high abv. Ashen cigarette quality on the finish.

Overall not really that exciting, kind of a one dimensional roast burnt stout with not much depth to it. Very wet too. I would probably pass it up, the brewery has certainly made better.

Dark Horse One Oatmeal Stout Ale
12 oz brown bottle
Served in a 20 oz tulip glass

Pours a jet black, opaque in appearance. A khaki colored head forms on top leaving fluffy trails of sticky lacings.

Distinct whiffs of chocolate and coffee.

Big flavors of dark chocolate, more specifically Hershey's chocolate syrup. Dark roasted coffee notes, possibly espresso. There is also a sugary sweetness to the sip. The finish features a hoppy snap bite, but rather subtle overall.

A: Pours a deep dark black color with a thick 2 finger tane foam head that has decent retention. Small amounts of lacing.

S: There is some nice amount of roasted coffee and milk chocolate. There is also a decent amount of fresh tobacco and some vanilla.

T: Starts off a little tannic almost with some leather and tobacco. In the middle there is some oatmeal, milk chocolate and chocolate. Finishes with more tobacco and leather.

M: A nice medium to full bodied beer that leaves a slightly bitter tannic leather taste on the palate. Quite dry.

O: A decent overall oatmeal stout. Was suprised by the amount of leather and tobacco present. Would like to try this on cask.
