Ok the aroma is the only thing off for me. This beer when you dissect its flavor profile is very clean, definitive and balanced. The barrel aging flavor is so crisp, its truly an amazing beer. The stout backbone from Plead the Fifth is there, creamy as usual and the added BB just puts this at an elite level. This is a beer to seek out as its incredibly well made and balanced. Just a masterpiece, the only downfall is the aroma is weak which is weird because the taste is pronounced and amazing!

Bottom Line: Legendary brew!

12oz gold-waxed bottle from the '13 bottling, poured into a Short's glass. Thanks Sam (theSamKuehn) for this bottle.

A- Pours a pitch black with a thin yet thick and creamy mocha head that recedes to a flat top. Subtle carbonation but nice consistency.

S- Dark chocolate, integrated bourbon, light roast, subtle vanilla/coconut, light figs, and some light integrated oak. Nice balance, all the flavors complement each other very well, fairly complex.

T- Dark chocolate with a hint of bitterness, lightly roasty espresso, very well integrated bourbon that adds a nice vanilla/coconut sweetness to the base, nice chocolaty oak finish with a touch of bitterness and booze. Nice balance, great use of bourbon barrels to add to the flavors of an already great base beer.

M- Silky smooth, creamy, fairly thick bodied, subtle carbonation perfect for the style, very little alcohol burn, just about perfect for a barrel-aged stout in my book.

O- I've had multiple vintages of BB Pt5 and it's among my favorite barrel-aged stouts. The base beer Pt5 is already a great beer and the barrels add a nice integrated presence adding to the complexity and flavor. From my experience I prefer this beer fresh as it's still incredibly drinkable and hasn't lost any of it's flavors. If you do want to age it a couple years it will still hold up with the best of them, except maybe lose a little bit of the base beer flavor.

Review #500....

Wow... started on this site in may of 2013 and probably had a total of 50 beers craft and big brew before starting my journey into craft... number 500 is a good one...

Thanks Jas45678.... poured from bottle into Teku glass... split with a friend to give hime an opportunity to try a rare brew ..

Standard looking barrel aged stout. Black brown with a thin mocha colored head, not to watery, not like pouring oil. Nice ring left around, thin skin, sparse lacing and some legs as its swirlled around.

Smell was soft bourbon, chocolate, fudge, chocolate covered espresso bean, slight vanilla and toast, nice tobacco and dark fruits thrown in..

Taste was coffee fudge in the front, with a roast and malt taste coming thru with slight tobacco and vanilla. Bourbon is so sweet and delisious but its dialed back. Usually thats the first thing I pick up but this one is nice and subdued and plays a back up tole like it should. Slight toffee of butterscotch with a nice sweet finish and bitterness to compliment.

Very nice feel from the brew. Not too heavy, not too sticky but definitely can call this one a barrel aged stout all day. Very light carnonation standard finish.

Overall I had high expectations for this brew and it didn't disappoint. I kind of knew it would be damn good and it was. The base beer was great and they complimented it with a good barrel addition that didn't take away but stood out on its own. Very pleased with this brew and glad I have more.

Really glad to finally get my hands on this one. Thanks, Tyler!

A: Pours a thick, viscous black with a thin mocha colored head that disappears into the body pretty quickly. Light on the lace, but it seems like the beer is just too heavy for it.

S: This isn't the most potent smelling barrel aged beer out there, but there is a ton going on in here. Upfront, you're met with rich dark chocolate, coconut and espresso. Beyond that, you get some toffee, marzipan, chocolate covered cherry and bourbon. Fantastic.

T: Dark chocolate with a bourbon bite right off the bat. Then settles into some roasted malt, espresso, toffee, light barrel char, and fudge. Finishes with some milk chocolate and a good dash of bourbon. A ton of aggressive flavors in here, but none of them really take charge, which is nice. Instead, they all meld together, held intact by a velvety and just a touch slick mouthfeel. Really well executed.
