Pours jet black with no head and a thin dark brown ring. Not all that appealing. Nose is light but contains some nice elements of hazelnut, vanilla, sweet cream, and roasted malt. I don’t catch any coffee or chocolate oddly enough.

Tastes light bodied, fruity sweet with a metallic front, and ultra mild oatmeal tangy finish. Mild lactic quality that gives way to more sweetness and fruit as it warms. Body mellows as the minute carbonation settles. Becomes very drinkable around 55 degrees or so. Again, nice roasted malts, plenty of vanilla/hazelnut spice, but not much in the way of coffee or chocolate. I don’t mind that though. This is a nice beer. The body is perfect as is the balance. Smooth, creamy, and delightful.

Ultra drinkable.

On tap the Oak Cafe. Pours black. BLACK. Huge, pillowing, deep-tan head - one of the deepest tan heads I've ever seen. Good lace throughout the top half of the brew. Aroma is packed with lots of dark coffee; bitter, black, pure, and dense. Roasted malts and hints of sweetness in the distance. Taste hits with some of that bitter coffee up front, followed by underlines of bitter chocolate and raw cocoa beans. A generic sweetness arises from most coffee and especially chocolate flavors, but the raw bitterness from those two items in this beer balance things very well. Roasty and toasty from the mid-point onward, some smoked flavors join the party; toasted vanilla, oak, burnt wood chips, burnt nuts. Nice combo of coffee, cocoa, and smoked woodiness on the lingering aftertaste. Medium-heavy body, slightly creamy with a medium amount of carbonation.

Wasn't expecting much from this but it's pretty damn good. The smoked flavors in the middle are subtle, but add a whole other element to the brew, other than just being a generic milk stout. Very tasty.

Enjoyed on-tap at Stub and Herbs in Minneapolis, MN. This beer pours black with a nice tan head. The aroma is reminiscent of burnt sugar and light cream. Light to medium bodied mouthfeel. The flavor is rich, dark roasted malt that go down very smooth.

A - Pours black with three+ fingers of creamy brown head that has very good retention.

S - Combination of sweet and roasted earthy malts. Relatively simple, but good. A bit of smoke and coffee as well.

T - Roasted malts come through more in the taste than the smell. Also, some sweet malt and a very faint tartness. The roasted character may be a bit too much for a cream stout, but taste is good overall.

M - Not quite as creamy as I would like. Maybe over carbonated and a touch thin for the style.

O - Not my favorite of the DH stout series, but still a good one overall.

Apparently they don’t date these puppies! No dating. Pitch chocolate brown with a bit of caramel head in tight form that mainly was a thin ring and a tiny dusting just in the center. Deep, dark, and rich aroma. Thick and heavily scented of coffee, chocolate and hops. Creamy smooth feeling, it just glides along your tongue... schweet. Carbonation is just barely present in the background. Wonderful flavors, deep and dark, roasty and lovely. Black strong coffee, vanilla bean, bittersweet chocolate, hoppiness, caramel malts. Such good flavors and feeling in this. Nice one for the lovers of ports and stouts, as it has a lot to give to you.

Pours a pitch black color with an extremely dark, milk chocolate head that fizzles away to a ring around the glass. Smells of much roastiness, some lactose, bittersweet chocolate....Taste has sweet malts and lactose up front and goes into a chocolatey flavor which then morphs into a very roasty and milky flavor that grips the tongue for a good while...very lasting roast. Moderate carbonation fights through the creamy textured body. Very tasty but by the end of the pint I prefer to move on as the flavor becomes a bit cloying.

Pours a very dark black with little tan head and little retention. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, and roasted sweet malts. Taste is on the sweet side with chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits being the primary components. Very creamy mouthfeel. Not the most drinkable cream stout from Michigan, but a very solid beer.

12 oz bottle pours a very dark black body with a small khaki head that quickly falls away. Just a spot or two of patchy lace. Aroma has waves of milk and dark chocolates with just a hint of dark roast. Smooth and creamy body with low carbonation. Taste has a ton of chocolate. Some coffee bitterness from the dark roast and a mild lactic note. A pretty good cream stout.

Appearance: 1/3 inch head, opaque, black in color

Smell: bosco, roasted malt, and cream

Taste: dark chocolate, roasted malt, small bit of dark coffee, with sugar and cream at the end.

Mouthfeel: heavy body, slightly sweet start--bitter middle--with a slightly sweet end and a bitter aftertaste--this beer really flips between sweet and bitter, medium carbonation

Drinkability: My second favorite in their line so far. This one is less sweet than most in this category. A sipper but could do a four over a long evening. One I would certainly pick up again.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Black with thin, but foamy, purplish-tan head and some bubbly lacing.

Smell: Very chocolaty and creamy aroma, almost like Cookies & Cream with chocolate syrup. Very light roasted bite, molasses and coffee.

Taste: Much milder, and harsher, than the aroma indicated, but maybe the aroma was a little too much to live up to. Strong roasted malts, with some coffee, molasses and chocolate. However, there is a sweet, creamy undercurrent that helps to balance the roasted bite.

Feel: Moderately low carbonation, very creamy body but slightly chalky, but it really improves as it warms. A little bit warming.

Drinkability: Very smooth and creamy Stout. I had expected a titch more from the aroma, but that is a minor gripe. Better than One, not as good as Tres. Awaiting Fore and The Fifth.

Too Cream Stout opens to a sweet, milky, but still coffee- and ash-laden aroma. The sugars in here are pronounced and varied, featuring heavy whipping cream, caramel, toffee, molasses, milk chocolate, and brown sugar; these are balanced by an undercurrent of ash, tobacco, chocolate malt, and burnt toast crust. There’s also a good bit of nuance added by smidgens of vanilla, roasted pecan, and thick brown breads. Hops add a barely detectable edge of pine resin and grapefruit rind to add a bitter, resinous complexity. As a whole, the nose is very nice, featuring almost everything one could want in a Milk Stout, losing points mainly for strength of aromas, since the initial odors do fade after a few seconds.

On the tongue, the beer opens with a black, ashy, tobacco-and-coffee-laden edge that is reminiscent of campfire smoke and wood ash, and is surprisingly powerful. This is quickly joined by a good bit of sugar, which bring the milky lactose, as well as molasses, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and touches of milk chocolate. Toasted bread crust and rising wheat dough add earthiness, joined by roasted pecans and vanilla. Hops add a bitter pine resin and grapefruit rind edge that sears the tongue and adds a biting, citrusy kick. In subsequent sips the initial black ashy notes do subside somewhat, as if the tastebuds had burned out in their initial onslaught, but are still present in great quantity, and fight the sugars for dominance. The aftertaste is a heavily ash-laden continuation of the main mouthful, with even greater tobacco, coffee, and citrusy pine resin presence as the sugars die off, and the ashy notes linger on the tongue for a very long time. Mouthfeel is medium, and carbonation is medium to medium-high, adding to the burning sensation on the tongue and soft palate.

Overall, this is a very good Milk Stout, featuring a very powerful arrangement of finely assorted flavors that will be sure to please fans of the style. The ashy/coffee notes are perhaps a bit too strong here, the sugars not quite able to keep up, and the beer could have used a bit more ABV to add a greater vanilla-bourbon overtone, as well as a little less carbonation. But even without those changes, this is quite drinkable, and very delicious.

Black throughout and a small dark brown head that eventually leaves no lacing down the glass, surprisingly. The beer looks thick and appropriate.

A complete, rich aroma of roasted malt, espresso, and mild chocolate. There's just a hint of creamy sugar as well, but it's a complement as opposed to a deterrent.

The roast and espresso come through in the flavor as well, along with a touch of lacto and cream. There's a bit of sweetness and an overall moderate bitterness level. This is certainly good, but deteriorates as it warms.

Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. A joy to drink.

For a style I don't particularly care for, this one is fantastic.

12oz bottle into a Sierra Nevada XXX Tulip

A: Pitch black with a thin, short-lived dark brown head. Looks nice, but nothing out of the ordinary.

S: Sweet, roasted malts dominate the nose. Hints of sweet cream and molasses are quite inviting. Very nice.

T: Dark roasted flavors are the centerpiece of this one. There is a nice sweetness that balances the roasted flavors. The sweetness and roastiness battle it out on the palate in a long lingering aftertaste. Very tasty.

M: My only problem with this one is that it is a touch too thin. I still say it is above average for the style, but I like a vey silky mouthfeel on a cream stout and this one is a touch more watery than I prefer.

D: The aftertaste helps carry this one from sip to sip. Very well done.

Pours a pitch black hue, absolutely no light makes it through. Big billowing dark moccha tan head forming thick with sporadic bands of lacing forming on my Sammy Smith impy pint. Aroma has an air of nice smokiness amongst the dark chocolate roasted coffee and creamy milk sugar tones going on. Ideal dark stout that competes as up there with some of the best stout I've had from Michigan, that's pretty huge when comparing to Bell's, and Founder's. Flavor is full of dark roasted malt character, dark coffee creamy hints of milk sugars amongs the acrid dark nearly burnt roasted malt flavor. Very good balanced big cream stout, it does finish a bit sour harsh with creamed coffee notes. Mouthfeel was medium bodied soft carbonation mellow on the palate really worked finish was a bit harsh with acrid roasted dark malts. Drinkability overall was very good, alcohol was extremely well hidden the type of brew that you will put a couple away before realizing the potency. Flavor wise you will want to consume a couple of these brews.

Pours near black and thick looking; like over-used motor oil. Weak head. A layer of dark sediment left on the bottom of the bottle despite a full pour.

Aroma: exceptionally appealing if fairly simple, with more medium roasted grain than expected.

Flavor: Excellent sweet/bitter balance, with the light sweetness overcome by mild bitterness by the finish. Lingering dark roasted malts and black coffee in the aftertaste. A hint of dark chocolate.

A- This beer pours a deep dark black. Lets almost no light shine through when held to the light. The head is almost none, but what is there is a dark brown. leaves a decent lacing, but the head just about disappears.

S- Smells strongly of roasted malts. A light hint of coffee and chocolate. Any hops in here are hardly noticeable.

T- Again the hops don't do much balancing in this beer and thus it seems a bit too sweet and malty for my taste. The coffee flavors are strong in the mouth, but not overpowering but light and enjoyable.

M- Very dry in the after taste. Thick and full bodied to begin with. But there is something that makes it very enjoyable. Maybe it isn't as thick as I thought, thick is good but this isn't too thick, its almost perfect.

D- Very drinkable, this is a tasty beer. Not too much alcohol but more flavor and complexity than your average oatmeal stout, and a bit more enjoyable than some of the other cream stouts I've had.

Had this from a bottle and poured into a tulip and served at cellar temp.

A - Dark, black chocolate that is completely reflective. No matter how I poured it I could not get any head at all and only a few mocha colored bubbles sit on the side.

S - smells a bit metallic and also has a hint of a dark roasted coffee and chocolate coming up from it. Really can't seem to get too much of a nose from this no matter what I try.

T - At first, the taste is bitter chocolate. As it sits in the mouth, I get a bit of an orange peel hops presence and also a toffee sweetness. The ending is rather dry which is a way reminds me of a white wine. This is one stout that has a lot of roasted flavor and that really hangs around in the aftertaste. On the whole, I usually don't care for a roasted flavor but I like that this one leans more towards chocolate and coffee instead of meat. This actually has a good bit of flavor to it as well as everything really pops out of it. The more I drink it, the more I like this and the more it reminds me of a dark, bitter chocolate. The orange aspect also seems to fade away as the beer warms up as well.

MF - A light amount of carbonation and a little bit thin for a stout. I usually like my stouts to be a bit sticky and have some body to this one. This is light bodied but I don't want people to think it is watery because it is not.

D - overall, this is a stout that has a ton of flavor and that is where this beer stands out. However on the whole, I didn't really care for the rest of the beer. It had really no nose which was surprising give all of the flavor in it. The mouthfeel was good but could be a bit thicker. This would be a good stout to have with a big piece of chocolate cake as it has big flavors but it is not heavy at all as you could easily finish the 4 pack of this in no time.

Pours thick. A dark brown head makes an attempt to establish itself, but is gone before I’ve even raised the glass. The body is black as a black hole swallowing all light that enters its grasp. Rich aromas of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavors follow suit with a robust roasted malt that is balanced by a moderate sweetness. Flavors of chocolate and espresso round out the bill. Mild background bitterness adding support as well. Creamy and full bodied mouthfeel with low carbonation. Drying.

Doesn’t seem to have as much of the dark vinous fruit qualities present in many of the richer stouts. Instead it hones in on the interplay between the roasted malt and creamy sweetness, and nails it.

A- This beer has a jet black body with a dark brown bubbly head that fades quickly. This body is too dense to see any carbonation.

S- This beer has a roasted black malt aroma with a dark roasted coffee bean hint. There is a slight smoke note to the malt that comes through when it warms.

T- This beer has a dark bitter black roasted malt flavor with a hint of coffee and a slight note of cream when it is warm. There is a soft chalky hint and a slight astringency and inky note in the finish. The overall taste is pretty dry.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a bit of a watery texture.

D- This beer has a pretty light thin body and the taste is pretty dry for this style.

This is a good-looking stout, decently thick without appearing to be overbearing, a moderate viscosity to it. It has a touch of a red sheen in a very dark brown body. The head, medium brown, forms a sturdy crown roughly a finger tall that sits stubbornly for the duration and leaves a mix of ringing, patching, netting and spotting.
A rich malts backbone provides plenty of roast with a bit of creamy sweetness, some coffee and cocoa particular to a big stout of the dark and dark roast varieties. A whiff of dark fruits eases into the end.
Lots of roast and char manages to avoid astringency. The only thing I'd ask for is a touch more sweetness (there's a little) and a less subtle lactose addition. As such, it's a great stout.
It's thick and rich with a moderate viscosity that gives great body and smoothness without sitting like a brick. There's just the slightest crispness, enough to keep it lively and interesting, and the smoothness pulls even into the roasty finish.

A: Pours a dark brown appearing black in the glass with minimal slightly tan head on top. Just a bit of head remains in the middle while the rest dissipates or fleets to the edges. Some spots of lacing on the glass.

S: Robust roasted malt is the first thing I think of when I take a whiff of this beer. Hints of sweetness such as molasses or toffee. Mild coffee and chocolate. A smokiness comes out more as it warms up.

T: As with the aroma there is loads of malt in the flavor. Big roasty flavor hits you as soon as you take a sip. It lingers well into the aftertaste. The milk stout qualities come through and really smooth things out. Alcohol is well hidden.

M: Smooth and creamy body with low carbonation. Pretty easy drinking especially considering the ABV.

Overall its a very enjoyable beer that is perfect for the winter months. Big roasty quality will leave you wanting to sip this one all night.

Appearance: Pours an inky, completely opaque, pitch-black color with a full finger of chocolate-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very aromatic with lots of rich, earthy, roasted malt, imparting notes of freshly toasted dark bread, dark chocolate, some brown sugar and toffee, a touch of vanilla, a touch of coffee. Very nice!

Taste: Exactly as the aroma. Lots of rich, earthy, roasted malt, imparting notes of freshly toasted dark bread, dark chocolate, some brown sugar and toffee, a touch of vanilla, a touch of coffee. There’s a slight, but pleasant bitterness at the finish, not hoppy, but a little like chicory coffee. Very nice beer.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied to slightly chewy and pretty smooth and creamy. With an ABV of 7.5%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a very nice cream stout. Roasty, slightly sweet, slightly bitter, and very tasty.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass

A: Pitch black with absolutely no light getting through. Thin, deep mocha head.

S: Alternates between the chocolate aromas of roasted malts and vanilla ice cream. Very inviting.

T: Can a beer be delicious and yet underwhelming at the same time? Very little of the malty aroma comes through in the taste, and the vanilla taste is faint and in the finish only. While on the tongue, this could be a warm and weak coke float.

M: Thinner than I'd like for a stout of this ABV. Low carbonation.

D: If I liked this more, it would be excessively drinkable and I would probably get into trouble after three or four because the alcohol doesn't come through in the taste. However, given my issues with this, it's a beer that I wouldn't turn down if given to me at a friend's house but not one that I'd actively search out.

This is about as dark as it gets. Deep chestnut brown head with a wispy head.

Aromas of smoky oak, milk chocolate, spent coffee grounds, scalded milk and alcohol.

Smoky char comes on strong, wet coffee grounds, and bakers chocolate follow. Bitterness overwhelms the malt structure.

On the thin side with scant carbonation. Bakers cocoa essence. Mild lactose sweetness.

Not digging this as I have a sweet tooth and the label does say 'too cream"-not feeling it. Gave it a shot though and I feel I'm a bit generous with the points here.. I guess if you are looking for a less sweet cream stout-this ones for you. It's ok, not great....meh....

A: Pretty much black. Small dark brown head that although not very large ever, sticks around for a long time as a sticky foamy ring.

S: Smell is mellow and fragrant. Marshmellows? Milky lactose for sure, coffee, and many piles of chocolate.

T: Roasty, sweet, fruity, and very chocolately. This is pretty awesome. Nothing mind blowing but very enjoyable.

M: Thick syrupy. Melted chocolate. Smooth, full body.

O: Good stuff.
