Had this at the MBG summer beer fest. You can tell it's derived from Crooked Tree, yet it is sweeter with a definite pear taste in throughout it. Aroma of pear, apples, and cinnamon. Taste of grapefruit pear, and peaches. It definitely tastes like fresh fruit went into this one.

On tap at the Michigan Brewer's Guild Summer Festival 2011.
These IPAs were all just about the same looking. Pale, hazy and yellow-orange. A white head crowns them. Despite having crazy fruits added the color is hardly effected. I didn't really think prickly pear would add much appearance though.
This was awesome. My brother put it best when he said that this beer is "liquid New Mexico". It really does smell very South Western. Some pine, some light citrus, some cat piss, some cactus and agave. It called to mind margaritas, aloe vera and and John Wayne.
Really very interesting and nice. It keeps very in line with the aroma. Very "south west". The cactus is very light and refreshing and really plays up the lighter pine needle flavors from the hops. I wouldn't even mind if this were frozen, poured and poured into a wide glass rimmed in salt. Really hits the spot on a hot day.
Dry, medium bodied, nicely carbonated and very crisp and clean. I'd say this is one is perfectly suited for a hot, arid day.
A really great beer. Super interesting. I'd never heard of any other beer using prickly pear, but it turns out that that fruit, or vegetable or whatever works really well in IPAs.
