Brewed in collaboration with chef Cleetus Friedman.
2015 vintage; drank 11/15/15 @ Fountainhead.
Black/brown appearance.
Minimal dark khaki head; minimal lace.
Marshmallow, rich milk chocolate & burnt caramel notes in the nose.
Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Molasses, root beer & milk chocolate flavors up front; rich vanilla notes on the finish. No booze heat.
Unique; substantial yet easy to quaff. An excellent brew.

Poured into a tulip it has a inch thick beige head and a black body smell of sarsaparilla, cola, vanilla, heavy mint, slight ajax, soy sauce, and some grainy malt. Taste is sarsaparilla, chocolate, slight vanilla, slight mint, black licorice, and a small amount of roasted malt. It has a moderate to full mouth feel and a full body. Really disappointing, the mint flavor is off putting (but overall not that bad of a flavor) and weird smells are worse.

On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.
Pours a dark glossy black with absolutely no head or lacing. Kind of disappointing.
Smells slightly cloying, with some vanilla beat, sarsaparilla (root beer) and sugar.
This one doesn't feel like a stout, where the BA version did, which is weird. Tons of artificial root beer flavor, along with some fake, slightly cloying vanilla flavor. Not much else going on, feels like more like alcoholic root beer than an actual root beer stout. Disappointing.
Thin bodied, way too thin for a stout. Slightly watery. Not all that drinkable due to the cloying nature of this one. Low carbonation.
It's incredible how disappointing this one was versus the bourbon barrel-aged version. Night and day here.
