I picked up a bottle of Dark Horse's Scary Jesus Rockstar last week at The Lager Mill. This one seems a little weird, so I better give it a try, lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.
A- The label looks ok, it's a little cheesy, but it does go well with the name and it is eye catching. It poured a murky orange color that took on more of a brighter orange color when held to the light with a half a fingers worth of off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it didn't leave any lacing behind. This was an Ok looking beer, but I wish the head and lacing were better.
S- The aroma starts off with a lower amount of medium sweetness with the chamomile being the first to show up and it imparts a spicy chamomile like aroma that is a little incense like. Up next comes the apricot which impart a nice fresh apricot juice like aroma followed by a creamy aroma and some pale malt and light hoppy aromas. This beer has a nice aroma, but I wish the chamomile was toned down just a little.
T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but a little more intense and it starts off with a lower amount of medium sweetness with the chamomile still being the first to show up and it's the aspect that sticks out the most in this beer. Up next comes the apricot which imparts some nice apricot juice aspects that are slightly lighter than they were in the aroma. Up next comes the pale ale base which is a little on the light side, but it still imparts some typical Pale Ale flavors. On the finish there's a pretty low amount of medium bitterness with a weird chamomile aftertaste that's a little Nag Champa like. This beer tastes ok, but I don't feel like apricot and Chamomile work that well together.
M- Not the smoothest, a little crisp, medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice and it works well with this beer.
Overall I thought this beer was just ok and I thought it was an average at best example of the style, I first thought that chamomile and apricots where a weird combo and Dark Horse proved me right, it wasn't offensive tasting, but I wouldn't say it was that pleasant. This beer didn't have good drinkability, one is more than enough for me. What I like the most about this beer is the mouthfeel and aroma, to me those where the highlights of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is the chamomile, it just seemed out of place and a little too overpowering. I wouldn't buy this beer again, it's not something I feel the need to revisit. I don't recommend it, but if your a big fan of chamomile it might be worth a try. All in all I wasn't impressed with this beer, the combo just didn't work out well. It's one of my least favorite beers from Dark Horse and it's average at best for the style. Better luck next time guys, this one isn't for me.

Bottled 8/35/15; drank 9/21/15 @ the Yarchives.
Murky orange/red rust appearance.
A rough pour yielded a huge khaki head; a curtain of lace.
Fresh flowers, mild cinnamon & faint citrus notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Fresh flowers & mild cinnamon flavors up front; a faint bite on the lips. Interesting & very drinkable; I'd have another.

Thanks to JodiB for this one. 12oz can poured into 14oz teku. Poured a very hazy (could barely see my fingers through it) brown-gold color with over an inch of white head that had good retention and decent lacing.
There was certainly apricot in the nose and what I'm assuming was the chamomile (I've never had chamomile tea, so I'm kinda guessing here). Couldn't really get any malt or grain coming from under the two lead players. On the tongue, pretty similar, but some base malts did poke through. The fruit and spice still dominated though.
The body was smooth and medium, with a semi-sweet finish. Drinkability was fine, but I likely wouldn't have two in a row. Overall, a pleasant enough brew, worth trying if you see it.

Drinking out of a beer stein, so I cant give much notes on look. Appears to be a hazy amber color. Smell and taste both are dominated by the chamomile. I guess I can find apricot if I search for it. The beer is creamy and easy drinking with little hop flavor to be found. This is a bit dissapointing for a pale ale. Not a bad beer if you like creamy and smooth. I like crisp, dank and bitter. Luckily my fiancée will drink the rest of the six pack as she loves it. Worth a try if you're curious about chamomile in a beer.
