Had on tap tonight at Sticks and Stones Greensboro.Poured into a standard pint glass a bright looking burnt orange with a great looking one finger sticky white head, great clarity and even better defination to the head.Cascades are aroma hops but they don't really hit ya here, yeah there is citrus and resiny element but it's not quite as big as I was lookin for.Flavors of a lightly sweet biscuit base with a not so aggressive citric hop profile, now don't get me wrong it has nice hop flavors but to me they are a little subdued in nature. All in all it's pretty good, something drink all night, other than that it's just above average,I hate saying that with this being one of my favorite home state breweries.

Thanks to Chris for this one. The pour is literally identical to the FF version of this beer; no surprise there as the malt bill is probably the exact same. The head on the Cascade version seems to be a little more lively, but it still recedes to a skin pretty quickly and still shows no traces of lacing on the glass at all.

Leafy and lightly floral hops crowd the aroma; pretty fresh and zesty. Very mild fruity character in the aroma, maybe even more so than the Falconers Flight version. Should I be surprised by that? A light juiciness is a nice byproduct of the citric character, a good way to cut through some of the strong florals. The grapefruits, leaves, and caramel malts work pretty well together here.

And again, like the other versions, the caramel malt is pretty prominent and gives a strong, sweetness that works allows for a nice balance through and through. I've gotta say, I'm already liking the way this one smells a bit more than the Falconers Flight version, so I can only hope that it treats my taste buds just as well.

After the first sip, I get a good dose of some peppery spice, leaves, grass, and very light florals. At first, the citrus seems muted, but it comes in stronger and stronger with each successive sip. Bitter citrus pith, zesty orange peels, and light grapefruit rind. Bitterness hits just moments in and remains moderately heavy for the duration of the sip.

Needless to say, even the citrus characteristics are playing towards the bitter side rather than the sweet and juicy side, but there's nothing wrong with that - the lump caramel malts keep everything in check and provide a solid backbone of balance to bring it all together. Medium bodied, seems a little more carbonated than the FF Dekoorc Eert for a more crisp mouth feel.

I liked this one better than the FF variant, but not quite as much as the Citra variant that was enjoyed after. Cascade hops are very versatile, and they can certainly stand well on their own. I wasn't expecting so much citrus, but there was a good amount of bitter peel and pith notes. Drinkable and enjoyable overall.

Vertical tasting of the four crooked trees. Dark red caramel color for the beer. Strong citrus flavor in the smell. Smooth citrus flavor while drinking. Very easy to drink. Of the four this was my favorite beer in the tasting. Quite tasty. Interesting series for sure.

The single hop Cascade variation of Crooked Tree looks similar to the other releases. It’s a very hazy, orange stained gold color. The orange tint becomes more apparent with a little light behind it. An off-white head covers it. It rises to just under a finger in height and sticks around for a while. Lacing was sticky and moderate. Good stuff.

The nose is quite good. It smells nicely balanced. The malt base smells a little sweet, toasted and biscuity. It’s not a bad base. There might be some light caramel, but it doesn’t overwhelm. The hops are very citric. It smells primarily like grapefruit. There might be some pine, as well. With each passing whiff, the hops seem to come through stronger. I like that. Alcohol is there, but isn’t strong. I like it. The hops might be a little one-dimensional, but I’m not complaining.

In trying these Crooked Tree variations, I’ve learned something – it’s tough to screw up Crooked Tree. The flavor here kicks off with a nice mix of toasted malts and biscuity flavors. There might be a little sweet caramel in the house, but it’s subtle and secondary. It’s a nice, sturdy base. The hop flavor is good. It is a nice, strong grapefruit flavor that delivers a bitter kick. There are some piney flavors in the background, but it’s mostly grapefruit. Tastes good! Alcohol is masked well and isn’t all that noticeable. Finishes a little dry with a bitter grapefruit flavor and a touch of biscuit. Good stuff.

The body is medium. It feels nice and smooth. Carbonation is light and soft. Just like the other Crooked Tree varieties, this is an easy-drinking American IPA. Good stuff.

The Cascade variety of Crooked Tree is a nice twist on the original recipe. I’ve actually enjoyed all of them. This one isn’t quite as good as the original recipe or the Citra release, but it’s still impressive. This has been a fun series. Good stuff, Dark Horse!
