First visit to Dark Horse. Meet hoppymeal (Derek), his wife Erica, and two kids here to have a few brews, dinner, and complete our trade (Bell's Eccentric for Kuhnhenn 4th Dementia & Homebrews).
Atmosphere: Showed up at 6pm on Thursday 1/4/07. There were about 15 to 20 people at the bar and at various tables. Seemed like most were locals. I can see this placed getting packed real quick. The bar had about 8 or so bar stools and there were about 10 or so other tables situated around the bar. Walls and ceiling were covered with cool ass Mug Club mugs.
Quality: I had two pints of Thirsty Trout Porter and a 9" Chicken Little pizza. Both were very good. This was one of the smoothest and tastiest porters I've had, and the pizza was up there with the best of them. Derek, Erica, and kids ordered a BBQ chicken pizza, a pepperoni pizza and sometype of sub sandwich that looked quite good.
Service: For how crowded they were, the service was good. Our drinks and food came in a timely manner.
Selection: Good selection of beers and excellent selection of subs and pizzas. From what I recall, they had Raspberry Ale, Amber, Crooked Tree, One Oatmeal, Tres Blueberry, Four Smoked Stout, Black Bier, Thirst Trout Porter, and maybe a few others. I wished they had a few pub exclusives on tap, since I can get all the above (except Porter) from the local store. The menu had about 8 appetizers, 15 -20 subs and pizzas, and 5 salads.
Food: The Chicken Little pizza I had was very good. The crust and topping were very good. The sub's also looked good.
Value: For 2 pints of Porter and the Pizza, my bill was $16, which is very reasonable considering the quality of the food and beer.
Overall: I'm glad we chose to meet here for our trade. I've been wanting to come here for some time now. I'm glad I finally made it. I will definitely be back again in the future. If you are in the area or driving down I-94, it is worth the 5 minute detour off the freeway.
....and Thanks again to Derek (hoppymeal) for the Eccentric's.
