My first attempt at this beer was skunked. Luckily, I gave it a second try and hopefully this was a genuine impression of what the beer was supposed to be. To be honest, it wasn't much better. It smelled sweet, but it didn't really smell like anything. It had a starchy character with very little flavour. The only note I could discern was that of figs, which made it difficult to enjoy after half of a glass. It was far too sweet for a beer that is supposed to be refreshing and easy to drink in quantity. I've had sweeter beers, but with no other discernible flavour, this beer was cloyingly sweet. And that fig flavour just built up as I drank. At the time, the only alternative was Budweiser, so I continued to drink the Hite, figuring it was probably the lesser of the two evils, but not by much. Too much sugar in this beer. (830 characters)

Appearance - White soapy 2 finger head that quickly drops to paper thinness. Clear light gold body with plenty of visible carbonation.

Smell - Sweet yeasty corn and a slight maltiness.

Taste - Strong bite. Tons of astringency that would cut well through strong asian spiced foods. Bit of a metallic aftertaste with miniscule hints of bitter lime peel.

Mouthfeel - Medium full body.

Overall - I'll try pairing this with some asian food. Does not go well as a session beer. Reminds me of an astringent Miller High Life. (521 characters)

A: A pale yellow straw in color. Brilliantly crystal clear, with a nice sized fluffy white head on top, which quickly starts to recede.

S: Some light malt aroma, and perhaps a touch of skunk. Slightly sweet, no hop aromas, and perhaps a touch of butter.

T: Light, crisp and slightly sweet. There is almost a light biscuit flavor in the finish, with a touch of honey wheat flavor. All and all, really not a bad beer. Perhaps a little vegetable flavor in this...

M: Very light in body, and high in carbonation. The carbonation seems actually a touch too high for the style. The finish is fairly clean.

D: Decent, but forgettable. Nice and clean, with lightly sweet malt flavors, but overall something I probably wouldn't buy it again. Still better than a lot of the other brews available in this style. (807 characters)

Poured into a stange glass. Freshness date is stamped on the label... glad to see an import from Korea doing this.

Pours crystal clear and light, the color of hay. The head amounts to a little over a finger at its best and is fluffy and white, receding quickly but retaining a layer on the surface.

Smells of very pale malts, a touch of sulfur and some noble hops. Smells grassy in its sweetness. There might be some corn in the nose but I can't be sure. Light but in aroma but acceptable.

From the flavor I would guess that there are some adjuncts to the malt, which is present and tastes light, toasty, very pale and good. The hops are not very aromatic but they do provide the bittnerness needed to balance the grains. Overall this still lands on the sweeter side of this style.

Mouthfeel is light and highly carbonated, but there is still a bit of body here, probably mostly from carbonation but still there is something. Drinkability is better than average for this style.

Conclusion: I don't know what all the hate is for on this site for this beer, I mean a D+ average? This isn't trying to be an Imperial Pilsner. The label says cool and fresh, which when served chilled this beer is. Some Euro pale lagers are certainly not fresh tasting, but this is closer. I would drink this as an alternative to Heineken any day... (1,332 characters)

Served on tap at Korean restaurant.

Pretty bland beer by itself. Works fairly well with spicy korean food.

A - Weak light golden color reminiscent of Bud Light or other generic US light beers

S - Nothing doing, faint hint of pilsner aroma

T - Pretty weak here as well, tastes like watered-down pilsener

M - Thin and flimsy in the mouth with so-so carbonation

D - Main virtue is it pairs well with korean food, however prefer OB in that respect. Not a beer one should ever seek out. (488 characters)

I worked in South Korea for a few weeks. I had to try at least one Korean beer, and because of my ticking nature I had to take some notes :)

A: Pours a dull, but translucent light yellow color. A tiny white film forms, but fades with no lace what so ever.
S: Overcooked vegetables, adjunct like rice, sulfur, and metal. Pretty offensive to the senses.
T: It does nor get much better. That same overcooked vegetables, sulfur and metal flavor that is in the nose. Sour with some light pale malts. This is bad.
M/D: Thin, watery, week. I could barley finish the bottle. Really bad on this front.

I had to try some just because I was there. Really bad though. I was not expecting much, but US macros are much better than this no matter what kind of beers you like. All I can say is that this was another tick. (807 characters)

Clear, pale yellow with a skim of white foam that instantly shrinks to nothing. Green apple skin, corn and cereal grains with some dusky, herbal hop notes in the aroma. Light and grainy with a distinct cheap, adjunct beer quality. Sweet and corny with a touch of washed out hop bittering. Light and highly carbonated. Why is this beer exported..it really isn't worthy, I've had American malt liquors that blow this crap import away. No thanks. (443 characters)

Not as bad as I was led to believe, but still bottom-rung stuff. The can that I had ice-cold was far better than my second, which was a little warmer. There is something to be said for numbing your taste buds when drinking this crud.

American marketers have made big-sellers out of crap beer like Heineken and Corona. Let's see them pitch this to the masses. (359 characters)

A: Pours a pale yellow with no real head.

S: Has a generic stale beer aroma.

F: It had a light body with lots of carbonation.

D: Had with a Korean meal. It makes OB & Cass look pretty good. (257 characters)

A - Yellow color, no serious head retention. You've seen this beer 1000 times before.

S - I don't have the strongest sense of smell, but I don't think a bloodhound could pick up any interesting aromas from this beer.

T - Like spoiled carbonated water.

M - As light of a lager as I've ever tasted.

D - If you are in Korea and don't feel like spending too much money to get your drink on then I recommend this beer. If not, stay away. (437 characters)

Had a Tin Can Tavern & Grille - Columbia, MO

A - Poured out a clear, straw yellow color with millions of bubbles of carbonation. It had a small, white, bubbly head that receded quickly and left no lace.

S - It smelled of grains. Really there wasn't much else for an aroma.

T - It tasted of grains and was a little watery. There was an unpleasant aftertaste.

M - Very thin and weak. A light bodied lager.

D - I tried this so I could say I've had a beer from South Korea. That's about all I'll ever say about it though. (523 characters)

Befitting to its Asian origins, Hite's bubble population is profuse and densely packed. Honesty, I doubt even the world's finest champagnes have such a copious level of those tiny, close-knit balloons floating around. With such large numbers, it's a surprise to see there's no foam percolating over this shimmering, straw coloured body.

I can't help but feel the label's a little presumptuous: "Cool and Fresh!" it boasts. The 'cool' part is ensured by a small picture of a bottle opener that turns blue when the beer is prescriptively cold enough - as if I couldn't determine that on my own. As for 'fresh', last I checked the freight ride from South Korea to south-central Canada isn't exactly speedy...

In a bouquet that makes me second guess the colour of the bottle - wait, this isn't green or clear? - the musty-sweet smell of sprouting grains and cheap sparkling wine hits the nose with the force of a karate-chop. It's the smell of a bottle that sat all day in the sun and heat and it couldn't be much less unappetizing.

Whereas the nose is unappealing the taste is simply plain and trite. Despite the disappointment I've suffered for hoping for a moderately tasteful lager, I cannot fault the beer for being heroically ordinary and flavorless. Water is unarguably the world's most popular beverage and if you want to sell more beer, it makes sense to try and emulate it.

Rice seems to generally make a less offensive adjunct because it doesn't result in the same level of astringency or cloying-sweetness that corn syrup does. In fact, Hite is a relatively clean and painless drinking beer; despite being uninteresting, nothing else about it makes it all that objectionable (at least not as far as beers of this milieus are concerned).

Many Asian countries have substantial history and artisanal proficiency at fermenting beverages made from rice and barley - this surely does not speak to that. The rice in this malted beverage was used because it was more economical and would result in a less distinctive beer. This may be Korea's number one selling beer but let us not overlook that that statement is a reflection of popularity, not of quality. (2,166 characters)

taste is bubbly, hops are skunked but present and bitter nicely, highly adjunct-ed, apple cidery flavor, bottle is prob. kinda old

mouthfeel is of high carbonation, slightly bitter, thin, eh

overall i wouldn't really choose it out to drink again, maybe if i was in the country (475 characters)

A clear pale yellow with tonnes of of big bubbles floating up to a fast falling bone white head that left no lace

S mild grassy hops with a sour sweetness that's nothing special

T not much better if anything worse some adjuncts and sweet grains and some sour rice cakes

M its thin and I see more carbonation then I feel

D beers that taste bad are hard to like, I was wishing I bought a smaller bottle

Bottle from LCBO: Light gold modest white head with fair retention, light lacing of the glass. Aroma is mainstrean commercial euro-lager, light noble hop grassiness, light sulphur must from lager yeast and light grainy tones. Light body, smooth with some real malt and hop ambiance finishes fast clean and sharp. For a light lager this is better than most commercial mega-brewed Canadian lights...at least it's all gristed malt, no malt extracts no corn or rice and has a modicum of flavor. Drinkable but absolutely undistinguished. (532 characters)

Had a few bottles leftover from sake bombs.

Has that Coors Light "turns blue when it's cold" thing but instead of the mighty Rockies a heart shaped bottle opener changes color. That's cool, I guess.

Orange-yellow with a thin insta-vanish head. Pretty typical American adjunct lager appearance...sigh, what have we done?

Smells like ass and Cascades. Tastes like ass and Cascades. And by ass I mean rice adjuncts. Just as bathroom spray doesn't kill ass, it only blends with it, all the orange citrus hops in the world won't cover a bad beer.

Good for sake bombs and not terrible by itself. (594 characters)

Drank this while in Beijing at a Korean restaurant. Pours a pale yellow, with little head retention. There is a bit of barley and malt flavoring that shines through on the beer. It has a slight alcohol taste, not really watery. It was fairly good to drink with the food I was eating. (283 characters)

Alright, it's my first beer review, and fairly reviewing a beer of this low quality is quite a challenge, but I've tried to be as fair as I could.

Appearance - The carbonation is very high, very champagne like. The head retention is very poor, which makes me think of cola soda foam. The color is very light in the yellow-ish tones, almost transparent. The beer is crystal clear.

Smell - The smell is difficult to describe. It smells very alcoholic, and it smells like aluminium. This couldn't come from where it was conditioned, since I poured it from a glass bottle. There is a smell very far away and discrete which reminds me of a very faint earthy hop. But this is very far away.

Taste - The taste is as the smell. Very aluminum-ish, the hops are non-existent, and it's very alcoholic considering the alcohol percentage. The beer is absolutely unbalanced. The alcohol is too much overpowering.

Mouthfeel - The beer is very much over carbonated, yet watery. It's a very thing mouthfeel, yet aggressive.

Drinkability - It's definitely not appealing and I wouldn't drink another one. Definitely not. (1,108 characters)

Poured into a mug.

A: Brilliant straw, with great clarity. A soapy head of huge bubbles comes and goes in a flash. Active carbonation bubbles are the biggest I've seen this side of a bottle of soda. Leaves no lace.

S: Yes. Really not much going on here. There's a mild combo of dry rice and malt, and that's it.

T: It has taste too. It's not offensive as much as weak. Straw like out front, watery in the middle and clean in the finish. There's nothing terrible going on, but nothing all that pleasant either.

M: The super light body feels like soda water.

D: It's light, low ABV and tasteless if cold. Actually, this beer is almost tasteless warm too. Certainly easy drinking, if nothing else. Pretty much a mid-pack adjunct lager. (737 characters)

Pours pale gold with a large but rapidly fading head.
Aroma is lacking: some grainy malt and possibly grassy hops? A hint of white wine.
Quite sweet upon tasting and amazingly light on. Sweet bready malt is the only discernible flavour. Practically no bitterness whatsoever. Become cloying after a few sips.
Carbonation is too high. Massively high. Very watery too. Considering the lack in flavour, this is not what you want.
Possibly the most flavourless beer I've had. Even beats Kilkenny in that way. However, no flavour is better than bad flavour! (551 characters)

640ml, weird mirror-world shaped bottle, with an aquamarine and orange colour scheme. Different is good?

This beer pours a clear, pale golden straw colour, with two flabby fingers of weakly foamy, and mostly thin, soapy dirty white head, which leaves some awkward splattered soap scum lace around the glass as it quickly melts away.

It smells of musty, semi-sweet rice patties - all up in Uncle Ben's grill, a bit of grainy pale malt, sudsy detergent, and the hard water to go with it. The taste is mildly skunky stewed rice, a hint of veritable barley malt, a little bit of metallic stoniness, and rather ethereal herbaceous, weedy hops.

The carbonation is thankfully low-key and restrained, the body medium-light in weight, thin, and fairly clammy, cloying, and a bit oily in its prescribed smoothness. It finishes mostly dry, with some burgeoning cooked veggies boding ill for us all, and me in particular.

While I surely don't know everything about the whole "Clean, Crisp and Fresh!" claims on the label, I can proffer my opinion of this average Asian macro lager - it is certainly none of the above, but hardly off-putting by the same measure. Watery, generally inoffensive to your average bear, and good enough, I suppose, for a tick from a nation so preoccupied with that Soju shit. (1,295 characters)

This beer is what it is. A Korean lager. You can criticize it all day long for not being big, malty, hoppy, balanced, or whatever. But the simple fact is that is never what this beer was intended to be.

Pours from bottle with a huge, foamy, carbonated head that quickly reduces to a surface coating. Color is very light straw and is crystal clear. Aroma is very clean and crisp with a good bit of cereal and some light hops showing through. Taste is of very light malts, cereal, and rice. It is quite smooth and actually a bit creamy over the tongue. Very light in weight, actually lighter than some "light" beers I've had, and with high carbonation. Leaves the mouth feeling clean. Drinkability is about one step up from carbonated water.

This is not a great beer, but it serves its purpose, and I can only imagine the vast majority of the demographic that drinks this beer could give a shit less about BA. This is not something I could ever see drinking on a regular basis, but it actually pairs quite well with Korean dishes that exhibit a lot of umami, like bulgogi, kalbi or dol sot, and helps to cleanse the mouth (much in the way pickled ginger does). (1,161 characters)

22oz bottle

Pours a pale golden color and is totally transparent. Has a nice 1/4" head that sticks around for awhile. Not overly carbonated.

Smell is sweet like rice. Thats pretty much it.

Taste is clean and crisp.

Presentation: 12oz can; Dude, it says "naturally fresh water" and "Fresh taste beer" on the can....shit, what did I get myself into?!

Smell: Very clean, light, and crisp; there's not a lot there, but what is is sweet and has a touch of malt

Taste: This is surprising; there's actually a light bit of malt and a decent hop twang; it's not great, but for the style, it's exceptional

Mouthfeel: Light/medium bodied

Drinkability: High

Conclusion: It is what it is, and what it is, is way above typical for the style (516 characters)
