Pours a very foggy orange. Nose is awesome. I took a whiff as I was pouring and was getting character that I only remember ever getting off a muscat. Nice spicy funk that smells like a banana bread. Flavor is a bit sweeter than I would have figured. Still has a good consistency. Nice spice profile. Just seems like a well made, traditional hefeweizen to me. Feel has a good carbonation to it and the liquid is pretty good as well. Like I said. Pretty even and traditional stuff here. Very good in my opinion. Easily drinkable and worth some exploration.

Watered down orange juice color with a small head that does not last long. Very little lacing is left on the glass. One of the most lifeless hefeweizens I have seen. Typical hefe aromas of banana and cloves. A decent dose of the wheat malt as well. The flavor does not suit my tastes that well. Seems a touch sour with too much citrus acidity that to me, is out of place. A little orange juice and vanilla in the finish. Weird. Flavor seems more appropriate in a pale ale than a hefe. The body is a bit thin and undercarbonated. No wonder it looked lifeless. It is not undrinkable and it is certainly interesting. Not like any other hefeweizen I have come across. My bottle lists ABV at 4.6%.

Bottle with many thanks to Phaleslu! Hazy straw, pours a very fizzy and quick lived white head, that leaves just a thin ring. Nose of clove, candy, some banana, bubblegum. Tastes immediately of sweet banana, cloves, thrills gum, peach. Medium bodied, a bit thin on the finish. Very sweet bubblegum aftertaste. Good. Thanks Peter!

A - Pours a clear golden color with a finger of white head that doesn't stick around too long. It would be a great appearance for a pale ale, but nothing like a normal hefeweizen.

S - Wheaty, but almost in an artificial way with a bit of citrus. Not as much smell as most hefeweizens.

T - Lots of banana flavor with a bit of wheat behind it. It almost seems like an amateurish take on a hefeweizen.

M/D - Mouthfeel is good, kind of thick. However, the drinkability is fantastic. This is almost a pale ale meets wheat that is very refreshing and easy to drink. I could see a keg of this in my future when summer comes back around.

This beer tastes almost ciderlike-- tangy, fruity, and a little sweet. There are no banana or clove phenols, the body is thin, and the aftertaste is a little sour. I'm not finding a date, so I don't know if it's fresh or not. I would not buy this beer again, but it seems like other people have had better experiences.

Grabbed one of these on tap ages ago at the Dilly Deli and just found the review.

Appearance: Pours into the pint with a shrot, tight white head that fades to a faint ring quickly. The sunny, golden-yellow liquid is slightly cloudy with good carbonation running throughout.

Smell: The smell is light, but definitely full of sweet, almost sharp yeasty grains and somewhat pungent lemon.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Taste is slightly watery with very light carbonation, bright tartness, cirtusy bitterness and full toasty grains. A slightly yeastiness accompanies a super-sweet orangeade/lemonade character.

Drinkability: Incredibly high. This beer tastes very nice and goes down really smoothly. It would pair well with a lot of different things, and would especially be a great summertime beer.

Bottle received as part of the Little Guy BIF, thanks nlmartin!

This is a beautiful beer, classic Hefe, cloudy pale goldenrod yellow, plenty of sediment. High fluffy head, sticky.

Smell is different, mostly sour green apples and lemon oil, some grain but very lightly.

Taste is predominantly of unripened apples, very tart, dry, and unfortunately not enjoyable at all.

Feel is good, other than the dryness and a huge amount of carbonation, luckily for the drinkability I enjoy Flanders because if I didn't this would have gotten a 1.

Kind of a train wreck.

A: Pours great semi hazy yellow, pillowy head.

S: Typical hefe, some wheat, some citrus

T: yikes, way sour...like wild ale sour. Not what a hefe should be per definition. The sourness/bitterness overshadows everything else.

M: Ultra high carbonation, plus sour aftertaste kills this.

D: None. drain pour.

Poured a nice golden color with a sweet, fruity aroma. Didn't have much head, and the mouthfeel, although well bodied, was pretty flat. The taste was malty and sweet with hints of bananas. Overall a beer I could see enjoying on a hot summer day. Pretty tasty American hefeweizen.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks!).

Poured a medium and slightly cloudy golden color with a smaller sized white head. Aromas on the softer side and consisted of wheat, banana, and spices. Tastes of wheat, spices (stronger than the aroma), banana, and lemons.

Poured into a pint glass.

Pours an extremely hazy golden with sediment throughout. Little to no lasing and head.

Smells of bananas with a hint of vanilla. Slight clove smell as well.

A bit "bitey" for my liking and not a typical hefeweizen in my opinion.

Decent beer from Barrel House, but not my favorite. I think they could do better.

20oz. imperial pint served at the Dilly Deli. Review from notes.

A: Plae golden, great clouding. Good head, retention, and lacing.

S: Sweet tasting with bubblegum. A bit of banana and clove. You know.

T/M: Taste is much the same. There's a bit more sweetness than the nose suggests. Yeast is a bit spicer and adds depth to the banana and clove. Body is medium light with lively carbonation.

D: Very tasty and extremely sessionable. 4% :D

On draft at the Dilly Deli.
Pours a hazy gold in color with a very nice two inches of head on the pour. Smell is huge amounts of clove and some underlying banana. Taste is even more of the clove. Almost too much. Very nice mouthfeel and decent flavor, once you get past the clove. Easy drinker.

Eye: This is truly a Hefeweizen. The body looks full and is very cloudy and unfiltered. Poured into a weizen glass this thing looks awesome. Dark gold at the top and bottom of the glass(where there is more volume of liquid), in the middle(where there is less beer) the color is straw yellow. Pours with a nice thick and creamy head, unfortunately due to either my glass or my growler it has receded to a thick blanket covering the brew, before it receded though it looked great. Just some work on the head/lacing thats it, otherwise, looks great.

Nose: Banana and slight clove abound in this beer. It has a very fresh smell, as it should-straight from the brewery itself, poured not more than 10 minutes ago. Somewhat spicy and earthy aroma as well, though it is more of a feel than an actual aroma-hidden in the background. Hints of apples in there as well-the dry crispness of apples. All three aromas blend and play wonderfully together-crisp/dry apple, banana, clove.

Tongue: Huge wheat flavor in this beer, it is unmistakable. It is the first thing that hits the palate and just about the last to leave. Banana, clove and apple esters play after the wheat has hit the palate adding depth to this beer. The memory and taste of them linger along with the wheat after the brew has been swallowed. Hops are just a tad spicy and are in very small amounts and is quite difficult to discern from the spiciness of the clove, but they are in there(albeit in very small amounts), a bit of a different spiciness if you will. Not much to bitterness in this beer, I think that balance of the wheat malt is pretty much left up to the clove character, it seems to balance the malt sweetness out in its own way.

Edit: Close to the end of the glass I'm even getting a bit of bubblegum flavor here as well. Lots of great phenols coming from this one!

Mouthfeel and Drinkability: Light and refreshing, this is one I could drink all day. This is a damn fine beer. I see no flaws with it and am very pleased with it. This is one to look out for, a great seasonal from a great local brewery here in Cincy. Carbonation is light on the palate, and in my opinion is just right, too much and it would be scrubby, like soda, less and it would just about be flat. I feel that this is perfect. Great body, feel and overall a great beer. Great to session and especially great in this Cincinnati heat.

Into my weizen glass...

A - Solid orange color with some visible carbonation. Smooth offwhite head reluctantly fades to a quarter inch. Thin sheets of lacing.

S - Pungent orangey citrusy sugary sweet fruity smell with some light earthy wheatiness. Hints of blueberries.

T/M - Starts out smooth, a light carbonation bite hits, accompanying sweet fruity flavors and earthy wheatiness with some light pepper.

D - Overall a pretty tasty hefe, and a very good value at $3 for a 22ozer.

Appearance - the first pour is very bubbly, 4 to 5 fingers at the top of the hefe glass. A large fluffy white head that isn't very dense and hence melts at a good clip. Great bead from below. The all-important bottom pour is yet to be added and I'm already past the half-liter fill line. Such is the quandry of getting the 22-ounce bomber into a 16.9-ounce hefe glass. I could squeeze it in but I'll take an early sip just to be safe. The bottom pour goes in and the beer transforms. A few chunks float to the bottom but most of the slurry dispenses evenly, giving off a sunny cast of yellow at the bottom and a darker golden yellow up top. The head has mostly settled to a thin smooth cover, a smattering of lace around the top edge of the glass.

Aroma - starts crackery, a zesty tartness. Light yeast and banana, but I can smell them. Better yeast aroma as the beer settles, obviously much better once fully poured in. Adequate but not a full range of aroma.

Taste - yeasty, crackery, still a bit of lemony tartness but it is pretty-muted. At first the flavor tastes a little diluted and it makes for a bland finish. With some warming and palate conditioning, some complementary spices make their way out and enhance the yeast. Much better 10 swallows in. Decent representation of the banana and yeast.

Mouthfeel - a fine smoothness developed with the bottom pour. I expected that but not to the extent I got. A silky hefe is a fine thing. Very carbonated and gassy but the smoothness helps to level that out, or at least *feel* like its leveled out.

Drinkability - a safe example of a hefe. It's fresh, it's local, I imagine it would be better on tap, but not one I'd seek out.

Nice summer beer to celebrate the end of the season. This was quite a brew, especially the pour – clear amber that just doesn’t give up on generating carbonation and foamy ivory head. Sticky too.

Nice buzz of hefe banana and clove. This move to the quaff nicely, and both are soft and subtle – even a touch of vanilla in the mix. Just a bit cloying, the sweetness builds as one makes their way to mid-bottle. The 4.6% alcohol really makes this a session drinker. Good pile of yeasties on the bottle bottom.

Pours a murky orange color. Highly cloudy, fizzy, no head retention. Smells like a wheat beer with hints of oranges, bananas, and cloves. The taste is bold and fruity at first sip, a lot like over-ripe oranges, but quickly clears way for an exceptionally crisp, clean finish. Mouthfeel is light and crisp, but very fizzy, almost pop-like fizzy.
The drinkability is decent. I have one 22 ouncer that i should finish with no problem, but after that it will be time for something else.

Bomber bottle, w/o freshness nor bottling info offered. I rolled this one on the counter to release the accumulation of yeasty goodness residing on the bottom of the bottle. Pours medium apricot amber and very cloudy. Quickly departing head, morphs down to a thin film and leaves minor lacing. Nose is super floral and with a sweet/sugary note. Bananas, cloves, yeasty goodness, you know the deal. lacking a bit of depth, mouthfeel wise in the mid section. Medium flavor hefe, certaintly worth a try, but lacks the depth of flavor and complexity of the all stars of the style.
