This was one of two beers brewed for the "Love Local, Buy Local" event on 9/6/14.
It's on the darker side for a Saison, to be sure, verging nearly into amber territory. The head is small but dense, though it loosens up and fades away within a few minutes. Spotting is left in the beer's wake.
It's a little spicy going in, both the first sniff and the first sip. Lots of earth and must, a bit of pepper, and a raw sort of heat come out all at once. It becomes easier with time to distinguish the unique ginger element from the overall spicy/biting element. Carrot isn't easy to distinguish, though I'm sure it lightens things up in its own way. There is a very slight and mild vegetal note, which I presume at the very least could be due to the carrot but may not be.
The body is a firm medium and carbonation spritzes at the front. It eases down, but as it does the body seems to thin a little. It's not as dry as I'd like my Saison to be, though it counters with a pleasant kind of juiciness.
