Appearance - As mentioned before, this beer was lacking of any head. Despite this discouraging fact, it was a wonderful deep red color. Very clear and clean looking. Although there was no initial head, faint lacing was left on the glass.

Smell - The spices are up front. A pleasant wintery smell, although slightly weak.

Taste - Now this was a somewhat complex brew. The first thing noticed is the spiciness, reminding me of Samuel Adams Winter Lager. However this spiced taste is not near as bold as the Sam, making this a more drinkable brew in my opinion. The initial cinnamon spicy taste is quickly replaced by the sweetness. If I can remember correctly, Maumee Bay claims 6.65 lbs of sugar in this brew, and I can believe it. The sweetness is a nice compliment to the spiciness, and is quickly followed by the alcohol. The 7.1% abv comes through in a pleasant way. It had a slightly grassy aftertaste, which threw me for a curve and left me wanting another sip.

Drinkability - I think it is a very good beer for sipping at the bar, especially in the wintertime. The spicy flavor up front makes it interesting, but it is not too overpowering. The sequence of flavors you experience in a single drink compliment each other very well and you'll want a second pint.

Appearance: The appearance of this beer was not very impressive. There was no head whatsoever. I think this mostly has to do with an improper pour. The color was a brownish/red and was very clear.

Smell: Spicy and sweet. Malts took the forefront in the aroma of the dubbel with some spices chiming in.

Taste: The taste of this brew was superb. First you tast spices, next you taste a very sweet flavor from the malt and candy sugar, and finally you get a little bit of the alcohol, but not much.

Mouthfeel: Mouthfeel is fairly rich, not too sticky but good. A nice amount of carbonation and thickness.

A very drinkable beer. The only complaint I have about it is the sweetness. It starts to get overbearing sometimes.
