I took home a growler after trying a pint at the brew pub. Instead of cutting and pasting my on-tap review and noting the differences, i'll say read my on-tap review and note the following differences:

Basically this remains the same with two exceptions: firstly, the head isn't as strong after a growler pour, so the appearance isn't quite as good and secondly, it tends to flatten just slightly so there's not as much life to it. The differences don't detract in my mind by more than half a point each. There wouldn't really even be a difference if a growler fill didn't seem to make such an immediate change.

Tried this on tap during my first visit to the brewpub. Seemed like a reasonable stop on my way through Ohio. This was one of the more interesting options on the taplist. Pours medium brown with lighter highlights, very little head. Aroma is roasted coffee with a nuttiness from the hazelnut. Very reminiscient of hazelnut coffee. The taste is really where things fell apart for me. It reminds me of a cup of coffee that's been ruined by adding too much hazelnut coffeemate. It has the same artificial sweetness you find in coffeemate and torani syrups. Bitter and maybe even a little bit souring at the end. The body is a touch on the thick side for a porter while the drinkability suffers from the artificial sweetness. Not a very balanced or well crafted beer in my opinion. I was pretty shocked to see it had an A overall through 5 reviews.

This is an extremely well crafted beer, I was highly impressed by this one, even my friend who doesn't care too much for porter and stout was into it. Sweet and rich enough to make a good dessert beer, but easily quaffable enough to be the main course.

Pours a deep dark brown with only the slightest bit of transparency around the edges of the pint with a thin light tan head than left a crown and swirls throught the pint. Nose is gorgeous, roasted coffee, hazelnut (now there's a shocker!) and a certain chocolate/cocoa dry sweetness. Taste is explosive, hazelnut dominating with other flavors that were present in the nose taking a backseat, reminds me of nutella, nutty, chocolaty, sweet and rich. A very full body and nice solid mouthfeel add up to a great porter. Way to go Maumee! This one is a winner! Very good balance, malty for sure, but bitter enough to balance things out quite well I'd say.

Slàinte!

Appearance: This beer is a beaut. It is very dark brown with a small head with some decent lacing.

Smell: Did you read the name of this beer? Hazelnut Porter. Well, that is what was in the smell. Hazelnut. Very subtle at first but then once you tasted it you could really smell it. Wonderful!

Taste: The taste is like dinking a hazelnut coffee in the morning. There is a lot of bitterness of dark chocolate and coffee grounds. The hazelnut offsets this and makes it a well rounded brew.

Mouthfeel: It feels like black gold going down, well maybe not but it feels like a porter and more. Maytbe a little thick for the style but I like it.

A great beer however very rich and flavorful and difficult to drink if you had a few.

Appearance - dark like a porter should be. Brownish black appearance with a very slight head. Very slight lacing on the glass.

Smell - A very nutty smell, as the name implies. A pleasant roasted coffee bean aroma comes through as well.

Taste - Wow, now that sure is Hazelnut! This was the first nutty beer that I have tried, and its boldness took me by surprise. The taste is a great compliment to the smell, and a hazelnut aftertaste, much like a hazelnut coffee would have. It is very smooth big flavor, easy to drink.

Mouthfeel - The overall mouthfeel was smooth. The feel of it was more reminiscent of a stout than a porter, which typically has a little more bite. It goes down very easy and creamy.

Drinkability - A pretty drinkable brew. The hazelnut aftertaste lingers a bit too long for my taste, although it is not a foul aftertaste at all. Definitely an interesting beer.

If you are a fan of nutty coffees or nutty beers, then this is right up your alley!
