This beer is taking the place of Glass City Pale Ale as part of MBBC's recent improvements in the quality of their beers. Having tried it last night, I'm all for it.
The color is a bright gold with an initial light haze as it settles and the consistent activity begun with a very nice cascade effect off the pour develops a fluffy, tall white head that retains itself well and leaves lacing consistently all the way down.
Right off the nose this is a hoppy pale ale along the lines of GL Burning River or Half Acre's Daisy Cutter, but this beer's got its own style. I smell a mix of freshly cut grass and citrus notes with a twinge of tropical fruits and lemon zest balanced by ample supporting malts that compliment without distracting, and plenty potent at that. It's also clean, without much residual grains to distract.
This beer's got a crisp, clean flavor offering grassy notes as well as fresh tangerine juice with just a nip of fresh mint. A touch of lemon zest lingers underneath the raw juicy hops. This is a nice pale ale by any standard.
The carbonation is moderate, and this beer is crisp and smooth in mouthfeel, adding some depth to a body on the lighter side of medium.
Glass City is dead. Long Live Summit Street.
