Notes/Commercial Description:
Our brewers took inspiration from a classic Witbier recipe that employs the use of unmalted white wheat and coriander spices and doubled the grain bill for a double strength take on a Belgian classic. We took it one step further by adding puree and zest of 240lbs of Blood Oranges which the beer an orange/amber hue and loads of citrus flavor and aroma. In addition we added a touch of grains of paradise which lends even more fruit layers and spice character. The use of Saaz hop lends a balanced bitterness and delicate hop aroma.

It was brewed as part of our proud sponsorship of the Glass City Beerfest which benefits ARC and Northwest Ohio Hemophilia Society.

10 kegs were brewed exclusively for the 2012 Glass City Beer Fest and the remainder sold on tap at the brewery until it sowas gone.

This beer is a thick orange color, essentially translucent, with a fluffy white crown that shows some staying power as well as stick, leaving ample lacing as it drops.
There's plenty of orange in here, as a good mix of both pulp and rind (zest) are evident and, especially in the flavor, plenty of juiciness. A lightly bitter punch of hops that might be considered generous for a typical wit but don't throw things off add balance and complexity underneath a backbone of pale wheat (I believe white wheat was used). This beer is complex and big, but a touch of ethanol kick in just at the end.
The mouthfeel, particularly for a wit, is big. It's thick but still remains crisp. The mouthfeel is the most interesting aspect of this take on a witbier, as it's huge compared to the light, soft feel common to the style but it doesn't seem overblown. Just the fact that it's thick without being too heavy and the crisp bite never dies is impressive, as well as smoothness that's filling without being excessively heavy.
