This is by far one of my favorite brew-pubs anywhere in the midwest. Most brew-pubs tend to have more of a focus on the restaurant side of the business, brewing only a few common styles of beer such as a pale, a red, a stout, and a light. Indeed, Maumee Bay Brewing has these styles, plus many more styles such as a wonderful Kolsch, a delicious Vanilla Bean Stout, a delicate IPA, and more. The Glass City Pale and the Fallen Timbers Red are absolutely excellent examples of their respective styles. Next to the Maumee Brewing Company is bar called Mutz. I can see why some reviewers and older people would not care for this type of bar. However, I think that this is one of the best bars in all of Toledo. Its always fun with a lively crowd with a couple of pool tables, a shuffle board table, and a play station 2. There are plenty of peanuts and the only $5 pitchers on Thursdays, quite a bargain for quality craft brew. Yes, they do serve Bud Light, etc. but that helps keep the clientelle well balanced and a fun atmosphere.

The brewpub/restaurant has a lot character. It is set in the second floor an old 19th Century hotel that also houses several other businesses, including a steakhouse, pastery shop, pub, restaurant and brewery. Each of these are very distinctive. It also contains a wonderful collection of beer memorabilia in the Toledo Brewing Hall of Fame & Museum. The glassed-in copper colored mash tun and kettle are the defining features of the pub. The Tap Room (bar) on the main floor (second floor) also has a mixed old world new world character with brick walls and new wood tables and chairs both raised and regular height.. The wood bar is located on the far wall with a large selection of spirits and booze in front of a large mirrored wall. They serve only Maumee Bay beers with 11 taps flowing, some regular, others seasonal.
Most of the beers are very good. For food, the specialty of the house is pizza, baked in a wood fired oven. The menu is pretty full featured and diverse, since it is adjoined by at least 2 resturants. I have sampled many items from the menu and found the food to be good but not great. The prices are very reasonable and I highly recommend this place for a good drinking and dining experience.
