750 ml bottle.

A: Dark brown pour, fleeting tan head. Little to no lace.

S: Bourbon, bourbon, and more bourbon. Lots of vanilla notes in this one. Very little of the base beer aroma comes through.

T: Did I say bourbon? Bourbon. Vanilla. A little bit of oak. Alcohol. Pecans? Nicely hopped finish. A little coffee.

M: Medium, nicely carbonated, a little sticky.

D: Decent, but BBC has a tendency to overpower the base beer whenever they do a bourbon barrel release. Perhaps the barrels are a little too new and have a little too much raw bourbon left in them. This one was decent, but only because the base beer had enough oomph to stand up to the bourbon flavor.

Also known now as their Barrell Aged Stout on the labeled bottle.

Very smooth beer for the abv.

I was hesitant with this one as the last bbc beer I tried(smoked porter) was actually spoiled and nearly made me puke(truly turned beer - my first in years).

This stout was really good. Has a lot of Milk Stout qualities.

Pours with a small head, near black hue.

Nose is vanilla and Alcohol.

Flavor is the same.... lots of milk stout sugars going on here with huge vanilla notes and heat fromt he alchohol... nost so much taste of the alcohol... it's very impressive in that way... this beer tastes like a 6 percenter - so be careful.

very smooth... very low carb... so slight fig notes and cherry notes, but mainly the vanilla backbone going on here... and that light carb makes this feel like a guinness with good flavor going down... and we all know guinness has no flavor... but on mouthfeel this has that similar Airy feel...

I will revisit this...

a very interesting beer because of the vanilla, the sweetness, the heat, and the mouthfeel make for an interesting and drinkable combination....

solid. not great... but solid.

this is a great little fall/winter stout that's both drinkable and strong... the aging has really mellowed this beer out...

Opaque brown-black with a thinnish khaki foam that disappears to a ring and leaves no lace. Smell is lightly chocolate, coffee, vanilla and faint cherry. Taste is roasted malt, milk chocolate and coffee, there are additional layers of vanilla, cherry...faint bourbon elements. Mouthfeel is thinnish with moderate carbonation. Decent stout. Has elements of a milk stout and the bourbon barrel aging is noticeable.

Special thanks to gibb for this generous extra. Poured a pitch black color into a portsmouth brewery balloon glass. An espresso foam colored head finger head rises after a vigorous pour.

Smell is wood, and more wood with coffee chocolate and vanilla taking the back seat I have never smelled something like this before with the wood character so prominent.

Taste is pretty good theres a few things going on here. You get all of the aforementioned smells hitting as flavors in various points its kind of hard to pin down but theres a vanilla and wood aftertaste that is really nice with some chocolate and faded coffee at the front.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly light I was expecting and almost hoping for something thicker and more viscous.

However because of the heavy wood smell the wood is the first thing and the last thing you always get when you take a sip. Not that its bad but I could see it getting old after a few.

Served on draft at 11th Street Taproom in Virginia Beach, VA, 16oz glass $8.75.

Pours pitch black with a small, one finger sized tan head. The glass was frozen so the head falls and doesnt stay very long. I hate frozen glasses. When will people learn?

Aroma is sweet and oaky with plenty of vanilla, and notes of bourbon. Malty and a sweet sort of sourness is accompanied by a small amount of roastiness.

Decent flavor profile. Heavy on the vanilla with a heavy oaky-bourbon flavor right behind that. The sweetness lingers but there is a touch of hop bitterness. No hop flavor. Quite nice flavor overall. However, it seems the tap lines from this establishment arent very clean because that dirty tap line taste is here. I actually had a sample of this beer at Capital Ale House yesterday and it tasted much, much better; lots cleaner.

OVerall, this is a decent beer. Cleaner lines would do this one well. I have a bottle of this as well so lets hope the bottle tastes better.

Served in a stone imperial Russian stout glass

A. nice thick tan head. Dark black. Leaves a nice lacing on the glass.

N. Nice roasted malt, a bit softer I suppose somewhat like an oatmeal stout. A hint of oak vs just a strong bourbon aroma. A lot of stouts are a bit lacking in aroma. This beer has a really strong aroma which is really nice.

At room temp it's starting to have a nice coffee nose. Interesting how the blending of flavors works here. Of course this beer is brewed with coffee so this should be there.

t. Starting this beer it's way too cold, which was my mistake. At first not much going on here, nice finish, but I'll have to let this warm a few minutes.

OK warmer and drinkable. This reminds me a bit of an oatmeal stout (I somewhat doubt there is any oatmeal in it). It's got that almost bready malt flavor mixed with a good bit of burnt malt. This gives it a nice hint of chocolate along with an oak finish. I'm a bit disappointed as I wanted to taste some bourbon in this, but instead they went with a really mellow bourbon/oak flavor. Nothing is over powering, perhaps the most balanced bourbon aged beer I've had. I want to rank this poorly for not being what I had hoped, but truth be told this just isn't an imperial stout at least at heart and darn if it isn't tasty. I'd like to score it a 4.25 on taste, but 4 will have to do.

Now room temp. A general coffee flavor and nose is coming into play. Odd that a beer brewed with coffee didn't come out with it faster, but again this beer is amazingly well blended. They wanted a balanced brew and they have done it.

M. Silky and smooth. Not sure oddly enough what the bite is, could be alcohol (but at 7.5% it isn't all that stout) or some hops or some mix, but good stuff over all. I like my stouts a touch thicker, but that isn't what they were going for here.

D. Not a session beer but you could certainly have a few over the course of the night.

Since these weights don't always reflect me views. This is a solid beer and by far the best I've had from the BBC. I'm not sure how many bottles are out there, but if you see it I'd certainly give it a try.
