Appearance: Clear burnt-amber body. Generous vanilla milkshake head has superb retention and thick creamy lace. Pretty.
Smell: Crystal malt, bready, earthty-mustiness, an appropriate old/staleness, smokey/peaty notes. Whiff of floral hop.
Taste: Smokey, peaty, grainy, semi-dry malt to start. Top is medium with a grassy, nutty, burnt huskiness. Finish dries with bitter hop and burned/woodiness. Long semi-dry grain aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, somewhat thin for the style. Carbonation is crisp, tight and complementary.
Drinkability: A crisper, drier, lighter scottish ale. Very drinkable, but my preference is for the full-blown versions, which, I admit, are less drinkable for me.
