Dark amber and clear, with a medium, off-white frothy head. Lazy carbonation. Head dies down by a quarter of a glass, and lace is weak.
Sweet malty scent with fruity caramel tones. Almost a scotch smell without the alcohol.
Malty and hearty, with plenty of prominent butterscotch. In fact, now that I taste it, that was in the smell too. Quite sweet with little hop at all, yet it never gets cloying. Catching some peat and caramel
Surprisingly smooth for such a sweet ale without hops wheat, carbonation, spices, or anything else to cut it. Guess that's a great trait of a well-crafted Scottish ale. Medium bodied, and goes down nicely for the style.
I don't mind one or two of the 16.9 oz bottles, but that's enough for me. I could sip on this with some vanilla ice cream though, or heck - make a butterscotch float!
