Served from tap in a shaker pint glass at Duke of Perth.

Bachelor Party-Palooza 2014 (Part 1) believes that when in a Scottish-style pub, do as the Scots do and drink up some Belhaven, beginning with the lager. It pours a clear brass topped by a half-finger of dirty white foam. The nose comprises sweet biscuit, light grass, light flowers, and hard water. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a light vein of cream and a slight, barely perceptible twinge of fruitiness, but this last piece may just be my imagination. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a nice lager, one that set the stage nicely for the coming meal and further drinks.

On-tap at The Pub Beavercreek, Beavercreek, OH

A: The beer is crystal clear straw yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bready malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of bready malts and bits of sweet malts. No hops are detectable but there are just enough to prevent this from being too sweet.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and rather clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and has a nice and clean mouthfeel. Its low alcohol content makes it sessionable.

On draft at the Chip Shop, Brooklyn.

Poured a dark straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured light doughy malts, grassy hop and some diacytl.

The taste consisted of a soft round malt and balancing grassy hop. A bit smoky as well.

The mouthfeel was on the softer side of the style and a touch creamy.

Overall a decent lager. A not more body than most.

Found in a Moscow grocery store, the brown half liter bottle sports silver foil around the neck and a gold and white label featuring a lovely shot of Loch Voil in Balquidder. Barley is listed as a separate ingredient from malt, but all conform to the purity law. Best before 10/31/06, I opened it on 4/30/06.

Pours a clear pale gold under a 1.5 finger white head that lingers just a bit before fading to collar, leaving no lace. The nose has a certain cabbage tinge to it, along with some sweet malt. The mouth is very light and moderately prickly. Very sweet malty taste here, almost sugary. I'm picking up hints of corn, too. The hops are very subdued, and a bit off - more of that cabbage impression. The aftertaste is mostly corn malt. I get the impression that this beer isn't trying to do to much. It succeeds.

A: Pours a clear straw yellow color. A one finger white head forms, but recedes in a second. Very light lace is left behind.
S: Light hops up front. Light citrus, lemon, and grass. Toasted malt, grain, and cereal. Again very light.
T: Follows the nose. Citrus and grassy hops. Toasted malt that is slightly sweet. Cereal and grain.
M/D: A light body that is effervescent. Thin and watery. Easy to drink. I could put a few away with ease.

A pretty standard version of the style. From what I have tried recently, Belhaven continues to make relatively drab and generic beers IMO. They make much better beers. Considering what they are capable of, very disappointing.

A standard and clean Lager, similar to English and Irish pub ales similar to harp and the like. A bright straw colored beer shows a lot of active carbonation, fair head, good retention and lacing. A mix of grain and malt decorate the nose along with a strong floral-flowery hop presence. Flavors favor a crisp and clean malt taste with the hop flavors riding just behind. Bitterness supports the malts without dominating them. Pilsner malts and lager yeast promote sulfur compounds of match-stick and vegital qualities and allow for the only real flaws deep into the finish and aftertaste as the beer warms. A decent little beer that doesn't offend.

Poured a tawny gold with a creamy one inch head and moderate lacing.

Smells of earthy buttery biscuit and noble hops.

Taste is slightly sweet honey biscuit and earthy hops. There is a mineral like taste in the finish. Very good and appetizing.

Medium bodied and very drinkable. This would be a good session beer. Pub Friendly.

04/24/13 On tap. This time around there was little life in the glass. Taste was good, but lacked effervescence, which is big deal in a lager.

July 2013 - On tap. Very nice. Substantial body. Combined w/well balanced flavor. Quite reasonable for the spring/fall 'tween seasons but maybe a bit much for a true summer quaff. That being said this is worth a try to broaden the horizons.

Front label must be the same in Scotland as Russia, but my 500ml bottle doesn't have a freshness date or a full list of ingredients. It has the standard euro lager straw colour and at least appears well carbonated. Smells like a sweet take on a pilsner: again not much of a surprise there.

It is very well carbonated, so much so that I can barely taste it. As the carbonation gives way I notice this brew certainly isn't as sweet as the nose suggested. Instead there is a vaguely smoky, grainy flavour to it which I quite like. This is nowhere near bold enough for me to revisit which paradoxically means it is rather drinkable.
