Belhaven Scottish Stout is solid black with a tiny bit of red around the edges and a thick tan head that holds for a while before becoming a collar.
smells of roasted malt, slightly sour milk, and some sweetness.
tastes creamy and sweet with a dry bitter cocoa and chalky charred malt profile. perfect example of a stout. rounded, strong roasted taste, evenly bitter, and satisfying. there is also a slight buttery note similar to what i've tasted in other Belhaven beers.
creamy mouthfeel, ending dry
a delightful stout that i've been looking at for a while but never picking up. im glad i did, though.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a ruby sheen when held up to the light and a small, creamy head. Smells of roasted, smoked, slightly caramelly malt and hints of chocolate and licorice. Taste is a good balance of roasted, slightly smoked and caramelly malt, with some chocolate, licorice, earthy hops and skunk also coming through, Finishes with a light bitterness and some smoked malt, chocolate and skunk lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I have no idea who had the bright idea to put a Stout in a clear bottle, but there is some distinct skunkiness to this that really ruins the beer for me, especially in conjunction with the meaty smoke flavor. I can quite appreciate some smoked malts if they have that campfire quality to them, but dislike the meaty flavor displayed here. It's also a little too sweet and caramelly for my personal taste, while I would have wished for a more roasted, bitter quality here. It's drinkable enough, but certainly not something that I would buy again.

Black in color with no light penetration. There’s an inch of densely packed creamy off white on top. Heavy lacing on the glass. The aroma is of caramel and milk chocolate. I’m tasting caramel and dark malt. The mouth is exceptionally smooth and creamy.

I tried this at Green St. Grill in Bensenville, IL whilst there for my son's hockey tournament. It poured an opaque dark with off white head that did not leave any lace. The scent had faint smoke and earth. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with smoke accents and peat. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

500 ml clear bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 7%. Black colour, large tan head. Roasty aroma with notes of coffee, hints of dark chocolate and woodwork, also an initial hint of fruity acidity. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. The flavour is medium sweet with notes of dark malts, coffee, chocolate and molasses. Some fruitiness too, but the bitterness is quite moderate. Pretty good stuff.

Had it on tap at Deacon Bradys in Ottawa. Poured a silky blackish with a touch of red. Was served in a Scottish thistle glass that showcased the cascade wonderfully.
A great drinker.... Not heavy at all. I would recommend it to a friend and that's my highest honor.

That's rather good, aroma is muted and it pours without out head, but then it screams wonderful when you taste it, thick, glorious dark malty burnt with a lovely bitterness that sits well. If anything it's too sweet, but it's a cracker!
