This is my go to place in the La Crosse area for liquor stores. Gotta love grocery stores that sell good beer. This is what Minnesota needs right now! First off, the prices at Woodman's are better than any of the Festival Foods or small liquor stores in the La Crosse/Onalaska area. $6.99 for New Glarus sixers? I mean, come on! That's the best deal you're going to find in western Wisconsin. Decent selection too, mostly sixers and four packs. My one complaint about this place is that they could expand their bomber selection. While they do have some good bombers, it's nothing really special, and I would really like to see some FFF bombers in their coolers. Service is rated to average because while the people who work their are nice, they don't have many answers to questions and never seem to know when newer beers will hit the shelves. However, I did call ahead one time many months back and the person who I talked to on the phone kept some spare New Glarus bottles aside for me to pick up a few weeks later, which was really cool. The selection is good overall, but still not the quality of places in Hudson. But when I'm in La Crosse, this is always a must stop and my place to by Sconnie beer.

This is easily the best beer store in the La Crosse area. Located right off of I-90, it's pretty easy to get to. Huge craft beer selection with pretty much all breweries from WI and available to WI in stock. Very good prices and tons of solid beers to choose from. I found several remaining packs of Central Waters BBBW which I quickly snatched up. Lots of Ale Asylum and New Glarus as well as Bell's, Founders, Hoppin Frog, Oskar Blues, etc. Service was friendly and very helpful, just not real knowledgable in the craft beer area. One thing to note, they do not accept credit cards here. Cash, check, debit only, which can be a hassle. There is a nearby ATM, but with a $4 fee. I would definitely stop here again.

Stopped in here to pick up some NG fruit beers for the holidays. Up to visit family for a few days. So nice to see NG all over the shelves around here. What I wouldn't give to get them down in NC...Walk in the front and the beer is all over the left side of the store. The entire wall is dedicated to good beer. A great selection of singles to make a mixed sixer, lots of bombers, and an extensive list of sixpacks. All the usual suspects were there, Tyranena, NG, Capital, Rush River, Central Waters, etc. Among others were some great bombers from Goose Island and Boulevard. Six packs from too many breweries to name. Nice spot for great beer. All the beer is in coolers as well, which is always nice. Everything is ready for consumption right when you get home. Prosit!

Stopped here while staying in Onalaska on a business trip to La Crosse. The store is located on SR 16 not too far off I-90. There is a large parking lot.

The liquor/beer section is in its own section, with the beer being toward the left of the entrance. Much of it is in coolers, with some on shelves too.

The selection at Woodman's is pretty good. Brewers like Pearl Street, Central Waters, New Glarus regionally are represented, as are other domestic micros like Rogue, Sierra Nevada and Three Floyds. Some imports are available as well.

Service was pretty friendly but nothing too out of the ordinary for a store like this.

Overall this is a pretty solid spot on the outskirts of La Crosse.

Stopped here today on the way to Perrot State Park.

Side entrance with "liquor" emblazoned on the building in big red letters. Similar layout to Oak Creek, where you have to walk throuh the checkout immediately past the entrance. Long open cooler on the left side of the store, that runs the full length and wraps around the back. First up were mixed singles, bombers, and import singles. Unique to this location was a stack of "Beer Man's Wisconsin" guides about local beer culture, which was cool to see. Next were macro imports and malternative junk, which was a disconnect from the extensive craft sixers further down.

Selection was good, though I didn't find what I was looking for: Dancing Man, Central Waters seasonals, Lake Louie (only Coon Rock ). Still there was unique stuff like Big Hole from Montana, locals like Pearl St., etc. Alpha King was here, but no other FFF. Decent if not a little spotty selection wise.

At the register the guy was quick. Noticed old timers buying cases of Hamms Light, Old Style, and Lost Lake. Close to the highway which is convenient.

Cheapest beer in town. No question. For price and selection, Woodman's beats Festival and Quillin's. A little distant for the campus crowd, but you make up for it in value. They have several top 100 beers: duvel, la fin de mond, belgian red, raz tart, etc. also they have the best 3 floyds selection in the coulee region. olberon mini kegs. pick 6 is mediocre, i prefer festivals. a whole of different sixers though. Also, macros up the wazoo at the cheapest prices you're likely to find anywhere. Occasional sale items, too, right by the door. They had 22 oz New Belgium 1554's for $1.99 a few weeks ago! Awesome beer and an awesome bottle to brew in. Value can't be beat. Only Bodega beats the selection.

I have been to two Woodman's Liquor Stores now and both have impressed me. The one in the La Crosse area is not quite the size of the Madison's eastside store, but it's still impressive nonetheless. Like the other store, there was plenty of beer in coolers lining the walls of the store. In between there is endless amounts of liquor that I never explored, but I would imagine is quite vast. A pretty solid section of Wisconsin craft beers, is toward the back left corner of the store, with a small sign outside the cooler grabbing your attention. To my surprise a couple Lake Louie brews had made it that far north. Aside from that the usual Wisconsin craft beers, there were plenty of out of state beers that I never really ventured into. Prices as usual were as good as it gets. 4 packs of CW Bourbon Barrel Stout for $9 and New Glarus Raspberry Tart and Belgian Red for $7.39, which is a dollar + cheaper than anywhere I go near home. It was impressive. I didn't see any Ale Asylum, which I did when I was in Madison, but New Glarus, Tyranena, Central Waters, and Sprecher among others were all there at great prices.

I never needed any service finding beers as I usually enjoy just browsing the vastness of these Woodman's liquor stores, but there were people moving around the store stocking shelves and what not. I doubt there are too many people there who could offer you a decent recommendation on a great beer to try, but I could be wrong.

To sum it up, if you have an hour to spend exploring, and come across a Woodman's in Wisconsin, don't pass it up. You might walk out a little lighter in the wallet, but you will be happy with the quality beers you get.

Great place for beer! And wine, and booze, and many kinds of food except a little lacking in the higher end stuff. Prices are great. Service is decent although if you put in a special order or send them a postcard they rarely follow up on it. As for the beer: Excellent selection (especially for the La Crosse area) of import, micro, regional and macro brews. Huge selection of single bottles and six packs, all chilled and ready to go. Also a fair selection of cases and other large quantiies. I assume they have kegs, but don't rely on that. Also they do carry seasonals and have a heavy selection of Wisconsin products.

Well I went here by recommendation from natasharai and I was actually quite impressed. Sure it was no beer sanctuary but for a guy that's never gone to Wisconsin just for beer or even thought about it I was impressed. Picked up plenty of DFH and Founders and some New Glarus in there too. Got a mix pack of New Glarus for something like 7.99. Not bad. I walked to the register only to learn they would not take my check card and that I had to go get cash from their machine but I was still more than happy to just because I was in awe of the beers that aren't available in MN. Came back and had a laugh with the lady behind the register. She boxed up all my beers and was friendly. I expected my total to be around 80 bucks but to my surprise I barely got over 40. Very nice. I am gonna be going back prolly once every couple of weeks. Impressive and recommended to MN boys.

Went to Woodman's with some friends and wow was I amazed, haven't been to many liquor stores with a better selection that this! The store is huge and so is the beer section that was all in a open fridge wall. Happy to see almost every New Glarus and some Tyranena. Lots of other locals as well as a good selection of Dogfish Head and Unibroue along with some Left Hand and a couple Founder's. I was very very surprised to see Oskar Blues there, I didn't think that made it out of state. If you live in or around the area this is a great liquor store to check out with lots of great beers that are very useful for trading.

So the selection was great but when we were ready to check out there was a line of about 10-15 people, more associates came to help bring down the lines but I was just glad not to be in a rush, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and guess that I just came at a bad time. service was poor the second and third visits

Overall amazing beer selection with decent pricing, pretty standard all around. I can't wait to go back to one of my new favorite beer candy shops!

Woodmans is probably the biggest grocery store I've ever been in, it's like a gigantic warehouse. The liqour store is at the very end of the building and it's the best place to go in the Lacrosse area for good beer, whenever friends visit from out of state they always want to check out woodmans supply. There is a ton of regionals, quite a few Belgians and of corse the regulars. There is always a decent selection from some of my favorite breweries, Bells, Founders, NG, CW. I don't want to go on and make a complete list, but there is a pretty big selection, souther tier, rochefort, bear republic, chimay, unibroue, lagunitas, Victory, tyranena...
You don't have any emlpoyees walking the aisles asking to help, theres only one or two people running the place, which is fine with me. They are always friendly and helpful when you get to the registers.
The prices are probably the lowest as any store in the country, 12.50$ for a 6pack of Hopslam is a good example.

My friends (natasharai and AdmiralDiaz) and I took a trip to Woodman's to pick up some New Glarus. I had been there before and remembered they had a pretty good selection but this was the first time in a while and I know a lot more about beer now. They had a great craft brew selection from the U.S. But there imports were a little lacking. Lots of great beer form WI, MI and even some west coast beer. There were not enough people working so the service was next to none. Over all it was a good experience and I got some great beer that is not available in MN so I am happy.

I paid Woodman's a visit on a recent weekend swing through the La Crosse area, and as others have mentioned it's truly gargantuan in its proportions. The "liquor store" section enclosed within this seemingly endless warehouse-style retailer is pretty darn large in and of itself. In fact it's larger than the biggest retailers in my own corner of flyover country! And with endcaps, pallets, and cases of light industrial lagers stacked up to the ceiling you might at first think Woodman's is lacking in selection, but that just describes the southeast corner; at the intersection of the first aisle and the "Wall o' Beer", I spied 12-packs in the cooler doors some 75 feet further along. Here the selection improves as you walk the 100 feet from the northeast corner of the store to the northwest, where said cold box placements meet with the Craft beer selection. There are upwards of a dozen 12 pack and six pack selections placed in floor stacks in the craft section along with a couple of hundred distinct craft brands kept cold, mostly in the six pack format. Walking further, the cold beer (along with malt beverage and cider) selection continues along the wall to the southwest corner of the store, near the entrance. In between the craft and import selections was a small mix-a-six selection, from which I chose several Pearl Street bottles.

Craft brands were well represented and included the likes of Abita, Bear Republic, and Dogfish Head along with a strong showing of Wisconsin brews (Ale Asylum, Capital) and regional favorites like Bell's and Great Lakes. I picked up a six of Central Waters, a good deal at $6.99.

The Import selection included a nice (but not overwhelmingly large) selection of Belgian ales along with several Italian and Greek lagers, the requisite selection of Chinese brands and a good selection of British (Fuller's London Porter in cans!) and German beer, including all four Hofbrauhaus brands. Nearest to the malt beverages, wine coolers and ciders is a grouping of large format import bottles as well as domestic and craft bombers, well over two hundred distinct bottles in total. Here I grabbed a Big Bear Black stout, but was very tempted by several rarer birds from Dogfish Head as well.

Although there are plenty of places to buy beer in the area Woodman's has them all beat with their great selection and very good overall quality. And while I did see some older product (several well-known Maibocks) it had all been kept cold. Prices were good overall and in some cases very good, including $7.49 for a Dundee variety 12 pack. Service was friendly at checkout, and it was there in the form of stockers if I'd needed help finding anything. Altogether I'd say it's worth a re-visit the next time I'm through and could be worth a visit if you happen to be passing through as well.

I've stopped in Woodmans in Onalaska a hand full of times now. The selection is pretty good. They carry a lot of beers that aren't available in Minnesota (i.e. New Glarus, Pearl Street, Great Lakes, Central Waters, Bear Republic, and others). Their import and singles selection could be a lot better, and their mack your own six pack is so small one wonders why they even have it. Quality is been good on my visits. Service is none existent, and very slow at the registers. All in all, this is a good place to stop for craft beer on the MN/WI border.

My friend and I walked into this massive warehouse store for the sole purpose of finding the beer. We found a couple aisles stacked to the wall with BMC and a few 6-packs from New Glarus and Golden Leaf. After reading the reviews on here I knew that couldn't be it so we proceeded in wandering throughout the entire store. Disgusted that that was, indeed, the only beer we found we decided to leave. On the way out we walked past the photo section and a quick glance to my left saw a woman carting out a case of wine so we proceeded to investigate.

Note to self, thoroughly READ the reviews before visiting a place like this. After roughly 10 minutes of wandering we finally discovered that there was actually a separate liquor section right next to where we came in but had skipped right over it. So we walked in and saw the wall... a very large wall, at that, filled with beer. (Eventually we would discover that three of the four walls were actually filled with beer.)

The selection is divided fairly logically. The first area we found contained a large number of Belgian singles (along with singles of Belgian-style American micros and Unibroue products). Next was German and English singles, followed by a small section of 4/6-packs of more popular imports from around the globe. After this came the American micros with an excellent representation from the Midwest and larger Eastern and West Coast breweries as well. Finally we found the macro section which was just as enormous as the craft section, though needless to say we didn't spend much time here.

There's a lot of beer here. Listing off even a fraction of what we saw would be pointless. I eventually walked out with a 4-pack of New Glarus Smoke on the Porter, a Raspberry Tart/Belgian Red gift set, a 6-pack each of Bell's 8000 and Old Foghorn, and a handful of singles from everywhere from Dogfish Head to my bomber of Racer 5. The Belgian selection was better than average, and the English and German sections were excellent. Not to mention some more rare and obscure, though not particularly good brews from some of those "other countries" like Birra Moretti and Kingfisher.

My only real gripe was the singles selection. Most imports were available as singles but only about 15-20 American micros were. That's a lot more than most places obviously, but considering the hundreds of different brews it is a bit disappointing.

'm not particularly surprised, but the service in here was nil. It's a huge warehouse store and I only saw a single employee in the liquor section manning the register.

Pricing was some of the lowest I've ever seen (for instance, Raspberry Tart/Wisconsin Belgian Red for $7.39 a 750ml), with one notable exception: the Belgians. Still, on the whole the pricing is more than reasonable.

Not the greatest beer selection I've ever seen, but pretty damned good. And considering everything else I've seen in the area it's amazing. Definitely stop in if you're in the La Crosse area.

This is a massive liquor store. The beer here is conviently arranged into imports (plus a few American 750's) and American craft beer. The BMC stuff is on the other side of the store and nicely hidden from the thoughts of the beer advocate. Nearly all of the stock is in coolers, including their selection of 12-packs and cases. There is a mixed six-pack section, but unfortunately, the selection that is afforded is quite small. Service in the beer section was nil. No employees anywhere near me during my visit, though in such a large store, this wasn't unexpected. I'm not sure how the prices here stack up against other WI beer stores, but they were much cheaper (especially for wine and liquor) than what I'm used to in OH.

The Woodman’s in Onalaska looks just like all the rest do on the outside, a huge warehouse-like building with a massive parking lot.
The direct entrance to the beer and liquor department is located around the corner to the right of the main doors. The beer/liquor department is impressive in size.
The layout of the store is similar to the Woodman’s (East) in Madison with the wine and liquor taking up a majority of the space at the middle of the area. Along the left wall you will find the import section. Further back along the left wall the craft and microbrew section begins. You will find plenty of good beers through here.
At the left rear and rear of the store are the regional brews with Wisconsin breweries being very well represented.
This store is rumored to have less of a beer selection than other Woodman’s stores, I'm not convinced of this. You would have a difficult time not finding what you are looking for here.
So, when you’re in La Crosse or Onalaska and are looking for a good selection of quality beers this is a great place to go.
