Two and change hours out to Pville, why do we repeatedly do this? (It's a simple "In Dude we trust" philosophy, is all). The long ride's thirst was quite quickly quelled by the released just hours before "Dude De Garde", but the hunger thing hadn't really been dealt other than light apps there. My suspicions that Handsome Ed (and Not Terribly Unattractive Heather) would want dinner elsewhere were correct, so we threw some places around and around. Ed, having an affinity for Iron Hill, offered up the new location in town and Phil jumped all over that, you know of his love for chain brewpubs...
The area described as considerably dodgier than it seemed, we parked in not so much a parking lot across the street but rather something of a free for all space on a hill, cars everywhere and every which way. A whole lot of people jamming up the entranceway, but due to our superstardom and nobody here actually waiting for a table, we were seated fairly quickly in the near empty rear dining room. It's an airplane hanger type room with a curved foldy metal ceiling center but flat ends, mesh copper covered cast iron chandeliers between the ceiling fans and sunken spots, and wall mounted glass lamps. 8 wide booths on the rear mural wall, 8 shorter booths on the inside wall below wood paneling, and a dozen tables down the center, all sizes and shapes. Up front, an 8 seat "C" shaped bar with towers of 8 at each end, booze in barback shelving boxes with views through to the rear dining room, mounted flatscreens to both sides, and a slanted rolled metal ceiling. Considerably smaller than the bar areas I've seen at the other locations and no large signature cast iron weather vane. An adjacent bar counter serves as divider to the forward seating area holding a dozen raised bar tables along the front windows, overlooking the seating on the front deck running the length of the building. The brewroom here is actually a side room behind glass off the entranceway.
I had the chicken gumbo, which was solid, spicy, wanted a bowl but thought it better to have a cup, and the steak fajita wrap, also very good, but small.
And then maybe something to drink. The 6 standard house beers (Iron Hill Light Lager, Pig Iron Porter, Lodestone Lager, Raspberry Wheat, Ironbound Ale, Anvil Ale), and 3 seasonals. The Munich Dunkel had a good malt profile; the Abbey Dubbel, lightly colored, nicely sweet, deep; and the Nitro Dry Irish Stout, bitter, thinnish, kind of oaty. Beers we had were fresh and tasty. No cask, but you can't have everything. Service was very good. Although shorthanded, our server jammed, and he gets points for offering to deal Phil some much needed fries.
I've found the Iron Hill locations to be consistent in content and quality, this is no exception. Good addition to the area brew scene.

My uncle and I were in town for Sly Fox's 15th Anniversary and it seemed as if a slight detour on the way home might be in order.
A long east-west running windowfront led to the entry at the corner of Bridge Street and Church Avenue and coming in, I passed the brewhouse on my left, followed by the m.d.s., then the lavatories and by turning right, the the restaurant area with its sea of standard tables and chairs. Just past the last of the tables was the busy kitchen.
Backing up, taking a right just before the m.d.s., put me in the bar area with the abbreviated "U"-shaped dark wood bar as its centerpiece. A shoulder-high partition divided the bar from the bar service area which sat in full view of passersby through the aforementioned long window. I am not a fishbowl barfly and so I took a seat at the bar near a friendly couple who saw fit to pick my addled brain when it was established that I was a beer writer.
Beers: Beyond the five (5) standards which I seldom bother with any more, they also had eight (8) CO2 taps, one (1) N2 tap and a cask going on the occasion of my visit. Variety is the spice of life.
Ambiance: It was a welcoming, clean, well-lit place for beer IAW company standards. I always enjoy visiting Iron Hill, no matter which location.
Return? Oh, yeah!

Iron Hill has done it again with their newest location in Phoenixville. It's right on Bridge Street, just down the block from the Steel City Coffee House. There are some nice artsy stores, a music store, and a cheese shop along the way, and it seems like the combination of Iron Hill and Steel City could really help the area grow. (It's too bad that Destiny Brewing closed so quickly).
Parking can be a little tough at times; and it feels a little bit tighter inside, especially at the bar - not that there's anything they really could have done about that, the space is what it is. The food and beers are excellent, and hopefully the service will pick up to their usual standards once they've been up and running for a bit.
There was a time I used to take my family to one of the Iron Hill locations almost every weekend... Phoenixville will make that even easier to do!

I was running through my previous beerfly reviews and realized I hadn't gotten around to reviewing this place yet. I've been slacking! This location is on the small side compared to the other IH locations I've visited, but there's still a fair bit of space in the dining room and bar area. You pass the brewhouse as you walk in and you can see the whole set-up - very cool. It gets busy after work, so we try to plan visits for around lunch time on the weekends. Service has always been good and very kid-friendly. If you're lucky enough to run into Tim the head brewer, make sure to say hi because he's a great guy and knows his beer.
They've got the standard IH offerings all the time plus a couple of seasonals, which have been quite good at this location - the roggenbier especially made an impression on me. Beers taste fresh and clean, and generally appeal to a wide audience. Reasonably priced pints, though growlers do get a bit expensive. Vintage bottled beers are on the pricey side as well, but that's not surprising given the limited availability. The food is always tasty, pizzas are quite good, though some items do get a bit pricey yet not out of reason.
This is the kind of place that I'm comfortable bringing my parents to. The beers are accessible to a wide range of palates and the food is solid. The only trouble we've run into is the lack of parking nearby, but that's only been a problem during busy times like after work. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area.

Stopped by here on a Sunday with a few other BA's. Never been to one of the iron hills in all my years here in SEPA, odd, I know.
Iron Hill Pheonixville is a spacious brewpub with window seating, A big beautiful wooden bar, and a seperate seating area for larger parties. The look is modern and reminds me of a few other bars in the area. This place is clean and the brewing equipment is out in the open.
Well the quality is up there, fresh beer str8 from the source. I had the berliner Weisse, IPA, triple, and a few others. Simple straight forward styles that don't stray. Im bummed I missed the RIS but next time.All in all about 10 styles on tap and one nitro tap pouring a pale ale, that was nice.
Service was good. Up front, the bartender knew the styles and explained them well. The entire staff seemed friendly. No problems with samples if needed.
Selection is pretty much already stated, 10 taps of good on premise beer and a nitro tap. an array of styles from light to dark. Some bottles for sale to including a 2007 old ale and some B-wines & others. Growlers are available and sampler trays are also offered. Soda and other beverages for those not partaking.
The food was up there as well. I had some frites with some brushetta bites and other things I cant remember. Good presentation and great taste.
I like this place, i will come back and visit other locations.

Stopped by last Thursday. This is the second Iron Hill I have been to and from a beer perspective, I do not understand why this place does not get more hype. They had five regular drafts on tap. Their specialty drafts were a rauch, roggenbier, triple, Belgian pale, and imperial pumpkin. The beers I tried were all excellent. The server I had was friendly and knowledgable. He did offer samples which is a plus. The food was good not great. I had a pulled pork sandwich, fries, and soup. The biggest detractor from this place is the fact that is that it is not cheap. While tasty, the prices are a good two or three dollars more than I would like to pay. Overall, this place has some of the best variety and quality of home made brews I have had. I will certainly come back for the beer, but I may eat elsewhere beforehand to save some money.

I always have an enjoyable experience going to this Iron Hill. The wife and I always try to get a window-side table in the bar area, as the dining room can get a bit noisy sometimes. Service is always excellent, and the staff always has pretty good knowledge of their beers. I have to knock them down some on their beer selection, however. It seems like they never have any IPAs or pale ales available, other than their house pale, which is ok... The rest of the beers are always Belgian and wheat dominated. The food is a little bit better than the rest of the area's brewpubs, with a wide variety of selections, and good value for the money.
