Notes & Commercial Description:

Walnut Street Wheat is brewed using a combination of malted barley, malted wheat, and raw wheat giving this brew a pale straw cloudiness and crisp snap from the high ratio of wheat. Balance comes from a smack of hops and the result is an excellent unfiltered wheat beer.

Pours a hazy, golden color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of wheat, pale malt, slight hops, sugar, hint of caramel malt, and adjunct. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, pale malt, hint of hops, wheat, and hint of citrus. Overall, weak appearance, and the aroma and body are average at best.

Walnut Street Wheat pours to a golden straw hue with a nose that suggests wheat, as expected, plus some yeast and spicy hops. The body of the beer is cloudy and the foam is average.

Taste- wise, this beer is about what I expected and follows directly from the nose. The taste of wheat malt dominates, but there is also some spice, a touch of citrus, and a certain crispness that adds to the beer’s drinkability and refreshment.

Walnut Street Wheat is a light bodied brew and it seems like a good choice for those who love their wheat and/or want some beer that ranks higher on the refreshment scale. This beer uses many of the same ingredients found in other wheat beer, but then adds additional raw wheat for added wheat flavor and crispness.

This beer may not rank among the world’s classics, but it still seems like an enjoyable, all- around, session wheat ale. It is certainly deserving of a try if you get the chance to sample.
