Big selection of Belgian beers that are hard to find in the States and extremely low prices from an American perspective. I realize that American craft beers are difficult to find there so its a sort of symmetrical situation. Still we payed 35 euros for what I think would have ran around 100-150 in the US (if you could find some of this stuff at all). Nice busy vibe- got here early in the morning while shelves were being stocked. I had a lot of specific stuff I was looking for which I found. Staff seemed helpful but also left us alone to browse which was nice.

Easily accessible off the main square, De Biertempel is a small establishment that packs quite a bit in. Glassware was quite extensive; although they didn't have any Drie Fonteinen stemware, which was one of my reasons for stopping in. There were definitely some interesting gems (i.e. large format Black Damnation beers); however, nothing really rung my bell. Prices were a bit higher than the other stores I visited. That said, definitely worth a stop if you are in the city; however, I found the Bottle Shop to be far superior.

Small place in town, but a large selection. Prices are on the higher side, but not outrageous. Shelf lambics, trappist stuff, massive Belgian glassware collection, and other collectibles and merch. I ended up getting a couple glasses that I [surprisingly] didn't own yet, and a few simple bottles for the hotel. It's an easily accessible place, so you might as well check it out as you're strolling through town.

Yea, solid selection. But no clue why this is rated so highly. Had Fou Fone and other Cantillon on the menu (only €11.75 for Fou) but only Kriek and Rose actually in stock. Westy Blond and 8 also on menu and out of stock. Poor service overall. Food was below Chili’s level. Very disappointed. While for an American, drinking 2 Cantillons and a Westy 12 with lunch is awesome, these are all over the local shop shelves and there were no other things nice about this place. Stop in I guess, but better places to eat with a fine beer selection everywhere. Seriously this place is a major tourist trap ambiance.

Quite a bit smaller than it's Brussels sibling, and to be honest, the selection is just a fraction of what you'll find at the Brussels Biertempel.

I snagged a Horal's Tour de Gueuze, but as I suspected, if I had rolled the dice and waited to the Brussels portion of the trip I would have saved a few Euros. Decent selection of other "standard" lambics, but if you're like us and visiting Brugge prior to Brussels, you'd be advised not to pull the trigger on any of those Brussels-based beers prior to getting to Brussels.

The glassware selection is very solid - snagged one of those really fantastic De Dolle Oerbier wine glasses.

Probably the most consistent selection in Brugge, but not anywhere near as good as the Brussels location.

A great shop! Lots of bottles and good space. But many of the offerings seem to be readily available beers. They didn't seem to have anything rare and were light on sours. I also picked up a nice Rodenbach tin tacker for my pub room. Well worth a visit!

Just about the only beer shop I pop into and don’t buy a beer when in Brugge: just a tourist trap really, like the one in Brussels.

To be fair however it is bright and clean, always has a good display in the front windows and is full of beery souvenirs as well as bottles; both single and in presentation packs for the folks back home. Staff friendly enough.

Over priced in my opinion and caters for the occasional Belgian beer drinker, not a serious Belgian beer hunter.

If you want it, they got it. This place is amazing, great selection and reasonable prices. Well laid out with really good service.

Centrally located, we were able to get a few beers for the hotel room and a few rare beers to take home.

Cool shop where we can't wait to go here again.

Had a great time here. They are knowledgeable and friendly, and sold me a bunch of beer to ship back (including Westvleteren). I absolutely love the giant walls of beer and beer glasses. If I ever come back to Brugge this is the shop I would come to.

After an unsuccessful attempt to enjoy some Westvleteren beers at the abbey (it was closed), we decided to check out Brugge on the way back.. De Bier Temple is located within less than a five minutes walk from the city center. It isn't a big store in terms of square footage, yet if you're looking for fine Belgian beer and glassware, the selection is impressive.. they have a lot of beers that I wouldn't be able to find in Chicago, including Westvleteren.

The staff was extremely professional and friendly. We chatted with the cashier and browsed the selection for about ten minutes after the store had closed.. we had purchased six bottles of Westy 12, a Westvleteren chalice, and a bottle of Cantillon Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio.. all of these items were carefully wrapped and packaged for us.

All in all, I'm glad I stopped in De Bier Temple.. it's definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area.

Great selection but definetly the tourist stop (not tourist trap)to get those hard to finds which means higher prices. However, the do have a ridiculous selection and a very cool atmosphere.

Lots of gift packs for samplers or gifts to bring home for any beer lover.

There's a great selection of glassware too and when I was there last year they allowed you to mix 6 packs.

If you are reading this you will want to at least check it out to be in awe of place and wish it were located in your hometown.

I was told this is the place to pick up some bottles. This is just a twenty feet away from the main square in town. Tons of bottles, glassware, hats, shirts, and well everything you can think of Belgian Beer. After some looking I asked for Westy, they asked how many of each do I want. Stupid me asked, how many you got... they showed me...it was like porn...cases of 12, yes cases. I only got two, because I have been so blessed on this trip with everything else, I could not be greedy. Go in here, you almost can't leave.

This is a great bottle shop in Brugge and a must visit when in that city. I stopped by here prior to going to the Cambrinus which is two buildings down the street. Really great selection of Belgian beers and glasses. I purchased a westy 8 and my friend was able to score a 2 bottles of westy 12. We asked about a westy glass and a De Struise glass but he said he did not have them in stock and to check back tomorrow because he would call about them. we stopped the next morning and he had the glasses for us and was very friendly. Great service and selection plus they speak English really well here too.

Guess who's coming home with 20 bottles of Westy!?!?!? The folks at bier temple were very accommodating. The nice lady even helped me wrap each bottle in bubble wrap and pack a couple of boxes full of beer. It's right off the main square and very easy to locate. The owner mentioned that he gets Westvleteren in commonly, and it was priced at 9.95 a bottle. A great way to finish off a couple of days in Bruges.

I went to De Bier Tempel prior to going to the Cambrinus which is right on the same street. The bottle selection was extensive and by the crowd inside you could tell instantly this was a popular establishment. I really wanted to give a shout out to the person working there (presumably the owner) who made a phone call to someone to get a Westvleteren glass for me to pick up before the end of my trip in Brugge. There is a big glass selection at this store, but there weren't any Westvleteren glasses so the owner placed a special order. I was very happy to leave Brugge with a Westvleteren glass. Thanks again for the excellent service! My friend and I also bought a couple bottles while we were there. It's a great store overall.

In Brugge this has to be one of my first stops or hopefully land some rare Belgians. On a quiet street very close to one of the squares and major churches. A very small but nice shop, clean, new, nice comfortable atmosphere. The beer is against the back wall, a rather small amount for the size of the shop. The rest of the shop was just trinkets and way to expensive beer gifts. The selection was big but boring. Mostly all Belgian staples, hardly anything that you cannot find at your local neighborhood grocery store. A few De Struise was the only highlight. Nothing remotely rare at all. A WEAK selection of Cantillon and lambics that can be find at ANY decent store in Chicago. This place is all hype and totally sucks. NOTHING rare, save your money and just buy from any of the local markets. So DISAPPOINTING.

Now this is a real bottle shop! What a great little spot with shelves that are jam packed with quality ales; specializing in West Flanders offerings, but with a good variety from every region of Belgium - all quality with no filler and no commercial crap like Palm, Hoegaarden, etc.
Had a real neighborhood bottle shop feel to it, with only one shopkeep that knew his stuff well and was pulling crazy bottles out of the back room for me. I walked with some amazing Cantillon's that I have never seen in the States, as well as being introduced to a few I had never heard of before, like - Smiske Nature-Ale and a some others that were absolutely delicious. We walked out of there very happy with the service, selection and quality being nothing short of top notch. The shopkeep even gave us 2 free drink tickets for Cambrinus bar, which was right next door.

When your in Brugge looking for the real deal, this is the place!

Stopped in here on our trip to Bruges. It's just off the main square, and a good six iron from The Bottle Shop.

The guy was nice enough. He explained a bit about Kriek that I wasn't aware of. That's not hard to do, as I know very little about Kriek. I usually try to keep it that way, but he seemed intent on teaching me something, which I appreciated. Seems to like chatting too, so chat him up if you get the chance.

As for the shop itself, this is a tiny place with not much available. I'm not quite sure why this one gets such high scores to be honest. The back wall has a decent selection of beer, but the sides and front are filled with gift packs and kitchy swag. I guess the tourists like that kind of stuff though, so I can't really blame him. I did think it was a bit of a shame, especially since they have to put different brews from the same brewery behind each other because they have so little shelf space at the back.

Anyways, the selection was standard. The only thing I found there that I didn't find anywhere else in the city was a few bottles of Black Damnation. I picked those up because they rule the world and all of mankind. Other than that, a decent gueuze selection and all of the usual Belgian suspects were there. Nothing overly rare, and even some not-so-rare brews weren't to be found.

Prices were a little higher than they had to be. Brews were slightly more expensive than The Bottle Shop down the road, and the selection wasn't as good. The Black Damnations were €5 each, which wasn't bad compared to insane Amsterdam prices, but it was slightly higher than they needed to be. The other prices were also a touch higher than The Bottle Shop.

All in all, a decent place to check out and to see if they've got anything sitting around that you might not find elsewhere, but don't drop cash here until you've checked out the competition down the road. In general, there are better prices and selection to be found elsewhere.

I came in here looking for a Westy blonde and sadly didn't find it however they did have Westy 8 which I love so I picked up a bottle for only 8 or 9 euro. If you want a specific westy I'd say go to 400 beers because they mark up their westy beers so much that they always have some of each.

Other than that this was a pretty decent place, they had all your standard Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen beers, not too much out of the ordinary though but it seems like the place that you could stumble upon some great stuff while you're there.

Pricing seemed pretty fair for everything that I got, and their selection was one of the largest I saw in Belgium outside of the Delirium Cafe.

Visited this place a couple of times on our last trip to Bruges. The selection of beer is quite good here. Virtually all beer in the shop was high-quality Belgian craft brew, and it was all displayed cleanly. Plenty of breweriana here too.

The service was virtually non-existent. They could have had a robot handling the transactions at the cash register, with pre-programmed responses to standard questions. But hey, you're here for good beer, not 1st class service, right?

While the selection here was excellent, I found that it lacked a number of rare Belgian brews, and tended to focus more on a solid range of staple offerings from the breweries.

I only saw one variety of Fantome, only a couple Cantillons, and no Westvleteren this time. The Christmas beers were virtually all gone by the time of our visit as well (Mid March). Don't get me wrong, the selection is incredible, but I wanted to explain what kept me from giving it a perfect '5' in the Selection department.

Neat beer store just down the road from Cambrinus, with a damn fine selection of Belgians. If you're after a Belgian beer you'd be unlucky not to find it here. There was even some Westy 8 in the cooler, though I decided not to partake. Prices seemed reasonable for a tourist area, although I'm sure some of these bottles could be found cheaper elsewhere.

My one complaint is that the service was actually pretty crap. The guy was slow and distracted, looking off into the distance. This was in stark contrast to the friendly lady at Bier Tempel in Brussels. Nonetheless, this is probably the place to go in Brugges.

Visited there just before the Cambrinus Restaurant in Brugge, Belgium. They are down the street from one another and are apparently owned by the same people or persons.

Quality: Excellent. With a nice display for such a small space and care taken to display bottles, glasses and other items carefully, really nice quality.

Service: Just fine as we were helped by the proprieter there. She came out from behind the counter to help me find the De Struise brothers beers that I was looking for.

Selection: Could not be better. Maybe 400 bottles, almost all Belgians...this place has one of the best selections that I have ever seen.

Value: 4 11.2 ounce (330ml) rare Belgians for $12. Not bad at all!

Review from July 2007.

Service was cordial but not warming. The girl at the counter was pounding a red bull-not unfriendly but definitely not welcoming.

Selection: What can you say. Amazing variety of European beers. Belgian beers were obviously very well represented here. All of the Westvleteren's were out of stock, however. I picked up a Westy 8 in Brussels in Grand Place instead. I've been informed that this is irregular at best and that Westvleteren is usually very accessible. The rest of the selection was second to none.

Value: €5 was about the maximum price for any of the 33cL bottles. Most expensive beer was maybe €12. Great value for travelers who would otherwise have to trade for these beers.

This is the shop where I purchased my beloved Westy 12. Although I still haven't opened it up. I am looking forward to the day when I do. But I purchased many other great Belgian brews from the Tempel. What a great shop. Lots of fun shirts and beer glasses as well. If you haven't been, you should go. Plus, bruges is such a great little town with such friendly people.
