Basically this beer is absolutely nothing special at all. The beer is yellow and rather bland. Dull look white head and not much aroma. The beer itself is just not impressive to say the least. I can't believe it's as expensive as it is. The only flashy thing about this beer is the label. Total bummer of a beer.

Appears : Light copper golden ale leaves bright white head behind, wow leaves a bright white head and thick white lacing.

Aroma: Wow, thick grainy sweetness leaves behind hop aromatics with ginger tones.

Taste: leaves behind caramel thickness that tastes oh so good that is coated with sugar coated sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Sugary medium bodied so nice not even carbonation:

Drinakbility: Very smooth butt monkey of a sorts.

I picked this up at Queen six pack in Lancaster. Poured cold from the 12oz brown bottle into a Nonic

A - Pale golden w/ a quickly dissipating white head that leaves no lace to speak of. The clarity is good and there are plenty of streaming bubbles rising to the top of the glass

S - Slightly sweet in the scent dept. This ale hints at cereal w/ a slightly sweet corn accent in the aroma

M - A sweet, light and refreshing crisp feel w/ decent carbonation and mild malt texture w/ a relatively clean finish

T- Sweet extra light malt flavor w/ slight creaminess similar to a pale wheat ale. There is a gentle touch of adjunct in the ale as it warms, but mostly a refreshing light ale is what I get out of this. Subtle toasted malt w/ a honey-like tinge it begs for easy summer drinkin'

D - This is a fine light ale, much better than an industrial lager or macro IMO. I find this to be perfect for a warm summer day on the deck chillaxin'. It is a nice alternative to BMC and makes a nice lawnmower ale, but I am not averse to light bodied ales

Pours straw yellow with a thin white head that becomes a patch that covers most of the top.

The smell is of tonic water with a touch of grain - some "beer-like" quality, but not much.

The taste ia of some sweetness with just a hint of bland, washed-out hops. "Wet cardboard" in the very abrupt finish. Fizzy carbonation covers up any potential for flavor that might be there.

Drinkable as far as light and fizzy, bland "beer" goes I suppose. Personally, I think that this is not worth a monkey's butt.

Appearance: clear yellow in color with no head, only a spotty surface foam. Numerous fast rising carbonation bubbles are visible. No lacing.

Smell: grass and corn and barely detectable by the nose. Basically no aroma.

Taste: thin malt levels, corn, honey, green grapes, grass, and no bitterness. Just an unpleasant mess here.

Mouthfeel: lightly crisp to start, dry and smooth at the finish. Light in body, thin in flavor. Clean aftertaste.

Drinkability: we’ll leave the Butt Monkey jokes out here – this beer is just not worth having. Pass this by if you see it on the shelves in your store.

Poured a transparent straw yellow color with 1 finger head that dissolved into a thin layer. Has a little bit of lacing. Nearly constantly bubbling from the carbination. Initially had a yeasty smell upon opening and pouring but that passes on to a smell that reminds me of lemons. Taste is a bit watered down as compared to the other cream ales I have had. I think I can taste a tiny bit of trace malts, but that might be because I am fighting to get a taste out of this beer. The aftertaste is almost buttery and mouthfeel is quite light.

Butt Monkey?!? WTF?!? Chimp Chiller? Wha? Also, my bottle indicated that it was made by the "Golden Beverage Co. Wilkes-Barre, PA". Okay, whose butt did this monkey fly out of?

It began by pouring out with a thick, bone-white head that quickly reduced to a light cover of wisps on the surface of the beer. Color was a really pale yellow with NE-quality clarity. The nose had a slight mustiness and a lightly malty aspect. It smelled like most mass-produced beers, setting me up for disappointment. The mouthfeel was really thin, bordering on watery. It had a light malty flavor on the tongue, but I was underimpressed. The finish had a slight bite to it, but overall, it reminded me of some sort of ethereal beer that was just too light and fluffy to remain earthbound. As a cream ale, I am still reaching for a Genny.

Now labled as "Bad Monkey" after some backlash I suppose.

A. 12 oz bottle into a clean pint glass. Soapy head on a clear piss yellow body. Head recedes to a trace. No lacing.

S. Husky cream smell with perhaps a hint of hops. Smells and looks similar to a macro.

T. Pale malts are the predominant feature of this brew. Some light adjuncts are there but barely noticable. No discernable hop flavor, and very little bitterness to help balance the malt sweetnes. On par for the style, but very average.

M. Light and well carbonated. Sweet aftertaste doesn't linger too much.

D. Overall, a decent example of the style, but doesn't really leave much of an impression. Too sweet to really have more than one, unless you absolutely love cream ales.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a small head. Smell is of malts, a good bit sweet on the nose. Taste is not sweet, rather light and mild, a bit of malts, not a whole lot of flavor. Feels light in the mouth and has good drinkability. Overall this is a mediocre brew.

A: Pours a light golden yellow hue with a medium white head. No lace.

S: Big on corn with hints of green grass.

T: Tons of corn with some very light hops. Honey sweetness in the finish.

M: Light in body with good carbonation.

D: It's drinkable, but not the most tasty.

Courtesy of a friend, I recently had the chance to try this brew. It pours a very pale color with a slight yellow color and is completely clear. Unremarkable head. The aroma is slightly grainy, with a bit of grass behind it. It’s initially pretty unimpressive. The taste is better than expected, though. It’s a got a grain flavor, with a very slight touch of malt. There’s certainly not a lot to this beer, but it’s better than the usual macro. It’s smooth and clean, with a light body. This would never be a ‘go-to’ beer for me, but it’s not as disappointing as the first glimpse indicated.

Poured into a pint glass. I think this is the beer I am drinking. It says on the label, "BadMonkey, Chimp Chiller Ale, brewed and bottled by Golden Beverage Company, Wilkes Barre."

1.5 A: Shitty piss yellow color with a shitty white head.

2.0 S: Floral and citrus hops dominate the nose. There's also a healthy bit of pine in there as well. Lots of fruitiness with pineapple up front and hints of mango in the background.

1.0 T: Holy fuck this is bad. Seems like there is about 2% barley in this bitch. Tastes like adjuncts and nothing. This has me craving an Old German right now.

1.0 M: Super light body. Undercarbonated. Basically nothing is done right here.

1.0 D: Just about every other shitty beer out there is better than this one.

Appearance - pours a pretty clear light golden into a pilsner glass. A half inch of foam, creamy and tight, and with good retention. Fades down slowly, leaving a solid wake of lace covering everything.

Aroma - corny, slightly sweet. It's okay for the style.

Taste - macroish grain flavor, slightly sweet as in the nose. No hop presence, just a fading of the grain on the swallow.

Mouthfeel - thin and watery, plenty crisp; good form per the style.

Drinkability - goes down easy enough, but I wouldn't make a habit of these. Thanks to beachbum for the bottle.

after reading some of these reviews I was somewhat afraid to try this beer. Actually-its not bad. The appearance and smell are average-almost what you'd expect a typical run of the mill American lager or maybe a sub-par ale to smell and look like. It yellow with no head retention and nothing particular stands out in the smell. Its would the average person would say smells like "beer" maybe with a hint of sweet.

I was pleasantly suprised by the taste, mouthfeel and drinkability. The taste is very smooth and creamy. Its sweet but still yeasty. The aftertaste is very sweet and creamy. The mouthfeel is above average. Carbonation is very low but its very smooth. This is a very drinkable beer. Completely unoffensive and nothing bitter.

Single bottle copped from Gary's in Madison...
I don't know what the brewery is trying to pull off with the monkey logo sticker...
Pours an ultra-light, see-through golden hue with a minimal head and very minor lacing...
Smell: Faint, nondescript, unassertive pale aroma...
Taste: Crisp, refreshing, light-bodied flavor... Easily drinkable, yet still lacking in the flavor department...
Loose, watered-down mouthfeel...
Not too sure about this one...

12oz bottle into pint glass

Crystal clear straw hue with a very thin fizzy white head.

Barely any aroma, just a little grain.

Very plain flavor, somewhat sweet, with some bready grain and just a touch of leafy hops. Light bodied, high carbonation.

A pretty bland beer, and actually very inoffensive. Very drinkable, if this is the type of beer you're looking for.

Pours a very faint yellow color with a small head which gives way to some lacing. The aroma is of some citrus and sweet florals but the smell is very faint and almost not there. The taste is of sweet flavors, some fruit taste and no really hop presence, some adjunct bite at the end. The mouthfeel is light bodied and stingy. Drinkability wise it not offensive but nothing pleasurable to keep you coming back.

Pours a run of the mill looking crisp light gold colour with a head that leaves no markings on the glass.

The aroma is faintly sweet with some grain in the mix. Some grassy notes and possibly some corn as well.

The flavour is actually not bad at first sip, but each successive sip brings out the flaws in this one. Corn flavours become much more apparent here with the grass notes and grainy feel taking a definite back seat. Very much scatter shot. Mouthfeel is light bodied and just very bland.

This one is just not enjoyable. A bad marketing idea coupled with a beer that's equally ill-conceived. Don't bother.

I taste corn, cheap corn. The feel on the palate is flat. Looks pale and cheap with no head. Tastes pale and cheap, with no oomph. Upon the first sip I was already thinking drain pour. Stale candy comes to mind.
If you happen to enjoy the taste of Budweiser, then by all means do pick this up as there is a striking resemblance in profile.
Otherwise
avoid.

Appearence: Pours a dull, clear yellow with a thin, foamy white head.

Smell: Very malty, with hardly any hop presence. Buttery (uh-oh), with a little but of earthy, floral aromas.

Taste and Mouthfeel: Light and refreshing, yet offering very little to the palate. Just a tiny bit of hop bitterness, and a very watered down mouthfeel. Goes down real easy, and it is thirst quenching. Almost tastes like a light lager...

Drinakbility and Overall: I think they might have wanted to brew a pale ale with this one, but I feel it's a cream ale all the way? Tried it yet? What do you think? Although this beer is far from anything special, it would be a good lawnmower beer on a hot day.

Yes I fell victim to the hilarious looking bottle and grabbed a single. Plus it's brewed in Wilkes-Barre, right near my Alma Mater so I'll give it a whirl.

A - Completely transparent pale yellow. Tiny head of white fizz that disappears. Basically has the look of a macro lager.

S - Smell is of funky adjunct lager.

T - Tastes like a corn loaded, adjunct filled mess.

M - Extremely thin and watery.

D - No way.

This brew is simply awful. This is one of the few times I've bought a beer with no idea what it was. Oh well, the monkey picture is funny.

I had a difficult time finding this one on the site after picking it up on a whim from my local six pack shop. Never saw it before so I was intrigued. Apparently it's now called 'Bad Monkey' rather than 'Butt Monkey'. Very odd; the bottle looks exactly the same as the old one except the 'Butt' was replaced with 'Bad'. Guess I'll have to update that pick. Also I noticed that it's now brewed by the Golden Beverages Co. in Wilkes Barre, PA. In any case...

This illusive bugger pours a very clear, rather drab yellow with some sparse rising bubbles. The head was almost as illusive as beer because by the time I found it on the site the head was nowhere to be found. Egg-shell white and airy with little or no lace remaining.

Husky grain in the nose with some buttered cornbread and faint but floral hops. After the skepticism I felt post pour I'm feeling a little better considering the aroma was a pleasant surprise.

Sweet and malty up front with some very pleasant buttery biscuit notes. Mild but pronounced, spicy hops as well. I'm liking this one. A great representation of a cream ale IMO. From my college days I still have a fond recollection of Genesee Cream Ale and, dare I say, I prefer this selection over it.

The mouthfeel is fluffy upfront with a very fine textured carbonation that fades to distinct creamy feel. Really compliments the beer's mild but pleasing character.

I'd say the drinkabilty is high, even for the style. The fact that there's no standout flaws that some beers of the style display (i.e. - metallic or boozy) that hinder me from drinking several without it wearing on my palate, bodes well for this brew. Ignore the style and the tacky label; if you're in the mood for something easy drinking and well balanced, give this one a go.

enjoyed from bottle, my friend richard's parents brought him some from PA. He poured one to a glass and it had a regular golden bmc shade.

smells of malt, adjunct slight hop bitterness, clean and biscuity

taste is of sweet malt, slight adjuncty corn, nice medium carbonation, biscuity toffee, hops come in after the sweetness and give a nice slight bitterness. clean and refreshing, would be a great summer beer.

mouthfeel is slightly creamy, good medium carbonation

not bad for a cheaper beer
