Pours straw yellow with a thin white head that becomes a patch that covers most of the top.

The smell is of tonic water with a touch of grain - some "beer-like" quality, but not much.

The taste ia of some sweetness with just a hint of bland, washed-out hops. "Wet cardboard" in the very abrupt finish. Fizzy carbonation covers up any potential for flavor that might be there.

Drinkable as far as light and fizzy, bland "beer" goes I suppose. Personally, I think that this is not worth a monkey's butt.

I bought this beer for two reasons. It was relatively cheap and I liked the monkey on the label. Like everyone here, I like to give every beer a shot. The beer poured a pale yellow with little to no head. The smell was a bit skunky but tolerable. However, it was very refreshing. Maybe it was because it was a very hot day and it was the only beer I had.

A friend saw this at and picked up a case to share with my roommates. Great marketing, but lacking in beer. Very similar to Lion's Head Pilsner. Color is golden straw, with pure white head that stays around longer than most macros. Taste is crisp, yet corny. Not that bad, but i wouldnt buy a case for more than 12 bucks, more so when Lion's Head is only 11.

Contract breed by the Lion for Golden Beverage Company. "get off your butt and grab a monkey" is the slogan. Nose is very grassy and corn like, traditional non premium macro like. Color is light gold, head is small and disipates quickly. Crisp flavor at start then corny flavor creeps in but leaves a nice crisp finish. Aftertaste is short and crisp, very drinkable. To pay 21 dollars for a case is wrong, to pay 12 bucks a case would be ideal. This is a very drinkable adjunct lager, fire up the lawnmower.

Yes I fell victim to the hilarious looking bottle and grabbed a single. Plus it's brewed in Wilkes-Barre, right near my Alma Mater so I'll give it a whirl.

A - Completely transparent pale yellow. Tiny head of white fizz that disappears. Basically has the look of a macro lager.

S - Smell is of funky adjunct lager.

T - Tastes like a corn loaded, adjunct filled mess.

M - Extremely thin and watery.

D - No way.

This brew is simply awful. This is one of the few times I've bought a beer with no idea what it was. Oh well, the monkey picture is funny.

Pours a run of the mill looking crisp light gold colour with a head that leaves no markings on the glass.

The aroma is faintly sweet with some grain in the mix. Some grassy notes and possibly some corn as well.

The flavour is actually not bad at first sip, but each successive sip brings out the flaws in this one. Corn flavours become much more apparent here with the grass notes and grainy feel taking a definite back seat. Very much scatter shot. Mouthfeel is light bodied and just very bland.

This one is just not enjoyable. A bad marketing idea coupled with a beer that's equally ill-conceived. Don't bother.

Butt Monkey?!? WTF?!? Chimp Chiller? Wha? Also, my bottle indicated that it was made by the "Golden Beverage Co. Wilkes-Barre, PA". Okay, whose butt did this monkey fly out of?

It began by pouring out with a thick, bone-white head that quickly reduced to a light cover of wisps on the surface of the beer. Color was a really pale yellow with NE-quality clarity. The nose had a slight mustiness and a lightly malty aspect. It smelled like most mass-produced beers, setting me up for disappointment. The mouthfeel was really thin, bordering on watery. It had a light malty flavor on the tongue, but I was underimpressed. The finish had a slight bite to it, but overall, it reminded me of some sort of ethereal beer that was just too light and fluffy to remain earthbound. As a cream ale, I am still reaching for a Genny.

I was at a bar, asked if they had any non mass produced bottles, she offered the butt monkey.
drank it from the bottle, mild to no flavor. High carb, but really not as bad as i thought it would be. Good bottle to keep around for show and tell. what a funny label. I wouldn't pick up a case, but maybe a sixer to show friends for fun.

Courtesy of a friend, I recently had the chance to try this brew. It pours a very pale color with a slight yellow color and is completely clear. Unremarkable head. The aroma is slightly grainy, with a bit of grass behind it. It’s initially pretty unimpressive. The taste is better than expected, though. It’s a got a grain flavor, with a very slight touch of malt. There’s certainly not a lot to this beer, but it’s better than the usual macro. It’s smooth and clean, with a light body. This would never be a ‘go-to’ beer for me, but it’s not as disappointing as the first glimpse indicated.

after reading some of these reviews I was somewhat afraid to try this beer. Actually-its not bad. The appearance and smell are average-almost what you'd expect a typical run of the mill American lager or maybe a sub-par ale to smell and look like. It yellow with no head retention and nothing particular stands out in the smell. Its would the average person would say smells like "beer" maybe with a hint of sweet.

I was pleasantly suprised by the taste, mouthfeel and drinkability. The taste is very smooth and creamy. Its sweet but still yeasty. The aftertaste is very sweet and creamy. The mouthfeel is above average. Carbonation is very low but its very smooth. This is a very drinkable beer. Completely unoffensive and nothing bitter.

Appearance: clear yellow in color with no head, only a spotty surface foam. Numerous fast rising carbonation bubbles are visible. No lacing.

Smell: grass and corn and barely detectable by the nose. Basically no aroma.

Taste: thin malt levels, corn, honey, green grapes, grass, and no bitterness. Just an unpleasant mess here.

Mouthfeel: lightly crisp to start, dry and smooth at the finish. Light in body, thin in flavor. Clean aftertaste.

Drinkability: we’ll leave the Butt Monkey jokes out here – this beer is just not worth having. Pass this by if you see it on the shelves in your store.

12 oz. bottle given to me by a hardcore Bud drinker.
"Wow, it's one of those fancy beers you drink, Matt."
Usually the term "Butt Monkey" is not a good thing, so I had low expectations.

A: Pale, yellow, fizzy, highly carbonated. Virtually no head and even CSI would not be able to find any trace of lacing. So far, so bad.

S: Nothing here. Some metallic aroma, but that's all.

T: Not as bad as expected. Smooth and refreshing. No hop or malt taste, just a little bit of grain. Beats a BMC for me anyday.

M: Highly carbonated sting at first, thin watery, yet smooth. Not as "creamy" as expected.

D: Not that bad of a beer, good on a hot day to replace Corona or BMC. If I wasn't in the mood for a real beer, I could see myself drinking this at a picnic in 100° plus temps.

What can I say about the Butt Monkey. Not as bad as expected. Silly idea to get peoples interest. My friend, the Bud drinker, was sucked in. She said that it sucks compared to her Bud. That made me chuckle.

Right out of the bottle. Then poured into a pils glass. This is the last bottle from the case. Cool bottle with a chimp. Nice white head. Looks clear and very watery.

Aroma makes me sneeze uncontrolably. Smells like stale air and metal.

Tastes like extra light old malt and two day old unflavored popcorn.

Feels like water mixed with a beer that sat open overnight.

I managed to drink/give away an entire case.

Nothing fancy here. The bottle, with the picture of the chimp on it, is a definite conversation starer. Served a bit on the colder side, this isn't bad at all. BMC can't even compare. Not much hop or malt to speak of, but actually quite refreshing. I usually have this one with an order of wings at this one bar that we go to. It's light and doesn't fill me up and it's rather neutral taste goes with just about anything your eating. Not as grassy tasting as a Grolsh or Straub. I can't put my finger on it but I do enjoy this one. I have even got some of my BMC friends to try it. Since it's rather blah, they seem to like it.
A big abv Belgian, or a hoppy IPA would do in a BMC person. The chimp is a good beer to introduce to a BMC drinker and hopefully convert them.

Open the bottle with the right frame of mind..come on it has a smiling Chimp & BUTT MONKEY for a brand. Really though this isn't a bad brew for the price, at about 20/case this is DEFINATELY a Lion brewing product, had one had 'em all. Kind of like a not so malty 1857 & a not as hoppy Pocono Pale Ale. A real thirst quencher, very easy to drink and not a "great" brew but for the price not bad at all.

Appears : Light copper golden ale leaves bright white head behind, wow leaves a bright white head and thick white lacing.

Aroma: Wow, thick grainy sweetness leaves behind hop aromatics with ginger tones.

Taste: leaves behind caramel thickness that tastes oh so good that is coated with sugar coated sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Sugary medium bodied so nice not even carbonation:

Drinakbility: Very smooth butt monkey of a sorts.

Appearence: Pours a dull, clear yellow with a thin, foamy white head.

Smell: Very malty, with hardly any hop presence. Buttery (uh-oh), with a little but of earthy, floral aromas.

Taste and Mouthfeel: Light and refreshing, yet offering very little to the palate. Just a tiny bit of hop bitterness, and a very watered down mouthfeel. Goes down real easy, and it is thirst quenching. Almost tastes like a light lager...

Drinakbility and Overall: I think they might have wanted to brew a pale ale with this one, but I feel it's a cream ale all the way? Tried it yet? What do you think? Although this beer is far from anything special, it would be a good lawnmower beer on a hot day.
