hahaha, alright I admit I tried this beer because my friend got a case of it for dirt cheap, now I know why. No taste of hops for an ale, bland malts, watery finish, appearance of a bad urine sample. Looks like the bad monkey did something in the bottle it shouldn't have! Yuck! Only enjoyed half of the bottle. Very reminiscent of miller lite, never again.

12 oz bottle served into a pint glass at fridge temp.

A. Very pale, clear straw yellow body. A 2 finger white head, dissapears really quickly.

S. Smells of grains and cereal, with a slight bit of grass. Way in the back I get some floral hops.

T. Really earthy,Like just raw soaked barley. There is a off taste of sweetness kind of like a mild flat sprite.

M. Feel is not bad, light crisp well carbonated.

Overall I did not enjoy this beer, there is a underlying sweetness that does not go well.I would not drink this again.

About 4 years ago in a bar my girlfriend (now my wife) and I frequented often, the bartender offered a new beer from the cooler. If my recollection serves me correctly, it was humorously called Butt Monkey. The brew with the ridiculous name was made in the state of Pennsylvania so I was inclined to give it a go. Long story short, it tasted pretty much like your average adjunct lager, but maybe a tad bit more interesting.

Maybe the brewery realized that no one was interested in drinking a beer that didn't even have enough respect for itself to bear a name that avoided references to one's back end. Seeing the brew for the first time since that night four years ago just a few weeks prior to this writing at the distributor I work at on weekends, the brewery has evidently gone the safer route with the name of Bad Monkey.

It appears tarnished gold with a head that disappeared in less than a minute's time. It smells like an eviscerated pilsner: wet malts, mild grassy hops and nothing more.

In the mouth it unenthusiastically delivers a slightly tangy hops note upfront with an extremely mild malt bill. The presence of caramel malts is just barely in the room. A glimse of the fruity ale characteristic comes through in the feel and finish (probably the best feature to this beer).

Somewhere I heard or read that Bad Monkey is in the area of 6% ABV, but the grains required to make that a positive attribute clearly did not make the cut. What I mean to say is, this a concoction that's had 100% fermentables added to the recipe to both thin out the final product and raise the alcohol content.

enjoyed from bottle, my friend richard's parents brought him some from PA. He poured one to a glass and it had a regular golden bmc shade.

smells of malt, adjunct slight hop bitterness, clean and biscuity

taste is of sweet malt, slight adjuncty corn, nice medium carbonation, biscuity toffee, hops come in after the sweetness and give a nice slight bitterness. clean and refreshing, would be a great summer beer.

mouthfeel is slightly creamy, good medium carbonation

not bad for a cheaper beer

Basically this beer is absolutely nothing special at all. The beer is yellow and rather bland. Dull look white head and not much aroma. The beer itself is just not impressive to say the least. I can't believe it's as expensive as it is. The only flashy thing about this beer is the label. Total bummer of a beer.

For many years i have always been intrigued with monkeys. I find them funny so when i saw this case I put the hop-hog back on the shelf. This is the worst decision I have ever made. The cost of this case I think is around 30$ here in Pa. I would actually tell people about it but really this is all you need to know. It is bud light in a fancy bottle with a monkey. I got had but I will never buy this again. It is an alcoholic water. That is all.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a small head. Smell is of malts, a good bit sweet on the nose. Taste is not sweet, rather light and mild, a bit of malts, not a whole lot of flavor. Feels light in the mouth and has good drinkability. Overall this is a mediocre brew.

I had a difficult time finding this one on the site after picking it up on a whim from my local six pack shop. Never saw it before so I was intrigued. Apparently it's now called 'Bad Monkey' rather than 'Butt Monkey'. Very odd; the bottle looks exactly the same as the old one except the 'Butt' was replaced with 'Bad'. Guess I'll have to update that pick. Also I noticed that it's now brewed by the Golden Beverages Co. in Wilkes Barre, PA. In any case...

This illusive bugger pours a very clear, rather drab yellow with some sparse rising bubbles. The head was almost as illusive as beer because by the time I found it on the site the head was nowhere to be found. Egg-shell white and airy with little or no lace remaining.

Husky grain in the nose with some buttered cornbread and faint but floral hops. After the skepticism I felt post pour I'm feeling a little better considering the aroma was a pleasant surprise.

Sweet and malty up front with some very pleasant buttery biscuit notes. Mild but pronounced, spicy hops as well. I'm liking this one. A great representation of a cream ale IMO. From my college days I still have a fond recollection of Genesee Cream Ale and, dare I say, I prefer this selection over it.

The mouthfeel is fluffy upfront with a very fine textured carbonation that fades to distinct creamy feel. Really compliments the beer's mild but pleasing character.

I'd say the drinkabilty is high, even for the style. The fact that there's no standout flaws that some beers of the style display (i.e. - metallic or boozy) that hinder me from drinking several without it wearing on my palate, bodes well for this brew. Ignore the style and the tacky label; if you're in the mood for something easy drinking and well balanced, give this one a go.

Pours a very faint yellow color with a small head which gives way to some lacing. The aroma is of some citrus and sweet florals but the smell is very faint and almost not there. The taste is of sweet flavors, some fruit taste and no really hop presence, some adjunct bite at the end. The mouthfeel is light bodied and stingy. Drinkability wise it not offensive but nothing pleasurable to keep you coming back.

Hope I am putting this review in right place. The beer I sampled was Bad Monkey Chimp Chiller Ale which I'm guessing was a mandated name change. Drinkable yellow fizzy stuff with novelty marketing. Pour a nice high head that disappated with minor lacing. But really nothing special to say about this one.

Poured into a pint glass. I think this is the beer I am drinking. It says on the label, "BadMonkey, Chimp Chiller Ale, brewed and bottled by Golden Beverage Company, Wilkes Barre."

1.5 A: Shitty piss yellow color with a shitty white head.

2.0 S: Floral and citrus hops dominate the nose. There's also a healthy bit of pine in there as well. Lots of fruitiness with pineapple up front and hints of mango in the background.

1.0 T: Holy fuck this is bad. Seems like there is about 2% barley in this bitch. Tastes like adjuncts and nothing. This has me craving an Old German right now.

1.0 M: Super light body. Undercarbonated. Basically nothing is done right here.

1.0 D: Just about every other shitty beer out there is better than this one.

This is yet another example of a brewer trying to push a beer that is mediocre at best with "clever marketing". I am not sure that this beer is even fit to be served on a college beirut table. It tasted like a skunked genesee cream ale, which would have been a step up. I think the brewers need to go back to the drawing board. nice monkey though.

12oz bottle into pint glass

Crystal clear straw hue with a very thin fizzy white head.

Barely any aroma, just a little grain.

Very plain flavor, somewhat sweet, with some bready grain and just a touch of leafy hops. Light bodied, high carbonation.

A pretty bland beer, and actually very inoffensive. Very drinkable, if this is the type of beer you're looking for.

Poured a transparent straw yellow color with 1 finger head that dissolved into a thin layer. Has a little bit of lacing. Nearly constantly bubbling from the carbination. Initially had a yeasty smell upon opening and pouring but that passes on to a smell that reminds me of lemons. Taste is a bit watered down as compared to the other cream ales I have had. I think I can taste a tiny bit of trace malts, but that might be because I am fighting to get a taste out of this beer. The aftertaste is almost buttery and mouthfeel is quite light.

Simply horrible. In my many, many years of drinking even the worst of the worth corn-syrup crap beers, I've never encountered one so wretched. This pours a disgusting banana-y corn syrup light head-less macro swill, and though it does not list the ABV, doesn't even do you service of being reasonably alcoholic. At least, I drank 6 - in PA you HAVE to buy it by the case - and felt nothing in the slightest. Avoid at all costs!

Now labled as "Bad Monkey" after some backlash I suppose.

A. 12 oz bottle into a clean pint glass. Soapy head on a clear piss yellow body. Head recedes to a trace. No lacing.

S. Husky cream smell with perhaps a hint of hops. Smells and looks similar to a macro.

T. Pale malts are the predominant feature of this brew. Some light adjuncts are there but barely noticable. No discernable hop flavor, and very little bitterness to help balance the malt sweetnes. On par for the style, but very average.

M. Light and well carbonated. Sweet aftertaste doesn't linger too much.

D. Overall, a decent example of the style, but doesn't really leave much of an impression. Too sweet to really have more than one, unless you absolutely love cream ales.

A: Pours a light golden yellow hue with a medium white head. No lace.

S: Big on corn with hints of green grass.

T: Tons of corn with some very light hops. Honey sweetness in the finish.

M: Light in body with good carbonation.

D: It's drinkable, but not the most tasty.
