The fourth release in their Tadpole Series--a very small batch brewed in collaboration with one of their bartenders--Matcha Matcha uses matcha with Citra and Amarillo Hops.
Appearance is chilled split pea soup--opaque forest green with no head. This keg went much more slowly this Saturday than other Tadpole releases, as it's visual appearance is obviously a big turn off to some. But it really delivered on the advertised aspects.
The nose is all matcha. I'd like to say there are some other elements, but matcha dominates, which is surprising considering all the other potent ingredients in this brew.
Things get mixed up big time in the flavor. The heavy punch of bitter citrus from the hops co-mingles with the matcha tea in a way that produces a honeydew melon flavor, which is a very pleasant surprise.
Matcha Matcha is very dry, to the point of being one of the biggest palate wreckers I've ever had, not that it was intended. You really need to eat some bland fatty food before trying your next beer.
