Poured into a snifter on 7/12/09
A - Deep brown in color, very close to black. Poured a caramel colored head that soon became thin & wispy. There is some lacing.
S - Roasted malts make up the nose one this one. Coffee with some toffee notes brought out as it warmed.
T - Robust malty flavor in line with the nose. Roasted coffee taste works in conjunction with some hints of chocolate & a sweetness that seems to be toffee or maybe caramel. A pointed, yet hardly overwhelming, hop bite rounds out the malts.
M - Smooth & somewhat slick on the tongue. Carbonation is low. Hops allow for a touch of bitterness to linger.
D - I found this to be a rather enjoyable stout. Alcohol is hidden for the most part. I wouldn't be inclined to drink more than one at a time, but it certainly makes for a killer after work treat.
