No date on bottle but I think its alittle over a year old
Pours like motor oil, pitch black and thick. Head is an inch thick, dark chocolate in color. Head died somewhat prematurely and lacing was pretty thin.
First smell is of sweet, dark, bitter chocolate. Roasted malts and charred oak is next with hints of coffee and booze coming thru every so often. Classic desert beer aromas.
Taste is of sweet chocolate syrup mixed with burnt malts and some bitter coffee. Some dark fruits and hops are also in the mix but this beer is all about the sweetness.
Mouthfeel was good. Carbonation was lively and helped to alleviate the syrupy thickness of the beer. Head could have stayed longer but it's not too common for this style
Overall this beer is pretty good. Not sure how it compares fresh but aged for a year its smooth and highly drinkable for a imperial stout. Halfway through the bottle as the glass warmed, the hops came through more and cut into some of the sweetness, preventing palate fatigue. Not the best stout in the world but I'd gladly stock this in my fridge any day.
