650ml bottle. 2012 vintage.
It pours an inky black, one of the darkest beers I have seen. It has a creamy but foamy dark tan head that sticks for a good while.
The smell is really clean for a RIS. You can pick out the malts and hops and even yeast easily. It has nice fruity notes, some interesting hops that are a bit earthy and dank, and some creamy stout notes that include chocolate , cake, and caramel.
The mouthfeel is thick and smooth. Initial notes are bitter coffee and booze. There is a noticeable grainy malt kick as well. The alcohol mellows out after the first few sips and it is smooth bitter chocolatey goodness.
A fine brew.
