Black, tan espresso head. Copious lacing all around my goblet. Black oatmeal-like stout goodness. mmmm..mmmm how love Oatmeal Stouts!
A delicious aroma of musty oaty cocoa goodness is making its way to my nose. Bitter cocoa, espresso, phenols, deep spicy alcohol interplays a sweetish lactic almost Kahlua like aroma. Deep in there some spiced figs, deeply roasted malts, and an overall impressive amount of "oatiness" make for a deliciously good smelling brew.
This finger-lickin good. Exceptionally smooth, creamy, and seemingly light touch on the finish. Cocoa, figs, a twang of Phenolic "crush" , a spiced Meican cocoa like warmness. German oatmeal with cocoa,(Havaflucken) if you 've ever had it. As it comes up to temperature, 70% Cocoa comes out, warm oatmeal, what a great cold-night brew, or breakfast for that matter.
Mouthfeel is great. Boris is on the spicy, warm side. The flavor of the 9%ABV swaggers here in a big, quite frankly, enjoyable way. All heavy, rich oatmeally(is that a word?) goodness is balanced by the warming alcohol quality that makes for a good glass of oatmeal if you will.
I was expecting this to be extremely rich and filling, yet it suprisingly stayed on the medium bodied, warm and intriguing side. One of the main strong points of this brew is it's drinkability.
The bottom of my glass came all too soon, and I felt "crushed"...sorry. Great brew, look foward to future Hoppin Frog brews. Prost!
