big bottle into spaten becker
A - sure as hell pours out like a stout! big thick stream goes into the glass and barely makes any head, until the end of the pour when the head all foams up at once. the foam is about one finger thick and has a full tan colour. the body is pitch black and there is no light getting in anywhere. looks good, but the foam is a bit of a downer.
S - good coffee and roasted malt flavour. the most noticeable thing is the coffee along with the malts. there is also a bit of chocolate bitterness in there, mixing with a slight aromatic hop aroma. overall, it could be more potent.
T - its a good beer no doubt, but it is missing something. the initial taste is coffee, malts, and chocolate with a touch of fresh citrus or hebal like hops. there is a definitve lack of malt for my palate. this style, and especially a good example of this style, should really lay down the malt bomb. this one perhaps is a bit too hoppy, as there is certain unlikeable sourness to the brew, somehting like a lacto sour but not quite as potent. the finish is more coffee than before and a bit more citrusy spicy hops. the aftertaste is a good blend of coffee and malts.
MF&D - the feel for an ris is perfect, it is just as thick as it can be without infringing onto american double territory. this is a most good feelign brew, but the flavours could be honed a bit.
