Aroma: Very light caramel and orange zest aromatics. No esters or alcohol heat detected.
Appearance: Cloudy amber pour with "floaties". Kind of scary. Thick tan head that retains well. Effervescence noted in the glass.
Flavor: Strong malt backbone with crystal malt and caramel flavors abounding. Off-set by firm earthy hop bitterness. Pithy lemon and orange rind bitterness round it out. Balance is nearly even and dangerously close to malty. Finish is clean and dry.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. Carbonation bites the back of the palate. Slight alcohol heat.
Overall impression: Pretty heavy for an IPA but not quite American Barleywine either. Not sure I'll have this again but it was enjoyable once.
