Pours black with some tan lacing. Faint aromas of chocolate, malt, and dark fruits. Very smooth flavors of dark chocolate, burnt carmel, dark fruits (mainly cherries), and mild coffee. Mouth feel is creamy and chewy. Good amount of carbonation. Drinkability was really good. It's great to have this brewery make it to Chicagoland. Recommended!

22 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke, light nuttiness, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/herbal hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt and light hop notes; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly chalky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good robust porter. All around nice balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt and light hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

$ 8.99/bomber at Vintage Estates, Boardman, OH
Undated bottle at 45 degrees into snifter
Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate
Head small (2 cm), light brown fizzy, rapidly diminishing to partial 2mm ring and some random floating bubbles
Lacing poor – rare small island which usually slides back down to join the ring
Body dark brown with a little light passing at the nadir of the snifter
Flavor begins with faint roasted malt and bitter chocolate, rapidly fading to just a faint roasted malt bitterness; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium, creamy, lively carbonation

This is a porter, but not a particularly exciting one. The price point is rather high in relation to the quality – at $ 5.99/bomber I might be buying more, if I couldn’t find any Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald.

Dark chocolate with a reddish tint around the edges. Soft pour yields a fat sand color head.

Aroma of berries, malt and a hint of smoke. Not particularly strong scent.

Dry chocolate up front with a slight fruity sweetness toward the end.

Mouthfeel is a bit of a letdown. On the watery side. Expected more out of a beer with "silk" in the name.

Overall not bad but had higher hopes. Could have been more robust all around.
