Nice dark brew. A dark brown color with near opacity. The head never really formed. I have a thin cap settled on-top to appreciate.

Sultry dark cocoa notes with malt burliness and heavy roast. Has a little 'rugged' beneath the velvety decadence of the maltiness. Hints of coffee and berries. Refreshing nuances of dark fruit; refreshing, considering the volume of deep malt roast. There might be a nip of citrusy hops underneath it all, but it's hard to pick up on.

Minerally and earthy with a bit of grit, but it's just accented by a longly-kilned grain base with specialty malts adding dry bitterness and flavors of cocoa powder, oats, and blackberry. The hops almost have a rhubarb tanginess to them, but they're so far removed from the mainstay maltiness. Hints of espresso and chicory. Solid porter flavor.

The body is absolutely dreamy; silky with great body and a smooth wetness that gets patched up with some sporadic grainy mealiness. That's right, if you hold in on the tongue long enough, you can feel some texture. The levels of carbonation are low enough to enjoy the exquisite body and feel of this beer.

This is quite damn good. Not the cheapest bomber, at $8.99 a pop, but I didn't mind swinging it, after the fact. Not something I'll go to again anytime soon, but that's a barrier that the retail price put in place. The beer is certainly good enough to revisit, and again and again.

A: Dark black with no head. a light tan coats the edges of the glass.

S: ROAST! light semi sweet dark chocolate with coffee beans and brown sugar. A little touch of burnt toast.

T: Sweet milk chocolate with a very earthy hop. Vanilla, roast and big bold coffee. Sweet toffee finishes this bad boy off. A little touch of bitterness.

M: Surprisingly light, very smooth.

O: This is a very tastey beer. Nothing outstanding, just solid all around / 88

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle I found at Capone's in Norristown. Unfiltered with clumps of brown solids in bottom after pour. Near black color with substantial brown head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is mellow chocolate, rummy dark fruit and vanilla. Initial taste is dark fruit rum which is quickly overshadowed by sweet chocolate with coffee, caramel , vanilla and molasses notes. The hops are not apparent but rather bringing balance to the force of the malt in perfect balance. There is a long chocolate aftertaste that persists for a long time, seemingly forever. This is a delicious porter that does not assault the taste buds and is truly silky as the name implies.
