22oz bottle served in a snifter.
(~6oz worth)

pours an orange / medium amber tone while yielding a finger or so of a beige-like head. decent retention and lacing.

the usual suspects come to play in the nose. pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice. definitely more spice than pumpkin. a touch of booze if evident.

all of the above pull through in the flavor. and while it's tasty, it isn't the show-stopper than pumking or even dfh's punkin is. medium bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation.

overall it's a solid pumpkin ale, flavorful and enjoyable. however i wouldn't put it at the top of my list of favorite pumpkins. tried as part of a pumpkin ale tasting and it generally ranked among the middle of the pack, behind the likes of pumking, weyerbacher imperial pumpkin, and punkin.

Delivers the pumpkin flavor. But of spiciness, but not much. Barrel presence is there with a slight alcohol burn, but it’s very subtle. Not a bad pumpkin beer, but nothing worth going out of your way for.

I got both this beer and the barrel aged version of it in my latest Tavour box, just in time for Pumpkin Beer season as the nights are getting rapidly colder. I haven’t had the best luck with Hoppin’ Frog lately unfortunately, so I’m hoping this will be the one to turn it around. Let’s get into it

Pours a cloudy brownish orange with 2 fingers of soapy light beige head that fades to a cap and leaves minimal lacing

The nose seems to be quite spice driven, but there’s a lot of authentic pumpkin to back it up. I’m picking up on aromas of nutmeg, brown sugar, roasted pumpkin, allspice, sweet vanilla, dark bread, light earthy hops, and molasses

The real pumpkin notes unfortunately fade a bit in taste, leaving just a bit too much spice. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting nutmeg, dark bread, cinnamon, brown sugar, candied raisin, allspice, sweet vanilla, and molasses. The swallow brings notes of nutmeg, praline pecans, brown sugar, allspice, dark bread, raisin, light pumpkin, and cinnamon

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry but overly spiced

This one is just fine, but there are far better options for the style

Poured into an Elysian pumpkin snifter. Pours a slightly hazy, medium orange with a thin white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of pale malt, mild pumpkin and pumpkin pie spicing with only ginger standing out. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. There are two types of pumpkin beer, one with distinct pumpkin or at least squash flavor and one that is a blonde style ale with pumpkin pie spices. Happy to report that this is one of the former, and this is a nice one. The pumpkin character is clear and clean and spicing is present, but mellow and well balanced. A careful taste reveals some cinnamon and ginger, but everything is in harmony. This is a bit subdued, but close to the profile of my annual go-to pumpkin beer The Great Pumpkin by Elysian. Sadly after they sold the business, that one is only available in 12 bottle mixed packs, which are OK, but not tempting enough to just get a few bottles of the one I want. Although not as full flavored, this is nicely balanced and has the character I want. If this was a local brew, it could become my annual Halloween quaff.
What a great time of year: fresh hops are coming in and pumpkin beers. Ahhhh.

Pours pumpkin colored and slightly hazy. Aroma is whiskey barrel, pumpkin and allspice. Taste is pumpkin, though muted. The spice character disappears in taste and becomes quite watery. ABV is well controlled.

One thing I have learned that I don’t like in pumpkin beers - being overly spiced. Though this one is well balanced when it comes to the booze, both nose and tongue, it’s mouthfeel is overly astringent due to all the added spices. Taste-wise, it is pretty good, slightly muted but still tasty.

This one is pretty solid. Reminds me of Pump Action by 4 Noses but not as good in feel. The feel is...interesting its thick in a way but also feels kinda watery at first. Pretty good beer but Hoppin Frog is smoking crack charging these prices.

To form an opinion, two twelve ounce cans are emptied into a clear glass liter mug. What first found is a bright and somewhat translucent copper-amber. There's an ideal head on top, just slightly off-white. All those pumpkin pie spices smell like they're in there. There's clove, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and even a starchy presence presumed to be pumpkin, for the nose to take in. The taste is a bold version of what the nose got. This is spicier than most pies and even most other pumpkin beers. Yet, it is delivered in such a rich and smooth body, all that flavor goes across the palate and down enjoyably. Beautiful glass lacing bears witness to that body. The clove and ginger actually put up just a little heat. The relatively high ABV is overwhelmed by all there is to taste and makes the smoothness even more remarkable. Pumpkin spiced beers are a unique style and beer experience. It can be well understood why some drinkers want nothing to do with them. But, if it's to your taste, this is recommended as one of the best and certainly one of the richest tasting you'll find. More than most seasonal offerings, this style changes just about the most from year to year. That's the only caveat here.
Addendum: Returning to the point of how recipes change. Every review of this that rates it a 3 or less, was written more than ten years ago. Not to say those reviews were off, but to reinforce the argument that recipes change. Not to argue that these reviews are somehow invalid, but it would be an asset if Beer Advocate could isolate the most recent renditions of beers that change seasonally.

Bomber fromTavour. Pour is nothing special, medium amber, bubbly head quickly disappears. Aroma is full and mostly pumpkin, more of the fruit and less of the spice. Taste also reflects these qualities, with a bit more of the spice coming through, although not overwhelming, more of an accent. Nice feel, slick and oily. Finishes with a smidge of warmth.
