Served from a 22 oz bombe into a Duvel snifter.
A - pours very dark and inky with a one finger dark tan head
S - hints of roasted malt, chocolate and sweet malts with a slight fruity yeast note
T - initial slight sweetness that is quickly overpowered by roast, chocolate and coffee. A firm hop bitterness picks up mid palate and sticks around to compliment the long-lasting chocolate and roast profiles. A noticeable dark bittersweet chocolate profile hangs on the backmof my palate for at least a minute after each drink. Somewhat one dimensional of dark bittersweet chocolate and roast.
M - thick and slick, overly slick - slickness from the oats no doubt.
D - low, at 10.5 abv. The long lasting roast and dark chocolate notes also hinder the drinkability.
Overall, a very nice beer, toasty and bitter - my favorite types of RIS's. A reduction in the quantity of oats may reduce the overly slick mouthfeel. Hope they barrel age some of this like they do BORIS.
