Pours thick and black. Smallish head is very dark khaki looks dense. Head dissipates quickly leaving behind minimal lacing.

Huge roasted malt aroma with espresso and dark chocolate as well. Smoke, tobacco and licorice underneath. Some oak notes though this is not barrel aged.

Dark roasted malt leads the flavors. Bitter espresso, semi-sweet chocolate, anise, black licorice, smoke and charred bbq. Hops peek through a bit underneath but only briefly. Some earthy herbal notes.

This is a thick, sludgy beer. Oily on the tongue leaving a coating of semi-dry bitterness behind. Moderate+ carbonation.

This is a massive beer in aroma, flavor and feel. Could use a touch of sweetness to counteract the bitter notes, especially on the aftertaste. Overall though, an excellent brew.

Pours a pitch black color, with a small head, which leaves back a thin lacing.

Got a complex nose of toffee and coffee, wrapped up by bready malts and hints of tobacco, as well as a matured hoppy note. This comes along with a subtle infusion of dried blackberries, while the aromas in general are defined by a great balance between toffeeish fudge and charred coffee. Got a certain heat to it with glazed malts and a sweet peak of molasses.

While the beer drinks pleasantly smooth, it got a fitting, lively carbonation, which brings a decent hop dryness to the palate during the finish.
Begins with bready, coffee infused malts, which got a biscuity hint to them. This gets accompanied by both, soft cream and ashy tobacco. Then a sweet note of glazed toffee, fudge and molasses gets mixed with the bready flavors, while fluffy cream is still providing a smooth mouthfeel. The finish then is defined by coffee and warming caramel, standing in perfect balance to each other, while the beer seems to be quite aggressivly hopped, as a recognizable dryness appears from the coffee, providing a gentle bitterness. Concludes with an interessting aftertaste, formed my cream and earthy, slightly slick coffee.

A full dark head resides knightly atop a shiny black brew.

Aroma has a mix of sweet and dark chocolate followed by slight notes of smoke, char, plum and molasses.

A chunk of dark, bitter chocolate crashes across the tongue with bold notes of oak bark, fusel alcohol, plum, black cherry and resin

Bottle from 2012ish

A: poured into a snifter to a viscous and deep black topped by a dense two finger dark tan head that might as well be light brown. the head fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: smells of roasted malts, espresso, chocolate and charred wood
T: taste is big and roasty with chocolate covered espresso beans, burnt sugar and charred wood. slightly sweet and slight caramel flavors at times as well. swallow is more roasted malt, a little oxidation from age, coffee, dark chocolate and charred wood
M: big and silky on the palate with soft carbonation and a slightly drying finish.
O: this is a phenomenal beer with fantastic flavors and great complexity. the age on this bottle has done it well as the beer is smooth and very well rounded. A fantastic drinking experience to say the least.

Big, black and thick.

The viscosity is almost like some used motor oil. A small burnt sugar lacing stays with you for a couple of minutes, then dissipates leaving nothing creamy behind.

Smells of nice burnt malts. Coffee, caramel a hint of vanilla somewhere in the background are there.

The taste is amazing. Full body, heavy. Really nice malt forward feel. Sweet and complex. Good amount of alcohol. It's there just to let you know that you are going to feel good later on. Hops are present in the aftertaste.

Overall it's a nice experience. More like peace then war.
