22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2012 bottling. Pours fairly clear deep red amber color with a 1 finger foamy off white head with good retention, that reduces to ring of lace that lingers. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of caramel, raisin, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, bourbon, toast, light oak, and light herbal. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of malt, spices, and barrel notes. Taste of raisin, caramel, brown sugar, toast, cinnamon, bourbon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, light oak, and herbal. Lingering notes of dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, bourbon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance and complexity of malt/spice/barrel notes; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Christmas ale. Great balance and complexity of malt and spice flavors with moderate barrel character; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

22 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in an imperial pint glass

A - It is rust colored with amber highlights. A skim of tan head is all that graces the top.

S - It smell like the spices have faded and vanilla has replaced them. It definitely has a bourbon smell.

T - The barrel aging has definitely changed it. The spices are virtually gone. It almost tastes like a barrel aged wee heavy. There are lots of malt and bourbon.

M - Medium with low carbonation.

O - I think the regular Frosted Frog is good. I think the barrel aged is really good. I really like its similarities to a barrel aged wee heavy.

Appearance: brown in color with a 1/2" head that slowly falls to a spotty surface foam.

Smell: winter spices such as nutmeg and cinammon with some caramel tones come through to the nose.

Taste: caramel, nutmeg, ginger, cinammon, dark fruit sweetness, and moderate bitterness create a nice christmas ale.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Light crispness from start to finish.

Overall: a nice winter ale that hits the flavor profile of the season. Easy to drink and nicely refreshing.
