A: deep brown, almost black; less than a 1 finger tan head that dissipated quickly to a thin ring around the edge; little lacing;

S: deeply roasted malt; some bittersweet chocolate; a little smokiness;

T: upfront, it follows the nose; from mid-palate on some coffee kicks in and at the finish, it's all coffee; some alcohol sweetness from mid-palate through the finish; low bitterness;

M: full bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: more malt that hops; I prefer the opposite;

Pours a black body with one finger head and has some minor lace. The aroma is mix of roasted and bready malts with some earthy, slightly citric hops. Smooth, even a little creamy at times, well-balanced as a minor citric hop profile blends with roasted malts and little bit of sweet malts (I get hints of caramel and chocolate after some sips). More malty than hoppy but this is one of the few Black IPAs that I have found that make the hops noticeable AND greatly employed by the beer's malty profile (not a malt/hop mess).

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, citrus rind, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, pine, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/grassy hops and balanced roasted malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, citrus rind, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, floral, grass, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, citrus rind, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, pine, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and robustness of citrus/pine hops and roasted malt sweetness; with a great roasted malt/hop flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome imperial black IPA. All around great complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops and robust roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours an effervescent & chestnut tinged mahogany with a pinky of tan head. Stellar lacing 7 very nice head retention

S: Pineyness & woody hops, some peppery notes, a little roastyness

T: Carob, pineyness, dryness & a little grapefruit up front. Leafy hops mix with grapefruit pine, carob & faint roastyness as this warms, some grassy hops as well, faint figgy notes & a modicum of booze as well. There must be some chilles in here as well. Finishes piney, roasty, with a little chocolate, grapefruit & chille

MF: Chewy with slight carbonation, great balance, warming

I liked what they did here, loads of flavor & not a bad price for these guys. Drinks a little slow, due to heft & complexity; recommended
