Pours a slightly hazed ruddy crimson with a sliver of tan head. Minimal head retention & lacing, cleared up nicely

S: Smokeyness, peat, toffee & boozeyness

T: Peat, a touch of whisky, toffee, & a bit of honey, plus oaky dryness up front. Peatyness, dryness & toffee notes, plus honey & oak. Finishes dry, with toffee sweetness, boozeyness, & peatyness

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, some stickiness & some dryness & warming

Better than the plane Jane version, but still no Backwoods Bastard. I would buy this again, if this was on the shelves here ( it isn't). Give this a year or so & I bet its great

22 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a tulip glass

A - It pours rust colored with orange highlights. It is topped with one inch of tan head.

S - The toffee and vanilla are more apparent in the barrel aged version along with oak and bourbon.

T - The barrel aging really accents the caramel and vanilla flavors and smooths it out.

M - Full

O - I really like barrel aged wee heavies. The oak and bourbon flavors and aromas compliment this beer's characteristics. It is smooth and enjoyable.

Poured Barrel Aged Outta Kilter into a Belgian Tulip.

A - Pours a murky dark amber with a thin layer of white head.

S - Apricots, peach, plums. Some acidic aroma in there as well. Uh-oh. On further investigation, I'm getting a little barrel qualities with vanilla and char.

T - A little different for a scotch. I like it it but, it tastes close to an Old Ale. Lots of fruity flavors. A bit hot on the palate, with vanilla and more char on the aftertaste.

M - Good, medium carbonation with medium mouthfeel.

O - Just doesn't measure up to other quality barrel aged scotch ales. Cheers

I don't know if this bottle was compromised or if the method to produce this beer is just less than sound.

The liquid was of the proper rusty red hue, however, it was super cloudy. Foam did initially form with a strong pour, however, it quickly died out. From this appearance, I expected the beer to be infected, however, it didn't seem to be.

If I had to guess which kind of barrel this was aged in, I would guess that this was simply a Scotch-style ale with a bit of Irish Whiskey added to it. That's what it smelled like. That's what it tasted like. No bourbon flavor.

The mouthfeel was alright, but it also felt like the beer was breaking apart, if that makes sense.

Shared this bottle with a friend - really wasn't appealing at first - warming it up brought out the best of it but, in the end, it came across as a poor homebrew.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark ruby with a small off-white head that fades quickly and leaves decent retention and not much lacing. There's also some sediment floating around. The aromas are full of cherries, sweet caramel malts, whiskey, vanilla and toffee. The flavors are rich and syrupy. Tons of cherries. Lots of caramel. The malts shine. Subtle hints of toffee and cocoa. Some butterscotch in the mix. Dark fruits are there. The whiskey barrels really come through, but are far from overwhelming. There's a great balance. Alcohol goes unnoticed and it's extremely easy to drink. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's creamy, but slick. This is a fun beer and it's dangerously drinkable.

Very good beer. I'm pretty sure there's at least a year on this bottle. The aging hasn't hurt this beer at all. Recommended.
