22oz bomber poured into a snifter. Not bottled on date, red cap.

A- Pours a clear copper/ red color with a small amount of off-white head.

S- Sweet caramel malts dominate the smell for me, some alcohol is noted on the aroma also, but mostly hidden by the malts.

T- Starts off slightly sweet with the caramel malts coming through. After the initial sip I begin to notice the whiskey barrel aging, with slight oak and whiskey notes.

M- Medium bodied, medium carbonation, you notice the alcohol but not a very hot drinking beer.

This is a nice beer but I would have preferred more of the BA notes to shine through. The price point is a bit high too, as are most Hoppin Frog beers.

$ 13.69/bomber at Vintage Estates, Boardman, OH
Undated bomber at 45 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of malt, caramel, and whiskey
Head small (2 cm), off white, fizzy, rapidly diminishing to nothing
Lacing – none
Body medium amber, slight chill haze
Flavor of whiskey, mostly bourbon and vanillin, slightly sweet; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium to full, creamy, soft carbonation

A nice variation on the typical Scotch ale – the alcohol is well hidden and it’s not annoyingly sweet. The flavor is good, the palate pleasing. The only gripe I have is the absence of any head or lacing.

I had a wee heavy tasting a few months back and we skipped on this one because we had too many. Too bad we did as this one would of held up with the best of em.

22oz bottle into taster glass...

Cloudy red amber in color, ruby edges and semi transparent. nice set of bubbles that were constantly springing to the top. 1/4 inch antique white head that went away fairly quickly and left a small ring and thin skin atop. Overall not too happy with the look.

Smell was of whiskey barrels with a malt backing. A little wood and burnt caremel with some dark stoned fruit in the mix.

Whiskey foward with the base wee heavy ever so lightly showing its face. Not overpowering whiskey but very noticeable. Slight wood, a touch of vanilla, burnt sugar and caramel, bready malt.

Smooth as butter. By far the best aspect of this beer is the feel. Medium thick bit feels thin, a little heavy but not stout heavy. Light carbonation smooth whiskey finish.

A delight. I finished the 22 oz bottle myself. One of, if not the only wee heavy at sub 9% I could say that about. 12 oz is usually enjoyable but this was great the whole way thru.

22 oz bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a layer. It is a murky amber brown with no vision of anything.

Smell: Caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, and a little booze.

Taste: Same as above. Malty deliciousness.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, malty, boozy, silky, low carbonation, and full bodied.

Overall: Barrel aged scotch ale. Yes please. Very enjoyable, tasty, and delicious.
