Poured into a balloon glass.

Look: Black as espresso beans with a mocha colored head that calms to a wisp with light watery lacing.

Aroma: Dark roasted malts, coffee grounds, dark chocolate.

Taste: Much like the aroma, bitter coffee and dark chocolate dominate. A nice roasted body with a tang of hops in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Fairly dry.

Overall: A lot of great coffee flavors in this, another great beer from Hoppin' Frog.

A - Dark muddy brown with caramel and ruby highlights. Thin off-white head settles into a thick halo with great retention, but poor lace.

S - Dry bitter chocolate, chipotle, dry coffee grinds, toasted bread crumbs.

T - Dry, smooth and well integrated. Medium roast coffee, toasted rye brad, dusty char, cocoa powder, and a touch of caramel sweetness. Mineral finish.

M - Medium-light body. Great finish: dry with nice legs.

O - Smooth, fantastic, roasty coffee flavor.

Dark black, completely opaque. Thin sand colored head.

Smells like my great grandma's kitchen - cheap, strong coffee lingering over bread and a host of other unidentifiable scents. I guess that's a compliment.

Taste of roasted malt with notes of vanilla and berry. Black coffee aftertaste.

Quite smooth, though a little watery.

Coffee is present in the scent and taste but not particularly strong. More like a porter with coffee notes rather than a "coffee porter." I strongly prefer this to the regular silk porter. More intricate tastes and lives up to the silk in the name better.

Pours black with light tan head.

Smell is toasted malts and coffee. Roasted nuts.

Taste is dark toasted malts. Bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Moderate bitterness late.

Mouthfeel is light bodied. Light carbonation.

Overall this is good. I am always dissappointed with the thinness of porters but this was good for the style.

I was orinally draw to this beer by the claim of it being a coffee porter. I've had plenty of stouts brewed with coffee, but its not every day you find a porter. I've had many of Hoppin Frogs other offerings and have never been disappointed.

This one is no different. A very dark porter when poured. You then get blasted with coffee smell. The same goes for the first taste. Coffee is squarely in the forefront of this brew. The 'Cafe' taste fades and goes on to a familiar Porter malty taste.

This one definitely ranks up there. My wife (who doesn't drink too regularly) actually liked it enough she ordered her own. She loves the coffee tastes but a Stout is usually just too heavy for her. She tasted this and said it was just right for her with it being a bit lighter as a Porter.
