22 oz. bottle poured into a NB snifter.

A - Pours a shiny oil-black into the glass. There's no head to speak of, just a thin milk chocolate sheen of very tiny bubbles that quickly disappears. Held to a full spectrum light, the beer is black and solid, with dark khaki lace on the sides of the glass when it's tipped. There's a wisp of an island in the center that's being fed from bottom of the glass.

S - Amaretto with dark black cherry and plum, and as it warms, hints of vanilla. Chocolate malted balls with under-currents of espresso. Hints of alcohol, but overall, the nose is quite soft.

T - Dark fruits backed by very dark but not too bitter chocolate. Rich, medium-roasted malts with cocoa powder. Really dark grained bread made with molasses. Not a trace of the ABV. Soft, subdued notes of dark milk chocolate dominate the front end of the finish, followed by a slide into oat grains on the fade out.

M - Smooth across the tongue, but still fizzy in the mouth. Moderate carbonation. Solid, tight body, but not at all heavy. Components are completely integrated, as if this beer was just made in a blender. Rich and elegant in the mouth. Finish lingers and is rather dry.

O - With the name Cleveland Crusher, I expected to find a tiger in the tank; instead, I found a purring pussy cat. Silky smooth and rich, this beer's taste profile is so thoroughly blended it risks seeming unfocused and vague. I like the effect oatmeal has on big, robust stouts, but it typically is used just to sand down the rough spots. In this beer, it becomes a velvet glove. To be sure, the ingredients are of exceptional quality, and on that basis alone it deserves a taste if you like imperial stouts smoothed by oatmeal.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in late 2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark brown head with solid retention, that reduces to a spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, dark bread, toast, coffee, light char, oats, light molasses, light raisin, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, dark bread, cocoa, toast, roasted malt, biscuit, molasses, coffee, light char, oats, light raisin, and roasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, dark bread, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, molasses, coffee, oats, light raisin, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity of big dark/roasted malt flavors; with nice roast/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial stout. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Serving Type - 22oz bottle

Appearance - Black as night, thick as oil. 1/2 inch foamy head, tons of lacing.

Smell - Smokey malts, grapes, chocolate, cocoa, coffee. Almost has a sugary fruity note like big league chew bubblegum.

Taste - First sip is rather sweet. Lots of chocolate, roasty malts and cocoa, along with a creamy finish. Coffee is present but not overly as strong as I expected. Some sweet fruits like grapes and plums add some flavor. Alcohol is very masked but does add a little warmth at the finish.

Mouthfeel - Tongue gets malts, chocolate and coffee immediately. Palate really gets the same with a added sweet fruit flavor. Aftertaste is malty, chocolate and a little sweet.

Overall - A nice smooth, malty stout. Very easy to drink and enjoy. Not as big and coffee strong as boris and doris but still, nice and enjoyable. As always worth a drink from a world class brewery.
