Clear amber pour with a dash of garnet. Outstanding head volume, world class lacing and retention.

Outstanding nose of pineapple, orange and mango over biscuit with a touch of caramel and a subtle spicy spruce.

Light body with a smooth texture. Slightly below normal carbonation level with a hint of effervescence in the middle and a stronger finish.

Outstanding flavor profile that is well balanced, complex and laid back a bit in intensity. It begins with a wave of citrus and tropical hop flavor (orange, mango and a hint of pineapple) that is over a subtle bready biscuit sweetness. The middle yields a bit of pine and spicy spruce aspects over a somewhat light moderate bitterness. The bitterness is rind and pine based. The finish is a slow fade of orange rind that is slightly dry. Alcohol remains completely covered.

The Gangster Frog was good. It poured a clear copper with white head and spotty lace. The scent was bitter and citrus. The taste was fairly even but had enough bitterness to make it an ipa. There was some citrus and pine. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this was quite nice.

Undated bottle at 42 degrees into snifter
$ 9.99/shelf temperature bomber at Giant Eagle, Hermitage, PA
Aroma too weak to detect
Head small (two cm, aggressive pour), white, frothy, diminishing to two mm ring and partial layer
Lacing excellent – complete rings of tiny bubbled curtains
Body medium orange, chill haze, effervescent
Flavor weak, bordering on dank but still some citrus; no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light to medium, slightly oily, lively carbonation

Never even heard of this beer or brewery until last week when I started looking at the 24 0zs my fav craft beer store seS and my girlfriend made me buy this because she liked the bottle despite me not liking IPAs. Looks and smells great. Very hoppy taste with out that bitter IPA aftertaste. Excellent in your face beer.

Fresh 22oz. bomber bottle received as trade extra poured into a snifter tasting glass.

A= Amber, appears quite clear. Nice thick head that is just barely tan/off-white. Head settles into nice ring around the glass and lacing clings to the glass.

S= Citrus and dank resinous hops, some malty caramel.

T= Very tasty, lots of citrus and some tropical fruits. Melon and grapefruit seem most obvious, with mango as well. Get an herbal flavor as well. Some malt sweetness in the form of caramel.

M=Medium body and moderate carbonation.

O= Very good, Gets good reviews, but still was pleasantly surprised. Shared with another IPA lover and they agreed that it was great and deserving of high regards.

Pours into an imperial nonic a menacing looking hazed burnt orange with a half finger clingy white head that settles into a soaply-like mass.Sweet citrusy hops in the nose, not much bitternes detected,a touch of caramel/dough as well.Sweetness from the hops along with sugary notes makes it sweet up front but with a bit of grapefruit rind and pine to dry it up a little in the finish,as I drink more I get a light bread dough toast in the finish as well. It's a sticky hop bomb if just a tad drier this would be on par with the best,as is it's still very good.

22 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a tulip glass

It pours amber in color with golden highlights. It is capped with two inches of tan head.

I get some aromas of citrus, some dank, wet hops, and caramel malt.

The taste seems to lean toward the darker side of hops. The citrus is in the background. I noticed some malt at first, but it is sent to the back as the hop flavors coat my palate.

Medium mouthfeel

I wasn't overly impressed at first, but it grew on me. I am always leery of purchasing Hoppin' Frog IPA's because they tend to sit on shelves. I got this one at a place that turns product over in a timely manner. I like this IPA, but Ohio has so many to choose from at better price points that I doubt this makes it into my rotation.

Pours a nice Amber color. Very clear. Smells of sweet malt and pineapple. A little hint of mango as well. Taste is the same. Nice pineapple flavor coming through but it's not as sweet as it smells. Well balanced with a bitter finish. Juicy flavors with a smooth finish. The feel is very smooth. Perfect amount of carbonation.

Definitely would buy this one again.

Very citrusy (is that a word) to taste, thin, light, and likely refreshing in hot weather. Not as hoppy as the brewer's name might suggest. I will look forward to having this again on a steamy day in summertime. Thumbs up.

Alright, long story short; I love the look of this, very light orange/amber but hazy. I looove the aroma, big citrus whiff, mostly orange and lemon with perhaps a hint of skunky grassiness.

Tastewise, this is delicious. Smooth green cantaloupe and ripe cantaloupe shortly after with green tea and other herbal notes creating a briefly lingering grass-like bitterness on the finish. Yes, there are some malts. No, they won't turn most hopheads off. This is expectionally well balanced, and I especially say so because those more earthy, melon-y, grass-astringency kind of tastes are difficult to "get right" in my opinion.

Feeeel? This beer makes me feel awesome.
The mouthfeel is medium-heavy with a good amount of carbonation, which makes the finish more refreshing than it might be otherwise, with so many herbal, bitter flavors.

Overall, go get some if it's fresh. Marionette dangle. Exit stage right.

Poured into a Haw River Farmhouse Ales teku glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Sudsy semi-resilient lacing.

S- Semi-pungent hop aroma brings the usual notes of citrus and grass.

T- Nice tang right off the bat with notes of peach, mango and tangerine. Perfect amount of malt sweetness. So easy to drink as the ABV is well-masked. Assertive yet restrained bitterness.

M- Somewhat sharp with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- This IPA hits all the tropical fruit notes so well and leaves me wanting more and more sips. If this were in a more affordable format, I'd buy it all the time when fresh.

Glowing orange haze under a slim head of milky bubbles. Deeply hoppy aroma, like rubbing a bunch of dry cones in your hands. Green, sticky, resinous...pulpy grapefruit, tangerine, grassy spice, and pine sap. Some crackers and wort underneath. Flavor is super fresh, bright, and zesty hops with nary a malt to be found. Big grapefruit and lemon upfront, with some green pine, melon, and tea in the middle and finishing grassy, herbal, and minty. Solid medium body with a good level of bitterness. A little heat, but otherwise very drinkable, assuming you can handle the hops. Damn good stuff.

Aroma is pine and very bitter/grassy hops. The flavor is citrus, grapefruit, malts, a hint of nuttiness and really grassy/bitter hops in the finish. IPAs are meant to be bitter, this one is.

This was good. Had it on draft (snifter - style), and everything was looking up. Gorgeous look and nice clean aromas... took a little funny turn on the taste, with the funny wet cardboard note going on... otherwise everything was in place. Prefer White Rajah when it comes to OH IPAs!

Tap at the BORIS Van Wink Release. Pour is very hazed deep amber with an off white head. Nose is huge citrus blast, orange peel and hints of grapefruit with a small touch of doughy malt underneath. Taste follows suit on hops, huge hop explosion. Tons if juicy orange citrus with some grapefruit notes and bitterness. Notes of dough malt and some cereal grains. Lighter body with nice carbonation and a pillowy feel. Bitterness lingers through the finish.

22oz bottle poured into snifter

A: very little head a light amber color slightly hazy

S: this beers smells toffee and like cantaloupe and overripe fruit

T: Cantaloupe cantaloupe cantaloupe very melon tasting and very different slightly bitter on the finish do not know how old this beer is but it's very melon tasting

M: medium feel

O: I was looking for a more citrus tropical fruit explosion so I'm a little blind sided by it being pure melon. That being said it's pretty damn good, I didn't know though this was retired but it's worth looking for if they still brew it.

Look: A hazy golden amber with a nice thick and clingy head. Lots of carbonation.

Smell: Pungent citrus and floral notes as I popped the cap. In the glass a really nice bouquet of citrus fruits and floral notes meld together to make one tasty smelling IPA. Getting lots of nectarine, orange, and tangerine, slightly floral and a big simcoe punch. Malt is there but only to serve as a table setter for the hop feast to come.

Taste: a bit maltier then I imagined on the attack but that fades in to a nice hop attack that mounts slowly but is definitely front and center when it gets there. Once more huge fruity notes like biting into a fresh nectarine! The finish is a bit bitter and earthy but enjoyably so and the fresh citrus sits and buzzes the tongue long after! Very tasty IPA.

Mouthfeel: This beer is medium bodied with lots of nice carbonation and just the slightest smidge of booze. The only real flaw is it's perhaps a bit too full bodied for a single IPA but that is some serious nit picking and this beer more then makes up for it.

Overall: One fantastic IPA. Really impressive offering that is good balanced and the hop billet makes one seriously enjoyable citrus center IPA. Would definitely seek it out again and really impressed especially it's not attached to any coast.

The beer has a big herbal, woodsy, grassy hop nose with some resin and an initial touch of sulfur to it that dissipates quickly.
Pours hazy gold amber with a lightly amber tinted 2” off-white finely bubbled foam cap.
Fruit and melon with a hint of peach begin the palate with light caramel, rich malt flavors, and a mellow rounded bitterness on the finish with a touch of herbal astringency. Well balanced between the bitterness and the malt topped with a lot of hop flavor.
Very creamy with a medium full body.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter at around 45°F

Appearance (4.5): Orange golden color with a two finger off white head

Smell (4.25): Tropical notes with undertones of citrus and pine. Perhaps some sweet malt in there as well.

Taste (4.25): Mango is prominent upfront with grapefruit, mandarin oranges, light spices, etc. playing minor roles. Quite light tasting overall however

Mouthfeel (4): Light medium body; Low on bitterness and maybe needs a bit more carbonation. Very smooth though

Overall (4.25): This reminds me a lot of LT Limbo. Seems like it has the same hop varieties. It's a good IPA, but nothing really extraordinary. The flavor and mouthfeel seems somewhat subdued than I would prefer. Very drinkable and smooth though. I prefer the likes of Head Hunter over this by miles, and probably would never get this agaon considering how many great beers are available to me. Ive had better IPAs at half the price. The bomber was $9.99 rather than the $7.99 others claim they purchased it for, which is kind of disappointing. It is a solid IPA, however, and can't knock it too much other than the price tag.

On tap at the Hoppin' Frog tasting room.

Slightly hazy, honey-orange elixir, thick 1.5 finger head of tiny, packed, white bubbles remain throughout. Copious lacing.

Thick mango, orange, earth and pine up front. Minimal biscuit malt.

The citrus predominates with the juicy mango/citrus throughout and a smooth floral aftertaste.

Medium body, perfectly carbonated.

My favorite HF IPA. Heavy on the hops, nice complex aroma, with the malt smoothing out the edges but kept well in the background.

HAPPY IPA DAY!

Gangsta Frog IPA - Hoppin' Frog
American IPA
7.5% ABV
55 IBU

APPEARANCE: Pours a hazy, sediment filled golden raw honey color. Loose soapy egg shell colored head that stuck around just long enough for the picture before quickly dissipating. The appearance is nice looking bit nothing out of the ordinary.

AROMA: Wild flowers blowing in the wind, soft perfume fragrance. Followed by inviting citrus hops with hints of fresh lemons and odoriferous mango. Slight sweet cookie, bready malts with a back end of orange spice hot tea. The nose is really quite amazing.

TASTE: As if I'm sitting at a table drinking orange spice tea, eating sugar cookies with a piece of candied orange on top. Malt forward but not over done, hops balance out nicely with a enjoyable bitterness. More of the mango I got on the nose with additional tropical fruits swirling around.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body until the bottom half of the glass when the sediment was noticeably bring the body to a medium plus. Light moderate carbination, slightly soft and creamy with an enjoyable mellow finish.

OVERALL: First ipa by hoppin' frog. It was all around very enjoyable and easy to drink. Definitely not a palate wrecker which is actually a nice change in pace. I think the nose on this beer was the highlight for me. Great job Hoppin' Frog!

RATING: 4.3/5 Zombie Heads!

Fresh bottle (no date?) from Otto's on Oakland.

Appearance: Hazy yellow. First glass poured much more clear, plenty of sediment in second glass. Reminiscent of Crooked Tree, more sediment than I was expecting. Decent 2 finger white head. Good lacing. Nothing poetic about this beer's appearance- I think this is going to be a working man's IPA.

Smell: PDT: Pretty damn tantalizing. Big fruity hop aroma, up there with pseudoSue & ZD for aromatics in a Midwestern APA/IPA. Smells a lot like Alpine Duet, which is one of the best-smelling IPA's in the world, IMO.

Taste: With an aroma like that, taste was going to be a let-down no matter what. Where some beers (the aforementioned pseudo & Duet being two of them) allow the taste to amplify the aroma, Gangster Frog fights it a bit. Maybe the bittering hops come through a bit more harshly.
It's up there with (again) Crooked Tree and Finestkind, possibly a bit better than either of those, but also a bit more expensive.

Mouthfeel: Does a good job of staying light on the palate so you always want more. No complaints here.

Overall: Definitely one of the 10-15 IPA's I've had from East of the Mississippi (that doesn't include TG for you geographically challenged BA's). Maybe makes it into my top 25 USA IPA's, but I haven't actually written that list yet. If you're a fan of citrus-y IPA's with a bit of sediment and a solid malt body, don't pass this one up.

Bomber > Tulip Glass

A - Cloudy gold two fingers foamy fluffy white head, medium spotty lacing
S - Lemon, Lime, dank grassy pine and hop resin, pineapple, nice floral notes, sweet malt.
T - The malt is a little much in this one toward the end, but there's lots of lime, some nice grape flavors too, pineapple, spicy hop resin, floral.
M - Medium bitterness, not too chewy, well balanced.
O - Very good IPA, I think its a little overrated though, but i like the variety of different aromas and flavors in this one.
